A Serving . ( Closed )
WHO: Gawain & Ritsuka
WHEN: The Last day of Spring break
WHAT: Gawain gives his item to Ritsuka and they have a chat.
[ Memories of the last war he had been in have come to settle upon his mind clearly. What he makes of it is something that he will take as a notion needing to be learned, failure was not an option and with resentment of himself. Gawain addresses Ritsuka with a firm line of vindication with harsh expectations of himself. A Knight who tasks his attention to being cordial and around the other rather regularly. Perhaps, too much. As Gawain would be found near and always about the other. With a resolved face and a puppy dog-like smile the moment she would come out from wherever it were, she tided herself accordingly.
This would inevitably cause some form of question toward the Master. In present though Gawain felt it necessary, despite his interactions with the other members of the School. Trapped in this strange situation as himself, that ultimately he were not anything like them. For him even if these special friendships were earned and gained. Gawain ultimately would cast them aside if Ritsuka asked him to do so. Not that he knew or felt the woman were one to do as much, as they spoke. Gawian was certain that the individual he called now his Master. Albeit a Magus that were ordinary, had a strong heart. Potentially taxed by the stresses the world pushed against them. Meaning, the way that Gawain felt Ritsuka was like - less akin to Leo who needed to learn what it would mean to lose. More, akin to a woman who needed to know everything would be okay.
And although general, were that phrase as he glances along the trembling hands that were coarse and unlike hands suited for a woman ( Gawain's opinion ). The foundation of it still stayed the same in his mind, so he resigned himself to whatever whim Ritsuka would have of him. Accepted his failure in the direction of Leo and that perhaps, ultimately. Gawain was given another chance to stand beside someone with instruct direction, who may be no King or Queen. Yet someone, he felt he could trust to always do the right thing.
So why did he need this Lighter? It was just before Ritsuka would head to sleep for the night, he adjusts within room 2-A. Shuffling the lighter out of the pocket and handing it over to his Master. By name, not by contract. ]
I would see to it that you are given this, as it has no use to me. Master, I found this within the Library beside the Instant Mashed Potatoes within a book. It was strange, none-the-less. It’s peculiarity at the time, made me decide to take it along with me. As I am here to serve, this will find more use in your hands thand of mine.

[Ritsuka has been... concerned about Gawain's behavior for some time. Maybe it's just because the servants in Chaldea had way more people like them to hang with, but they usually did things other than follow Ritsuka around like a lost puppy. (With a few exceptions. Looking at you, Kiyohime, Serenity.)
She knows it's probably a habit left over from the Moon Cell Holy Grail War, which makes sense since, you know, most people don't have more than one Servant. But still, she feels bad that he does basically nothing but stand guard over her.]
I-
You're not going to take no for an answer, are you? [Ritsuka smiles lopsidedly, then sighs and begins digging around in a desk.]
Fine, but only if you take this in return. [She holds out something, hilt first.
Wait, hilt?
It's... a sword. Nothing exceptional—the metal quality is obviously questionable and the craft is amateur—but it's dense enough to hold up to a beating, and sharp enough to actually cut. There isn't a proper crossguard so it looks more like a gladius than anything, and the hilt is wrapped tight in cotton cloth from the crafts room, but it's something.]
It's no Excalibur Galantine, but it's the best I can do with, like. No experience other than watching Gramps in Shimousa, ha. Hopefully it'll at least be good enough for you to use, though.
...we really need to talk, though.

With the sword placed within his hand and rightfully at his side for the time being. It is as she said, no Excalibur Galatine. It is still something and he will make certain to use it in the future. ]
Whatever is the issue, Master?
[ Indeed, as circumstances were different. The Knight is unaware of their past relationship(s) from her own universe. That his world contended with the rule of a singular servant per Master. That he is of their familiar, and no one else's. He felt no wrong in following the other rather regularly, his life was hers to do with it as she saw fit. Guidance, and company or just a general servant. However, Ritsuka was used to the freedom - albeit with some exceptions, that Chaldea provided. Yes I am looking at you Minamoto no Raikou. Having a servant with Gawain's capacity over her, seemed to bring her discomfort. Gawain respectively would and here on out, understand if there needed a lengthier leash to be made. So he lets her speak her mind. ]

[And also the most terrifying thing about him. Ritsuka had to learn how to get over what different incarnations of her Servants did the moment she summoned Artoria Alter to Chaldea, but it's still hard not to think about the gates of Camelot sometimes when she looks at his face.]
But you can't devote your whole life here to me. You're your own person, you know? Which I know is a hard thing for a lot of Servants to swallow and believe me I have heard literally every other argument you could make to the contrary about a half dozen times already, so don't even try, [triple] buster.
I know the whole situation here is really screwy, but... you only have so much time in a manifestation, right? So you should enjoy some of it without being constantly attached to my hip. And other people need your help, too. Not just me.
LOL the triple buster joke chef kiss
I see, am I to understand you are requesting that I enjoy my freedom more and help others with their ordeals? [ The Knight affirms that he could enjoy his life within these halls rather casually, but it wasn't as if he wouldn't take his status as servant seriously either. Merely that, Ritsuka before him were to give him another order - more or less. To live out more freely and affirm that the halls of this school were as much for him to roam as he. ]

That's exactly what I'm saying.
You can be really thick sometimes, you know.
[Knights.]

[Ritsuka claps him on the shoulder, looking him dead in the same eyes that have the capacity to kill hundreds of innocent people.
That was then. This is now.
But that doesn't change that's who he is.]
I am very, very good at running away.

[Ritsuka's smile is caught between bemused and genuinely endeared.]
What I meant is that I can take care of myself for at least long enough for you to follow my panicked yelling back to where I need help.

You have no idea how much that means to me.
[Gawain's devotion is one of the greatest shields Ritsuka could have in Yogen.
Barring Mash's Around Round Shield.
God, she misses Mash.]

Then it turned out that Servants existed, and she was a vessel for a Shielder, who turned out to be Galahad although I only learned that waaaaay later, and we had to recruit a bunch of Servants and keep hopping through time because it turned out a Beast set literally all of human history on fire and we had to fix it. I met you, Tristan, two versions of Lancelot, four separate incarnations of Artoria, and Agravain in passing—although, uh, I never contracted with him.
We eventually saved the world, and that was supposed to be the end of it, and...
...then it ended again a year later.

[Ritsuka takes a deep breath, running a hand through her hair.]
The grail was apparently supposed to go to some crusaders so they could actually win the crusades, but things were wildly off the rails by the time we got there.
Primarily because of your king.

...
Another part is that I saw your order the slaughter of hundreds refugees at the gates of the new Camelot she built.
[Ritsuka rubs her shoulder, sighing.]
Well, not you you. You're Gawain. He was Gawain. But you're different. I've worked with enough Servants who tried to kill me in different incarnations. I know that.
And the weird thing is, seeing you unflinchingly tell the Enforcement Knights to kill all those poor people...
It makes me confident that, no matter what, you're going to protect me while I'm here.
