life is full of games (OPEN)
Who: Stephanie AND YOU
When: 29th-1st
What: Stephanie tries to keep herself occupied.
[all alone, unable to play outside, in a rundown location. how familiar.
but, somehow, Stephanie doubts that she can shoot a letter into the sky and fix everything, this time.
she always makes do, though, and as the days of spring break go by, she does what she does what she does best: play. she likes the auditorium best of all; until she can go outside, it's probably the most appropriate place to play. on the 29th, she's playing hopscotch, having drawn out a board using charcoal and using a piece of the same as a marker. on the 31st, she's playing Brave Knight Sir Pinky with the really neat resin knife someone decided to give a small child, fencing with her own shadow, with the sort of stance and surety that makes it clear that someone has taken the time to literally teach her fencing.]
En garde! Pret! Allez!
[she also finds herself drawn to the clock tower. sure, it's pretty high up, but it's the only way she can see outside. on the 1st, during the day, she can be found with her face pressed against the glass like a poor kid in a candy store, just looking. like she can somehow soak up some of that great outdoors through thick glass. she can also be seen writing intently in a notebook, idly nibbling on the very last of an apple core.
she has set up a makeshift bed in the corner of her homeroom class, with her extra uniform as a pillow and a "sleeping bag" that is just a length of fabric she's wrapped herself up in like a little pink burrito. she is in bed by 8:08 sharp every night, and asleep by 8:30. until such a time that this changes, she is blissfully unaware of the nightly silence.]

Ishimaru smiles, but he otherwise looks somewhat nervous and out of place as he looks over the aforementioned boxes.]
Ah, I see! I... have never studied such a game before...
[He seems uncertain, but he really is incapable of saying no!]
I- I am certainly willing to give it a try! If so, I would like to apologize if my performance is pitiful!
no subject
she speaks carefully, kindly, like talking to a spooked animal.]
So, you've "studied" [actually physically makes airquotes] other games. Does that mean you've played those games, or did you just read about them in books?
no subject
That would be, ah, mostly the latter. I happen to focus on working hard in my studies, after all! So I have mostly played 'brain games' such as Othello, or shogi. Regretfully, I have not paid much mind to other kinds of games!
no subject
she just smiles. Determined.]
Well, it's never too late to learn! Exercising your brain is good, but what about the rest of you? Playing games is very important for your personal growth!
no subject
However! I accept that there are lessons I can learn only from playing such games! The- the idea of personal growth sounds promising!
no subject
she scoops up her charcoal, holding it out to him.]
Here! For a first game, you can't beat hopscotch. I've been using this as a marker, but if you have anything else on you that you don't mind throwing on the floor, you can use that.
no subject
[He grasps it in a tight fist! He looks from his hand to the squares.]
And afterwards, we can clean any mess that it creates! [He almost sounds more excited for that part!] So to make sure I get this right, I throw this into a square, then I have to avoid stepping in that square and instead retrieve the item as I pass it? Am I correct?
no subject
she nods.] And you can't fall, or hop outside of the lines. If you make it through, you get a point. First one ahead by two points wins.
no subject
Understood! [He nods firmly to confirm that.] I will do my best! With that, I suppose I should get started...
[Ishimaru tosses the charcoal onto one of the middle boxes! And then, he starts his jumping. With each jump, he lets out some kind of grunt. He's good enough at keeping his balance for the most part, but he ends up landing on the lines between boxes twice over the course of his round. He does wibble when trying to pick up the charcoal, but he manages to keep himself from toppling and then reaches the finish.]
There!
no subject
That was really good! That's one point for you.
no subject
I suppose that now it is your turn? ...Ah, but we should do introductions as well! My name is Kiyotaka Ishimaru. I believe in the power of working hard!
no subject
[she takes the charcoal and tosses it to a middle space. her moves through the course are precise, but a little slow; this is mainly because she's busy plotting out in her head how to throw the game without making it too obvious.]
Point for me!
no subject
Well said, Stephanie-kun! I approve in your beliefs wholeheartedly. It sounds like you are quite the diligent youngster!
[And he watches as she goes through the next round. He's easily impressed by it. So this is what it's like to watch a pro hopscother in action!]
Good job! You truly do know your way around this game. I will do my best to keep up!
[While Ishimaru is... not thinking of throwing the game. He believes that whoever wins should do so on their own merits! So with his turn again, he goes through the motions... but he ends up rushing it a bit and accidentally steps on the space containing the charcoal.]
Ah - darn!
no subject
[now, one more run for plausible deniability, and then she'll beef it. ugh, why did this always seem so less difficult when she did it for Ziggy. possibly because it's easier to dupe six year olds.]
Two to one. [hands him charcoal] Good luck! You can do it!
no subject
[Now he goes through his next round. More slowly and carefully. This time without any slip-ups! And then he hands it back to her.]
Now do your best!
no subject
[she makes it about halfway through the course before she overextends a jump, requiring her to put her foot down out of bounds to catch herself.]
Oh, now we're tied again!
no subject
[He says as he does some stretches while watching her go through her next round. Ishimaru frets as she misses that one jump.]
Ah, I suppose that we are. Do not worry. You can learn from your mistakes and do better in the future! [With that, Ishimaru goes through his next round. Another uneventful, successful one!]
no subject
Stephanie is pretty good at falling. it's pretty much what gymnastics is. and it's why when she lands her jump on the piece of charcoal and slips, she's able to catch herself on her hands and tumble to a softer landing.]
-- Oh, no, did I break it? [which helps to distract AND is also genuine worry because that was the charcoal she'd been using to write with. and now it is powder. nooooo.]
no subject
He gasps as she falls over, though!]
Stephanie-kun!! [And he's immediately rushing to her side to check on her, even if she seems perfectly alright.] Are - are you okay? The... charcoal seems to be broken, but that is not important now! Your wellbeing is the highest priority! H-hang in there! [He may be vastly overestimating the impact of her fall.]
no subject
I... hope the school doesn't mind, that I broke it. [she says, to cover up that she's actually a little upset that she worried him so badly.] I was going to put it back, once I found a pencil...
no subject
I- I am so relieved that you are alright, Stephanie-kun! [He's lived through enough death that even this gives him a scare.
But now he's feeling more level-headed, and so he turns his attention towards the shattered charcoal.]
...I am sure they will be forgiving. It - it is a minor loss in the long run. [Normally, the destruction of any school property offends him. But he tries to downplay that feeling, for the girl's sake.] And we can look for other things to write with after we clean this up! How does that sound?
no subject
-- Oh, Kiyotaka! You were ahead when I fell, right? That means you won!
no subject
Ah, I suppose I was ahead. So... I won? Is... is it truly okay to claim victory now?! [He feels a little bad winning because of her falling!]
no subject
It was fair and square!
no subject
I- I suppose it was. I just feel bad winning just because of your unfortunate fall.
But, ah, that is alright! [He offers her a supportive smile.] Keep trying your best, and I am sure that you will beat me next time!
