nice colors

Who: Rantarou Amami & you!
What: Arrival & introduction
When: 05/19 and onwards
Where: Various locations
Warnings: Dangan Ronpa V3 spoilers in comments

a) travels
• open — 05/19, 2nd floor, right wing
( it takes little time for him to figure out the idea — that he can't leave. what's really strange about it is that... others can? there's a distinct lack of physical barriers preventing him, but even so, it's as if the world itself is engineered to trap him here. it is... something that he makes note of, but after some time spent checking his options, it's also something he sincerely doubts will be easily solved. more importantly, what he notices is that there are some students who just... don't go home. as if they aren't concerned with even trying to leave, even as the building begins to empty out for the evening.

so it's them he decides to focus on, and the next person to pass him in the hallway is his first victim. with a wave to draw their attention, amami offers a smile. at the same time, his mind turns, trying to figure out how best to phrase this so he doesn't seem like he's crazy if he's wrong. lets see... first off: )

Sorry, but do you have a minute?
b) find my way
• open — 05/19, 1st floor, bulletin board
( another thing he finds to be of note as he wanders through the halls is the bulletin board. the rules, for one, are beyond bizarre — that's a puzzle that he's going to pocket for the time being. what he's really interested in right now is the class assignments. it takes him a few minutes, peering through the names recorded on the sheet, but it does strike him that not all of the names are unfamiliar. a few stand out: kaede akamatsu, shuichi saihara, kokichi ouma... if it's true... well, at least one of those names is someone that amami has reason to consider may be trustworthy in a situation like this.

option one:
this time, victim number two is anybody who happens to be near the front hall. turning to glance at them, he gestures to the sheet. )

Hey, you wouldn't happen to know Kaede Akamatsu, would you?

option two:
( or maybe your name is one of those he'd recognize in the first place. in that case, when he turns, instead of an amicable smile, you're treated with a momentary expression of wide-eyed surprise. )

What a coincidence, I didn't think I'd see you here.
c) wildcard
• open — anywhere, any time
( have an idea? feel free to throw anything else my way, or if you're unsure, you can hit me up via pm or at [plurk.com profile] kagehira! )

[ Kokichi really is the best at making things worse.

She tries not to cry even more when he apologizes, the only thing stopping her from doing so the realization that he doesn't know. Kaede vehemently shakes her head. ]

No, I'm the one who wasn't able to put an end to it.

[ And she knows she needs to explain that, so: ]

I... I set a trap for the mastermind, because I thought I could save everyone if I was able to kill them.

[ She looks down at the ground as she confesses that, because she was the one who started the killing game by letting those thoughts take root in the first place. ]

You were the one who got caught in it instead. I'm sorry.

[ She did do something wrong. She was trying to do the right thing, but instead Kaede made a huge mistake—one she can't take back. ]

[ How calm Rantarou is surprises her, but then again... He had always been so calm, to the point it was a little eerie. Kaede manages to stop her tears for now.

She can't even refute the unnecessary comment either—now that she's had time away from the situation, Kaede realizes she shouldn't have tried to fix everything on her own. As she speaks again, her voice is quiet, but firm. Kaede will answer whatever he wants to ask, after all. ]

It was... a shotput. I'm a fan of Rube Goldberg machines, so I set one up so that the shotput would roll along the bookcase and fall right where the camera was.

[ And the flash Rantarou saw too, that would have drawn him there. She's sure that he can put those pieces together. ]

[ Fell off of the shelf... He saw it...

It didn't hit him? Kaede stares at him, her eyes wide in shock. ]

Huh? You... You didn't get hit by it? But it was laying right next to you, with blood all over it.

[ Kaede pauses, realizing she just told him what he looked like when he was dead. She should be more careful. ]

Sorry. You probably don't want to hear about that. [ She shakes her head, trying to clear up some of the confusion she feels. ] But that was the only one I had... If that didn't kill you...

[ Does that mean she didn't actually kill him? There's a lot of weight to that very idea, and it makes her head spin. If that's the case, then she was executed for nothing. ]

[ She shakes her head. ]

No. I didn't want anyone to find out I killed the mastermind.

[ Who would want to be friends with a killer, after all? That's beside the point, though. ]

So there wasn't anyone who would've known about that trap. I was really careful to hide it, you know.

[ Kaede frowns, going over the sequences of events in her head. If she wasn't the one who did it, then who...? ]

There wasn't anyone down there when all of us found you...

[ And that timeframe was pretty narrow too. Hm. ]

[ Being set up... Now that she thinks of it, it makes sense. ]

You know... I agree with you. The mastermind probably saw you as a threat, so when they had a chance to get rid of you...

[ Where Kaede herself plays into that, she's not sure. Was she just a convenient sacrifice, or was she a target? Actually, now that she thinks about it— ]

The mastermind went against their own rules to punish me, even though Monokuma acted like the rules were super important to follow. There's no way this wasn't a set up.

[ Kaede shakes her head. ]

I... I didn't confess. When I realized I didn't kill the mastermind, I decided I would try to draw them out in a trial.

[ She pauses, bringing one of her hands up to hold onto her arm and steady herself. ]

I couldn't manage to do it, so...

[ She got executed. ]

[ Kaede shakes her head. ]

It's not your fault, Amami-kun. If anyone should be apologizing, it's me. I'm the one who came up with that plan to kill the mastermind when I shouldn't have tried to do everything on my own.

[ But in that case... Maybe they were both at fault for trying to do things on their own. If they had teamed up—

There's no point in thinking about it now. ]

[ He has a point, and it's what the others were telling her before she died. But still, Kaede can't let go of the guilt she feels over letting those thoughts get into her brain in the first place. She shouldn't have let it get to that point.

Kaede falls quiet, her gaze falling towards the ground. ]

You're... You're right. I just wish it hadn't been this way, I guess. I wish we could get a do-over or something.

[ But they can't. ]
