It's time for a FAMILY MEETING!

Who: Everyone!

Where: Class 1-B (Gaming Club Items have been stored safely)
What: It's time for a family meeting! Because seriously some things need to be DISCUSSED.
WARNINGS: Death and murder, discussions of cannibalism

After a night of a feral cat losing it's goddamn mind, a day of half the adults and several students looking absolutely exhausted and more, and the end of the auction, clearly something is up. Plus, there'd been plans to investigate certain things after the last meeting that never had been elaborated on. So this time, Nene takes things into her own hands. So once again, transfer students will find a note in their lockers requesting their presence at Class 1-B at 6 PM, after everyone else has gone home.

Even if last time was... kind of a mess.

Is she desperate enough to enact a speaking ball? ... Not yet. But in her pockets is a brand new NERF gun and five darts.

So she unearths the cardboard jail, set up around some desks in the corner, but otherwise clears the board and sets out pieces of chalk... but hoo boy, does she look kind of miffed? And it doesn't even have anything to do with Hanako-kun cracking up at Gay Baby Jail. He'll understand soon enough.

On the board is several things in chalk- "LAST NIGHT", "NEW THINGS" and "FROM LAST TIME" with lines underneath, like she's perparing to take notes. Thankfully, there is more than one piece of chalk however.

Nao makes a face at him, though it's hard to tell whether that's at the nickname or the accusation of being nice or Kokichi's general being, but it does plunge into a deep scowl at the thought of desecrating a body. ]

I don't even know, that's the scary part! I told you in the bathroom, didn't I? Last time we found a body, someone hid it in the clocktower for some reason and just left it there rotting for weeks. Who does that?? And some of the people here are such freaks, I don't wanna know what they'd do with first dibs on a body...

[LOOKING AT U KOMAEDA...]

I did too! But I guess I can forgive you for forgetting since you were kinda getting stitched up at the time.

[Isn't he so nice? That whole mess aside, he leans in in a conspiratorial manner, subtly tapping at his wrist and grinning.]

So aaanyway. How's this whole game work? Are we aiming for a certain number of tally marks? If you get marks from dying, does that mean you just respawn or something? They really haven't told us anything.

[ So lucky... Honestly, though. ]

[ She sets that down first of all, eyes sharp as they flash at Kokichi, but she looks away after, brows drawn together in uncertainty. ]

I don't really know, though... There's nobody to tell anybody anything; it was all sort of unspoken. Having the most "points" by graduation was a popular thought. The senpai have experienced the game and know the rules by watching, while the first years... we get caught up in it and learn for next time.

[ Sometimes getting caught up in it means dying. Coming back, though... ]

Do you know how long it takes for a soul to renew itself? Seven years.

[It sure sounds like a game. A really shitty one where no one is explicitly told the rules and how to win, maybe, but a game regardless. He doesn't flinch away as she snaps at him, just watches her with a cool expression and a slight, unreadable smile, thoughtful.]

So if we hadn't stopped you from dying, then you would have revived in seven years to try again?

I don't know. It's just a belief... It's not like anybody would be keen to test that out.

[ Definitely not her, who idly rubs her thumb over the fabric over her left wrist, who doesn't want to die even once because what is seven years to somebody who is dead? It may as well be an eternity. ]

...you don't remember everything when you come back, either. If it's without remembering, the "you" who died may as well be permanently gone— it wouldn't be the same, you wouldn't be the same person- it's not...

[ It's a mess of an existential crisis, that's what it is, and she shakes her head because she doesn't want to think about it. ]

[Something about that itches at some deep corner of his mind. It's hard to say what it is exactly, but it jostles the same brain cells as his suspicions about their memories and the flashback lights from back in the Ultimate Academy. Nothing concrete, but it's certainly something that's gonna drive him crazy in the coming days.

His eyes flick to her worrying at her wrist. With a quick stretch, he rests his chin in his hands, the picture of idle bored chatter to anyone who happens to glance their way.]

How creepy... Hey, is it just a tally for every death and kill, or do they cancel each other out or something? Can you tell which it is just from looking at them? I wanna know if I had a crazy kill streak going on or what, y'know?

[Flippant, or just covering for how deeply curious he is about all of this? You decide.]

I don't know.

[ Honestly? looking at Kokichi, she suspects crazy streak, and with that thought she shifts a little away from him in her chair, which honestly isn't easily done without falling right over. ]

It's not like people advertise their marks or talk about them. High numbers make you a target, so most people hide them with long sleeves or wristbands or makeup or whatever. You especially should be careful not to show anybody your numbers.

[He's definitely seen glimpses of some people's wrists that seem higher than his! His score isn't that high!

But he catches that look and snickers.]

Relaaax, that was a lie. I'm totally a pacifist! Would a serial killer try so hard to save some random girl?

[Well. Maybe if said serial killer was really interested in the information said random girl has. But no worries, he's definitely a harmless supreme leader of evil.]

Buuut, if I'm understanding it right, doesn't all that mean you can "win" whether you die a lot or kill a lot? Becoming a target still gets you another point, doesn't it? It just takes longer.

[ Anything more than zero is high, with the weight that it carries. Both killing and dying... it's against human nature to do either. ]

I don't know. I wouldn't want to die a dozen times and wait a hundred years just to catch up to you, and you don't know what the target number is either. I don't think mass murder for the sake of numbers is the answer to graduation either... otherwise the school would have been gassed or set on fire.

[Dying over and over again just to reach some unspecified goal...? Hell, maybe this is all just some kind of twisted purgatory. It'd make sense for Kokichi to be here at least, then.]

If that's the only way to graduate, then what happens to third years that survive to the normal end of their school life?

I don't know.

[ She's getting tired of sounding like a broken track record, especially when it comes to questions being posed to her with the expectation that she should know the answers, but she doesn't, and she crosses her arms and frowns. ]

Look, I was only here for a couple months, so all I can do is spitball with you. Maybe they "graduate" too. Maybe they repeat the year. Maybe there aren't any other third years left and the whole point is moot.

[ new drinking game: take a sip every time nao-chan says "i don't know" ]

Maybe they get tossed into the void as punishment for not getting enough points in time! Lucky us for being first years, huh?

[That's actually a worrisome possibility for everyone who was labeled third years, though. If there is a time limit of sorts, it doesn't seem fair to arbitrarily give some people less time. But then, this place doesn't seem to care much about fairness.

Kokichi makes a show of sighing, slumping in his seat.]

But it's weird, isn't it? I mean, we've all only been here a few months too, so why does Doll-chan get to know so much more than the rest of us? You said you just learned by watching, but we've been trying so hard to make sense of everything, y'know? Are we just really dumb...?

[ She looks around the room. Looks at Kokichi. ]

[ Maybe you all are just really dumb. Truth is, she doesn't know why— has to bite back actually saying it— and shakes her head instead. ]

Maybe it's just... the class I was with. The ones that were aware too, who learned things and shared them. But that's nobody I recognize here.

[Ostensibly, this whole meeting is to share things everyone's learned. But, well...

A table flies across the room.

...Yeah, maybe they just suck. Kokichi heaves another dramatic sigh, slumping further to lean against Nao.]

I can't believe I drew the short straw on classes.

[ Closes my eyes at this goddamn table. Nao leans back away from the scene too, as if to physically remove herself from it and any consequences, and if that means leaning back against Kokichi then so be it. ]

...you get along, though. Sort of. Mine didn't at all. We shared stuff, but... I never knew whether they were still withholding something, or just plain lying. We were strangers with a common goal, that's all.

[ And sometimes the common goal isn't the main goal, sometimes it gets pushed to the side when one's personal goal takes precedence: escape. Escape... With such a large group, it's almost impossible to ensure everybody makes it out, but if it's just one person...

She brings her hand to rest on her stomach, over the bandages over her wound. ]

[Did that table just hit Komaeda? Yeah, they toootally get along.

But awww, she likes him. He pats her hand over her stomach – carefully, he's not trying to irritate the wound under it – all friendly and consoling.]

Cheer up! I got killed by a classmate once, and that was before waking up in this creepy murderschool.

[ Murder's happening right in front of them and they're just sitting here like it's normal...

She's just going to take his wrist and pull it away from her stomach and set his hand down on his lap or something, though, because maybe the feeling of being stabbed through the gut is still raw. ]

That is the absolute worst thing to tell somebody in trying to cheer them up, what the fuck?

Really? I thought you'd like hearing about someone taking me out. You did kinda try doing it yourself like, three times back in that bathroom.

[ ...ugh. She makes a face like she knows she should apologize, but on the other hand, Kokichi was goading her, so fuck him. ]

Like I could've done anything to you with how I was. Those other two were also there, so you would've been fine.

[He grins. She's not saying it, but he can sense the guilt and he is satisfied regardless.]

It's true, I'm super hard to kill! Up until I actually died, anyway. But I planned that whole murder too, so it really shouldn't count.

[ The bite is gone, and instead there's the concern and confusion of somebody who doesn't understand and is caught between wanting to and not. What he's saying is basically suicide— what good comes out of that? Not even suicide, but roping another into the deed, whether for their sake or out of ill intent she wouldn't know. Just what would drive somebody to do that? ]

Do you regret it?

[Oh, she actually believed him. He's used to people just dismissing his nonsense as lies without a second thought.]
