a) travels
• open — 05/19, 2nd floor, right wing
( it takes little time for him to figure out the idea — that he can't leave. what's really strange about it is that... others can? there's a distinct lack of physical barriers preventing him, but even so, it's as if the world itself is engineered to trap him here. it is... something that he makes note of, but after some time spent checking his options, it's also something he sincerely doubts will be easily solved. more importantly, what he notices is that there are some students who just... don't go home. as if they aren't concerned with even trying to leave, even as the building begins to empty out for the evening.b) find my way
so it's them he decides to focus on, and the next person to pass him in the hallway is his first victim. with a wave to draw their attention, amami offers a smile. at the same time, his mind turns, trying to figure out how best to phrase this so he doesn't seem like he's crazy if he's wrong. lets see... first off: )
Sorry, but do you have a minute?
• open — 05/19, 1st floor, bulletin board
( another thing he finds to be of note as he wanders through the halls is the bulletin board. the rules, for one, are beyond bizarre — that's a puzzle that he's going to pocket for the time being. what he's really interested in right now is the class assignments. it takes him a few minutes, peering through the names recorded on the sheet, but it does strike him that not all of the names are unfamiliar. a few stand out: kaede akamatsu, shuichi saihara, kokichi ouma... if it's true... well, at least one of those names is someone that amami has reason to consider may be trustworthy in a situation like this.c) wildcard
option one:
this time, victim number two is anybody who happens to be near the front hall. turning to glance at them, he gestures to the sheet. )
Hey, you wouldn't happen to know Kaede Akamatsu, would you?
option two:
( or maybe your name is one of those he'd recognize in the first place. in that case, when he turns, instead of an amicable smile, you're treated with a momentary expression of wide-eyed surprise. )
What a coincidence, I didn't think I'd see you here.
• open — anywhere, any time
( have an idea? feel free to throw anything else my way, or if you're unsure, you can hit me up via pm or atkagehira! )
b2 (v3 spoilers)
Oh. Not a stranger.
There's just the briefest moment in which Kokichi's expression remains unreadable as he processes. It's not quite a shock – he's here, after all, and he saw Kaede too, clearly it was possible – but something about Rantaro's being right there in the flesh still catches him just a bit off guard. Maybe it's just that his absence was a fact far longer than his presence was. He was a walking treasure chest of important information dumped overboard before it could be touched, long since lost.
That blank stare quickly vanishes, however, as Kokichi adopts a shocked expression.]
Amami-chan?!
[Gasp. What a surprise! He gives it just a moment of apparent stunned surprise before he's diving to tackle the taller boy with a hug around the waist, fake(?) tears already flowing.]
no subject
( so it's that bad, huh?
he can't help it — that's the first thought that runs through his mind when the other boy's arms wrap around his waist. that initial expression, processing the situation, that wasn't so surprising. the hug that followed, though? even if ouma seems the type who pays little mind to relationship boundaries, the delivery feels a bit much, doesn't it? and considering the instant nature of his own circumstances, the smooth segue between one library and the next — awareness of the full context is out of the question. but even with ouma's fickle nature considered, it's still generally seemed in response to the circumstances. assuming that he has a reason this time as well, the cause would probably originate from this place — that's the conclusion amami reaches.
it's not as if they're particularly close, right? so it couldn't be anything to do with him.
even so, it's not like he can just stand there and do nothing when he's on the receiving end of such an act either. his brows knit together, but there's an apologetic smile on his lips, and he'll tentatively return the hug he's been caught in. )
Hey, hey, whoa... It's okay, did something happen?
no subject
He buries his face against Rantaro's chest, huffing a frustrated noise. His voice is wobbly with his hysterics, but of course he can still get out the words. All the theatrics would be kinda pointless if they rendered him completely useless.]
What do you mean, "Did something happen?" Wh-what kind of a question is that...?
[Does he not know...? That's something he hadn't considered. He and Kaede clearly saw it coming, of course they knew. But Rantaro... Is he even aware of what happened to him?]
no subject
he spends a long moment quiet, brows scrunched together (and absently rubbing ouma's back out of habit) as he tries to put the pieces together. there's a pit of dread sinking in his stomach at the possibilities that cross his mind. the final verdict, though? )
Sorry, but I think you're gonna have to clue me in.
( the situation he remembers was urgent, and a little bit strange, but... it wasn't in such a way that it explains this. )
no subject
And, well...all things considered, Rantaro can be considered "safe", probably. Definitely not the mastermind of the previous killing game – short of any absolutely bullshit secret twin or body double plot twists, anyway – and as a result highly unlikely to be responsible for whatever's going on here. His cluelessness seems sincere too, at least in Kokichi's opinion as an expert at detecting lies. And given everything that's happened here, all the constant tension and tiptoeing around the person he'd like to feel this sure about, this is just...nice.
Too bad he's gonna have to spoil it. Oh well.]
You really don't know?
[Kokichi lifts his head to look up at Rantaro, still clinging but the crying has abruptly stopped. The stains of tears remain, but it's still a disconcertingly sudden shift to Kokichi's piercing stare, searching for answers.]
You didn't feel anything? Was it really that fast? It didn't even hurt?
[Well...good for him. Kokichi sure can't say the same for himself.]
no subject
I can't say for sure, but it must have been fast enough.
( a shadow falls over his expression as he offers his matter-of-fact answer; really, those questions give more than enough context to confirm one of the worse-case scenarios, now don't they? he's not an idiot — he saw the iron shot put ball hit the ground next to him, and understands the gravity of the situation they were in at the time. he supposes that it must have been a murder attempt, but if he really did fail in his own plan, then having met such a quick end is of little condolence to him. and at the same time, how would he end up here? he's shown that he understands, but thinking through things in this way, his next words come out rather low, as a warning. )
Hey, if you're pulling my leg, this isn't the time. Joking about that with the situation we were in wouldn't make me laugh.
no subject
[But smart, too. Kokichi's noticed that the first time around, even if there wasn't much opportunity to show it off. Rantaro was definitely a lot more clever than his easygoing demeanor suggested. The fact that he was trying to solve things on his own was evidence enough of that. It takes brains and pragmatism to recognize when others can't be trusted, no matter how much everyone seems to get along.
Kokichi smiles wryly before ducking his head back against Rantaro's chest. Fuck it, he'll just enjoy the hug while it lasts.]
But I'm not lying. And I thiiink you know that. Otherwise, your immediate response would have been more like, "Huh? What are you talking about?"
[It's a silly impersonation of Rantaro's voice, not trying all that hard to actually sound like him. Kokichi's typical, odd brand of levity that even subjects like these aren't exempt from.]
no subject
It's not that I think it's impossible or anything, but If I died, how would I be in front of you right now?
( he can accept the reality of what might have happened to him; he understood their circumstances at the time well, but... dead people don't go around walking and talking, y'know. and for all of ouma's strange handling of it, this is something easy enough for him to confirm with the others; if it does happen to be real then amami would rather get understanding it out of the way now than walk into his conversations with them this clueless.
also, honestly, he's probably in the midst of untangling his fingers to let go when ouma redoubles on his clinging. it's followed by some hesitation, but... his face is still pretty wet, even if that voice of his is cheerful, so with fingers laced absently behind ouma's back, amami decides he can keep it until he gives an answer. if this really is the truth, then it can be considered as earned. )
no subject
Who knows? Maybe this is hell.
[Kokichi's tone is dry. Coming from him, that certainly sounds flippant enough. It could be easily dismissed as normal Kokichi nonsense. But he said he was telling the truth, didn't he? So maybe he's implying something with that...
Or maybe he's just fucking around. Who really knows with this kid?]
no subject
( yeah, an answer like that is pretty difficult to accept as an explanation for this. then again, he did wake up with a jar of fingernails, and it's pretty clear that this place isn't... normal. for now it's a net gain in information for him either way, since the claim can be easily checked with the others when he sees them. with that in mind he'll carry on as if it's true until it can be proven otherwise, because as far as he's concerned it's better to embarrass himself by taking a situation too seriously than to underestimate the gravity of it.
and so, in doing so, he'll finally let ouma go. he needs those hands free now so that he can run one of them through his hair, letting out a frustrated huff of a sigh as he does so. )
Sorry, Ouma-kun, it looks like I let you guys down then. Even though I said I would end the killing game for sure...
no subject
Eh? Oh, it's fine! I don't think anyone was actually expecting you to.
[ that's...kind of a lowkey drag, but okay ]
no subject
not that it affects amami too much anyway. he remains dead serious about the entire thing regardless of ouma's apparent lack of faith. )
No, I definitely could have done it. It's strange though, it seemed like there was some kind of trap, but...
( the only two people who should have known about that place... were him and the mastermind? )
no subject
[Nonchalantly, he turns to wander down the hall, away from the more populated areas. Rantaro is free to follow him, of course. Kokichi assumes he will – surely he wants to know more about his own death.]
I'm preeetty sure you were just set up to think you could do it. And you fell for it! But it was never gonna work. No way the mastermind didn't know exactly what you were up to.
[He may not be the Ultimate Detective, but Kokichi's good at picking up on the things that no one else does. The bugs Gonta had seen, the missing Monopad from the photos that everyone else had simply dismissed when Kokichi pointed it out...
He had some theories. Not enough to corner the mastermind with certainty, but he could at least say for sure that Rantaro had never had a chance.]
🚨 V3 spoilers 🚨
So in that case, I guess my real title should've been the Ultimate Sacrifice or something, huh.
( some fuckin "survivor" perk that was!!! sure, he'd had his doubts, but... well, anyway, there's nothing he can do about it here and now, so amami is just going to go on ahead and follow ouma as he wanders off. while his initial comment had been rather detached in tone, his expression easily betrays his irritation with the situation. )
You sure seem to know a lot about the mastermind's plan though. You guys... ended up catching them, right?
( in his heart he already knows the answer. unfortunately, he still has to ask. )
no subject
Not as far as I got, but who knows? Maybe Saihara-chan pulled it off. You should ask him about it.
no subject
his fingers curl into a fist and, yeah, he won't even bother with an attempt at covering it up — the frustration is written across his own expression plain as day. )
Sorry to hear that, then. ( on both counts. ) Guess I will.
no subject
Ah, well. At least he masks it better than Rantaro.
Kokichi gives an idle hum, just acknowledgement that Rantaro had responded, before facing forward again with a bounce in his step.]
Hey, hey, do you have any merit points yet? I wanna get a snack!
no subject
That what those are for — snacks? Yeah, looks like I have a few.
( guess ouma can have something for catching him up. as a treat. )
no subject
Yup! For now, anyway. We were able to use them for this charity auction they had the other week too, buuut that's over already.
[Just happily leading the way to the vending machines. He hasn't said anything about getting Rantaro to treat him, but hey, clearly some things just don't need to be said. How nice, Rantaro knows how to take care of his Supreme Leader!]
