( it takes little time for him to figure out the idea — that he can't leave. what's really strange about it is that... others can? there's a distinct lack of physical barriers preventing him, but even so, it's as if the world itself is engineered to trap him here. it is... something that he makes note of, but after some time spent checking his options, it's also something he sincerely doubts will be easily solved. more importantly, what he notices is that there are some students who just... don't go home. as if they aren't concerned with even trying to leave, even as the building begins to empty out for the evening.

so it's them he decides to focus on, and the next person to pass him in the hallway is his first victim. with a wave to draw their attention, amami offers a smile. at the same time, his mind turns, trying to figure out how best to phrase this so he doesn't seem like he's crazy if he's wrong. lets see... first off: )

( another thing he finds to be of note as he wanders through the halls is the bulletin board. the rules, for one, are beyond bizarre — that's a puzzle that he's going to pocket for the time being. what he's really interested in right now is the class assignments. it takes him a few minutes, peering through the names recorded on the sheet, but it does strike him that not all of the names are unfamiliar. a few stand out: kaede akamatsu, shuichi saihara, kokichi ouma... if it's true... well, at least one of those names is someone that amami has reason to consider may be trustworthy in a situation like this.

this time, victim number two is anybody who happens to be near the front hall. turning to glance at them, he gestures to the sheet. )

Hey, you wouldn't happen to know Kaede Akamatsu, would you?

( or maybe your name is one of those he'd recognize in the first place. in that case, when he turns, instead of an amicable smile, you're treated with a momentary expression of wide-eyed surprise. )

Lots- at least a couple dozen. Sometimes we lose people and never see them again, and then more join us.

( it's hard not to think about people who should be there and suddenly aren't anymore. how quiet and quick it is, like they never existed to begin with. she thought that after helping yako-nee, she'd never have to deal with that again. )

( that's... certainly a way to put it. the way it's phrased, it doesn't sound like they're dying, but rather... disappearing? as if they're misplaced keys or something. in any case, after blinking for a moment, he'll fold his arms over his chest. )

Sorry, I can tell this isn't your favourite topic, but I suppose you can say that I'll be joining you for a while. If it's not too much trouble, can you tell me a little bit more about this place?

... Some of them turn up dead. But not- not all of them, or at least, not that we've found. People who aren't trapped like us act like they never existed or moved away. If it's denial or something else, we don't really know.

( and that's not even going into the void school and whatever effect it might have on this side of things as well. )

No, it's okay. It's good to know what you can. But it's gonna be a lot. Most of us became aware of... uh, having a second set of memories on the day of the graduation ceremony in March. Those of us who did have been trapped in the school ever since- we can't open the doors or windows, and aside from the forums on our PDAs we can't contact the outside world either. However, everyone else seems unaware of what's happening to us and will treat us like we're making things up or being weird, so trying to reach out on the PDA is kind of... pointless. We also can't access certain parts of the school, but we don't know why.

The water is tampered with and unsafe to use without filtering it- um. Holmes-san and Campbell-san were working on that, I think, they're like us. The, um. The meat in the fridges in the Home Ec room is also unsafe for a lot of reasons. ( please don't make her say it. ) We have monthly meetings to discuss tings we've found out or any progress we've made, too.

( there's definitely more but she's just gonna give him time to process things before she gets into the weird, definitely supernatural stuff. )

( amami is quiet through the explanation, listening intently with a thoughtful expression as she details the nature of this place. a shadow seems to fall across his expression at the mention of this disappearances being more violent than such a description had led him to expect, but... overall, it's good information to have. confirmation that besides being freaky and moderately bizarre, this place is downright dangerous — as suspected. she leaves off, and while he gets the sense that's not all she has to share, he isn't about to pass up an opportunity to slide in some questions. )

( which is a relief, honestly. he'd hate to arrive only to find things were a chaotic mess — at least there's some kind of a concerted effort in progress. )

The monthly meetings — when are those?

( they sound like as good an opportunity as any to catch up with those efforts of theirs. )

( oh amami, you have no idea. we have komaeda and rika and hyde. even at it's most organized it will remain chaos. even without the supernatural occurances... which she still needs to get to, but how.

nene speaks thoughtfully as she tries to remember anything else of note. )

So far they've been around the middle of the month both times- it's been different organizers, and someone else has volunteered to take the next one. There'll always be a notice given ahead of time though! We've also agreed to host it early or have an extra one if anything noteworthy happens.

So I must've just missed one then, huh. That's too bad.

( looks like it'll be a bit of a wait before he gets his next opportunity, which is a shame, but he can be patient. )

One more question. This might be a bit ambitious, but do we know why we're here?

( school killing life be like cons: told to kill each other, pros: at least they were told why they were there at all. )

By a few days, yes.

... No, though the 'goal' seems to be graduation. What that entails hasn't been revealed in full, yet- especially with everyone else acting like things are normal. But... there is one strange thing. We don't know why, but.

( she takes a deep breath, because hoo boy. he's new, he might not be so open to this sort of thing. )

This is going to sound really, really out there but I promise I'm telling the truth. But if any blood makes contact with the building's floor, anyone who sees it is... taken? To another version of the school. It's cold and dark and run down and almost no one else is around, and the only way back is by breaking a mirror- Clamor-san could tell you more, I don't like being there long, it's. It's awful, and I know it sounds crazy...

( "i know it sounds crazy." well, to be fair, amami came here open to hearing a lot. he really thought he had an open mind, y'know? because obviously, something about this place isn't right. but, well, can't be helped; the more she describes it, the more his eyes kind of... glaze over. it's not that he doesn't believe her but... he's been here for a total of maybe two hours. it's a lot to take in. he'll blink a couple times after she's done, expression pretty much frozen in place, and then — )

( not saying that he doesn't believe her, mind you; he has little reason to think that she would lie to him considering her explanations so far. it's just, y'know. yeah. wow. hoo boy is right. )

fiddling with the hem of her blazer sleeves, nene gives him an apologetic look, head somewhat bowed. she can't tell if that's disbelief or bewilderment and she's really hoping it's the latter, because- if he gets caught off guard, what if... no, no one would willingly just. jump into the void.

( he's just going to do this instead, because it's easier than thinking about blood world. the words are a little bit stern, but there's a softness underlying his tone even as he says them, and his serious expression resembles concern more than anything even remotely scolding. with that said, even if he thinks he can't really be blamed for needing a minute (and still kind of feels like he could use another,) it would be rude to just... leave her hanging after sharing something like that. )

( she can't just drop the fact that she accidentally trapped herself in blood world without knowing how to get out and then skip right to the next topic... insane. it does NOT make amami any less concerned. and besides, even separately from that, he'd... actually feel pretty bad, if this girl were to go out of her way just to look after him. it should be the other way around as far as he's concerned, and you know what? he's gonna say it, too. )

But you only just woke up- you must be really confused, especially after all of that...

( nene's a simple girl. she craves simple things in life- to be liked, to be loved and to care for others. she remembers how terrifying it was, coming to in the middle of her school life with different, clashing memories and a thousand questions with only overwhelming, smothering answers. why wouldn't she try to help him?

( oh, why shouldn't she help him? that's easy. because this place seems dangerous enough without getting involved with him, someone who has enough of a penchant for getting wrapped up in all types of danger. and honestly, there's not a single kind that he'd be okay with exposing her to unnecessarily. maybe... if he gets a better sense for this place and the threats it poses, he can consider it down the line. for now? he's just going to reply to the comment she leaves off on instead. )

You mean it's someone you knew from before this place, then? Does that happen often?

( it's because this place is so dangerous that she wants to. she knows better than perhaps anyone here- love, kindness, simple faith... it's all so much more powerful than people think. even if she can't draw regret and renewed hope from their captor this time, she can at least extend it to everyone else. and from there... who knows? but it's worth it. it always will be. so nene gives amami a small smile, because she's meant every word sincerely. )
