Still, depending on how perceptive the group is and how close they were listening, they might be able to have gathered that it was a pretty good drop. It also seems to have hit the bottom of something, and then clattered further down, suggesting that it was bouncing and tumbling down rather than simply hitting the ground. If they were listening really closely, they might have even heard the clang of metal.
