But down it goes nonetheless, and he'll see a surface some ways down.
Midori's eyes and night vision are both above that of a human, so he'll be able to make out that at the bottom off the ladder is the start of a grand winding staircase that serves as both a landing space and a way down, though how far it stretches is difficult to say.
