[ faust lets the sun warm his face for a few moments, lungs aching, before he tries sitting up, spitting a few times to get the taste of salt out of his mouth. the blue sky above seems a little surreal, like a halo around everything, but maybe that's just the salt still stinging his eyes.

his hand throbs, and ah. the mirror. faust carefully uncurls his fingers from the edges of the glass, tipping it gently into his lap, before he curls them tightly again, cradling his hand to his chest. better to stop the bleeding that way, than endure the salt from ripping any fabric free. maybe there are other pieces out there. certainly, that'd be nice, but...for now, this is a small comfort. carefully he shimmies out of his robes and wraps up the piece of his mirror in the heavy, black fabric, before he finally feels like he has enough energy to stand.

he's wearing a school uniform under his robes, so shut up.

on wobbly legs, he makes his way out of the pool building and into the sunlight, squinting a little at the brightness. ]

ii. gorintoh no
[ faust, cleaned up and significantly less water-logged, finds himself up on the fourth floor, squatting in front of the gorinto lined up neatly in front of the window. his arms are wrapped tightly around his knees. defensive. or maybe protective. he misses his cloak and its bulk.

there's something searching in his gaze, looking for something (someone?) that isn't there. but of course he doesn't find what he's looking for. they're rocks. just rocks. he leaves them be and stands stiffly, stretching a little before he turns to head back down when he catches sight of you. ]

Oh. Hello. Am I in the way?

iii. cats cats cats
[ finally, with a little rest and a quick shower, faust is feeling a little more like himself and a little less like a bedraggled mermaid. he's heard that there are cats around, but he's yet to catch sight of one of them yet. not that he's looking for them, wandering around the courtyard in front of the school, glancing around furtively. he's about to give up when he bumps into you, blinking in surprise before covering up quickly. ]

Excuse me, I was just about to head back inside.

[ A skinny pink haired kid blinks at Faust from the lawn as he stumbles out of the pool building. ]

Huh...are we still doing swimming? [ It's all murder water...and bugs. Most of the adults said stay away. They grab a handful of grass as they think, still staring at him.]

Oh...you're bleeding too. You should be careful! The last old guy who went swimming died.

( sidney's been very keen on avoiding the pool right now- but when he spots someone stumbling out, of course he's going to want to help. even if help is in the form of a still-recovering one-armed man offering support. )

Easy there- do you know what happened to you?

[ ah, well recently deceased bodies also found where you woke up isn't exactly what he wants to hear. that's enough murder water for one day. faust hurries away from the pool building and comes to a stop in front of the kid, sitting down in the grass near them, but not next to them. just in case they want some space. also he's tired, let him rest a bit more. ]

Do you know what happened to him...? The last guy?

Not...exactly.

[ faust feels bad to lean on someone else, but also he's tired! not having to support your own weight is nice for a hot sec while he waits for his lungs to start working a bit more. ]

When I woke up, I was in the pool, but before that...

[ he grimaces. does that count as a response? ]

[ They scoot over to make some space. They're hesitant about adults they haven't met before, but this guy looks too wet to be a real threat. ]

Oh...hm. Not sure. It's a big mystery. [ Sorry this cryptic seeming kid is one of your opening meetings, I swear. ] There was a guy who was burned and a guy who fell out a window, but they both ended up thrown in a pool. Weird right?

[ Bugs were also there. Scary. ]

I'm Crona. I don't think I've seen you before, but I don't keep track of everybody.

[ he's like 100 pounds soaking wet, it'll be okay, crona, you could probably take him in a fight.

but also hey what the fuck neither of those things sound good help? what did he wake up to and can he go back to sleep? ]

Are...are you all right? It sounds like a lot's been going on. [ a beat, because he forgot to introduce himself, he realises. ] I'm Faust.

[ Perhaps the emotional toll...nah. ]

Umm...Some things are hard to deal with, but some things aren't. That's better then usual, so I think its okay. [ They wave a hand at him, trying to see if he's focusing okay. It makes sense for Crona to not know whats going on, but an older person? ]

Oh, maybe bugs in my hair was hard. That's never happened before. Have you ever had lots of bugs in your hair Mr. Faust? It's really terrible and wiggly.

[ Akira's stiffling a yawn when they run into each other - lazy demeanor seeking the comfort of his favorite spot to cat-nap under the wisteria tree, and maybe that's what's got him off guard that causes the crash. At first he looks startled behind the shine of his glasses, stumbling back a few steps - and the blinking gaze that levels back on his new company seems without recognition. He's pretty sure he... hasn't met this student? Teacher? It all kind of blurs together for Akira, but the way he seems a bit lost makes him think transfer student. One of them, stuck in the same situation. ]

... Ah. Sorry.

[ He fixes his crooked glasses on the bridge of his nose, the ruffled bangs that obscure his vision. He won't stand in this guy's way if he means to leave, and politely sidesteps out of his direct path, but... Akira's eyes are still watching him curiously, not unlike a reserved cat himself; and after a quiet few moments of observation, he speaks up. ]

... You've got the look of the guy on a mission. You searching for something?

[ Or are you doing something fun? Criminal? Akira's nosey, he might want in. ]

I was...

[ faust fixes his own glasses reflexively, stepping aside just in case he's in the way of this student. he tries to hide his hands under his cloak before he remembers that it's not there and settles for stuffing them in his back pockets instead.

hm, how does it look admitting he was looking for cats? probably kind of weird, right? ]

I heard that sometimes...

[ it takes faust a moment, furrowing his brows while he sorts through crona's words, but they make sense...eventually. but they wave at him, so he waves back with only a little bit of confusion. is that just their custom? a greeting??? ]

Once. Awhile ago. [ like 300-some odd years ago. ] I haven't really had that happen since. You're right, they're very unpleasant, though. I hope you got them all out. And that there weren't any eggs.

[ Akira's expression is quizzical at first, quietly staring back. This guy's clearly anxious to admit it, though he doesn't see anything wrong with the conclusion - Akira was once kindly initiated to the cats himself, so he gets it. Like the mascots to the school, you have to see them up close.

So, like the good student he is, of course he'll help his classmate - right? Quietly, his head cocks to the side. ]

... What's that? I couldn't hear you.

[ Liar, he heard loud and clear - though he keeps a convincing straight face. But it wouldn't hurt... if this guy could just.... admit he likes cats a little louder. Akira wants to hear it. (Sorry he's like this.) ]

[He had been coming by the pool a lot lately, so it was no surprise that he happened to be around to watch a man suddenly climb out of it. At first, he didn't give it much thought, as people tend to come out of a pool drenched, but it was weird seeing a fully clothed man coming out of a saltwater pool, especially looking like he had been through the wringer.]

Are you alright?

[He started heading over towards Faust, narrowing his eyes a little and trying to examine him. The guy seemed very sluggish after all, and Yukio was a doctor.]

[ Oh, he's waving too! Crona grins. Ok, they like him now. The invisible test has been passed. ]

If even Mr. Faust would be scared, then maybe its not weird if I was. [ They tap their knees. ] I don't think there was eggs, everything vanished when the void left. You know about the void right?

[ Literally the worst person to have explain everything, I'm sorry. ]

Baby bugs don't sound very cute...hm hm.

I don't find that weird, no. It's a very unsettling feeling when bugs are in your hair. The...babies are the hardest to remove sometimes. [ faust is slightly more concerned about crona now, but also who is telling them that they shouldn't be scared of bugs. they can have whatever reaction to bugs they want. ]

What was the...void? You mentioned a void.

[ that. that is the part that is concerning him. ]

[ faust flips the sopping wet hair out of his face. squinting helps a little with the stinging, but it doesn't help him make out the student coming towards him. ]

I'm...not sure what happened.

[ he says slowly, quietly, as the boy approaches. his voice is a little scratchy, and he coughs, just to make sure the last of the saltwater is out of his lungs. he's only a little wobbly on his feet, but that's noting a little r&r can't fix. probably. ]

[ hello, yes, not being heard was the point, actually, but that's fine. this is fine. he's fine. faust clears his throat. ]

I was just looking for something, but it's not important. I'll just try another time.

[ look, he tried to admit it once, and that's all you're going to get out of him. it's your fault for not listening, clearly. clearly. ]

[Shepard was searching for something -- anything that could be a clue or a lead to go on on what was going on here. the whole multiple murders in a month didn't really sit well with her, but she looks up when she hears a noise as if someone was nearby.

[ Crona is...concerning. ]

Oh, yeah you must be new! The void is everything. [ Their eyes are wide, pupil pinpricks. ] If you drop any blood on the ground, you go there, where its dark and everyone is a shadow. You can only get back if you punch a mirror. Hard to deal with...

If you're new, you should go talk to Nene...or some of the other adults. Everyone is sad that Clamor died, but not so sad they won't explain things better then me.

[He stops a few feet away from him, brow raising as he looked him over. He looked like he'd been through the wringer. Had he "woken up" like this? Yukio hadn't seen him around before.]

[He reached out towards him, though didn't quite take his arm just in case the man didn't want to be touched.]

( sidney lets him lean though, because while he's experienced a lot in the past two months, he's still a fighter on some level- he does not break for anything. but... waking up in the pool? just what had his unawakened self been doing? it would probably do him little good to know the current events about it too. )
