( time seems to slow down in these precious five seconds- the way he doesn't look at her as he steels himself has her worried, and she only has maybe a moment to register that his hands are on her shoulders- and then she's moving, she's not on the ground, she's approaching the water--

she's approaching the water.

she barely has time to let out a shriek before it engulfs her, and where there was once girl...
