THERE AINT NO PARTY LIKE A BLANKET FORT SLUMBER PARTY

Who: OPEN to anyone and everyone!
When: May 22nd (Saturday) after 6pm and the following morning
Where: Class 3-D
What: it's time to heal from all the chaos and murder with a blanket fort slumber party, hell yeah hell yeah

Sometime after school has fully closed for the day and everyone else has gone home, a sign is put up on the door to 3-D. In rounded letters and surrounded by drawings of flowers and a couple cartoon cats, it reads:

BLANKET FORT CONSTRUCTION ZONE
slumber party @ 8pm
all are welcome!
(rule breakers will be sent to JAIL)

... if you show up early, everything might still be in the process of being set up, but by 8pm most of the desks and chairs in the room have either been pushed to the sides or stacked strategically in the middle to form mighty fortress walls. These are, of course, topped with blankets for cover, because it wouldn't be a blanket fort without blankets. Blankets are a limited resource at the school, so it's recommended to bring your own if you don't want to share a fort with someone else. Or maybe just steal a big scrap of fabric from the art room. Close enough, right?

Aside from the obvious arrangements at the centre, there is an un-blanketed pair of desks set aside for snacks. Nene made cookies, and Clamor has put out a bowl of healthy nuts and fruit (as if anyone would actually take those over the cookies). For drinks, there are a few bottles of juice and one pot of (thoroughly filtered) tea and a few cups to use. A small folded sign at the table politely reads "Don't be greedy."

If you are greedy, or if you harass anyone else just trying to have a good time, you risk being sent to... gay baby jail. It is, as always, a cardboard box situated in the farthest corner of the room, and guarded diligently by only the most fearsome of dads and buff teenagers. You have been warned.

There is also a second cardboard jail cell on the opposite corner of the room, which is not labelled (yet). The inside is absolutely covered in scratch marks, since it's the same box that was used to catch the cat earlier in the month... but now it's jail 2: jail harder. It is reserved for criminals who cannot be allowed to collaborate during jail time, and you know who you are, please just behave yourselves.

This is meant to be a slumber party, so eventually, an amount of slumber will be expected. Luckily it's the weekend, so everyone is welcome to sleep in for as long as they want... just don't sleep in too late, unless you want to get stuck helping with clean up.

((OOC: It's another mingle!!! Feel free to make your own toplevels and comment around, start some party games, bring some extra snacks, hijack Nene's nerf gun to lay siege to your neighbour's fort... w/e!

This is meant to be something of a break from the usual death and despair of murderschool, so please don't do any actual murders in this log that is literally the lowest bar i can ask of y'all. Put warnings in your threads as needed! General chaos is fine, but characters that cause too much of a disturbance will be manhandled and sent to gay baby jail. You have been warned... twice!!

ICly the fort construction and party is being arranged by Clamor, Noah, Sidney and Nene, but basically anyone who wants to pop in and help out is welcome to, and CR may have been asked to join/help out in advance. If you need an excuse for your character to come, someone else could've dragged them there to chill—just ask!

anyway that's all pls have fun, go nuts))

I believe you're right.

We must strive to ensure that there's a balance in all of this...that we're not working too hard or slacking off too much.

I'm sure doing this right now after everything that's happened will help prepare us for more in the future. Or maybe that's just me being optimistic.

[ At that, Meng Yao allowed a pleasant smile to grace his features. ]

Yeah, gotta make sure we recharge our batteries and all that.

( it seems like he's given a good answer though, so he returns the smile with one of his own. )

Mind if we introduce ourselves? I'm still getting to know everyone here.

Of course.

[ Meng Yao will give a little bow. ]

This humble one is named Meng Yao. It is a pleasure to meet you, despite our circumstances.

I hope we're able to work through all of this together and leave safely as soon as possible.

( amami will wait for meng yao to finish with his introduction before mimicking him with a small bow of his own. and maybe not excessively so, but he does try to adapt the style of his speech too, presenting himself in a slightly more humble manner to follow the other's lead. when in rome, right? )

My name is Rantarou Amami. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance as well, Meng Yao.

( and with that out of the way, he'll pocket one hand, gesturing absently with the other as he continues. )

So what are you looking for here — taking a break too, or trying to suss out some useful contacts?

( 'cause amami can't help but think he might be leaning to the latter, if not both. )

[ ...Ah.

Meng Yao felt a slight bit of nervousness at that, but, there was no reason to be, right? Some people were evidently also here for that. ]

Both, actually. You see, I haven't had the chance to get to know people as well as I'd like to, and a lot has happened enough that I'd prefer some downtime. Sounds reasonable, doesn't it?

( amami nods along in understanding. good answer. )

Yeah, I guess we're not so different then. I haven't been here long so, to be honest, I feel kind of bad taking a break already.

( even if he did kind of need a moment to process some of that exposition he managed to pick up. )

But like I said, I don't want to drag down the mood either, so I'm just trying to get a feel for everyone right now.

I believe that's only a natural consequence of being in a place like this. It can easily become mentally tiring...and physically, if you're not careful. I'm sure you've figured that out by now.

[ In other words, things can get difficult fast. Not exactly the best place for any of them to be, but so it is.

Then, he'll smile a little. ]

Well, if you want to help get a feel for everyone, I'm sure recommending a pillow fight to the others and watching everyone else's reaction to it might help.

[ ...That was a joke. It's been awhile since Meng Yao had tried speaking about anything with a sense of humor. Maybe the first time since his arrival, but the other had also spoke about the mood, and this was supposed to be a party, so... ]

( oh, hold up — that's pretty cute. amami, for one, is pretty fond, and that smile of his stretches into a full-on grin for a moment. )

It's not a bad idea — I'd hate to ruin all the hard work everyone put into the forts though, y'know?

( that said, he is pocketing the suggestion for now. when you least expect it, meng yao — keep your eyes open.

and anyway, straight-up rejection is a bit much. amami can hardly just leave it at that, so with a bit of thought, he'll offer up an alternative: )

How about two truths and a lie? We might not be able to get the whole group involved, but I hear that's a pretty popular game for these things.

( he says it like that, as if he doesn't have any experience with slumber parties. which, well, most of it was second-hand, a very, very long time ago, and kind of fell within the age groups where... yeah, a pillow fight would usually be picked first. he's giving it a try, though. )

I understand. They went through the trouble of putting up these forts as it is.

[ Meng Yao wouldn't dare to ruin things as they were or upset the status quo. Though he was not expecting an impromptu pillow fight...so that would be fun. Either way, he took it with good humor, judging by the smile that still remained. ]

I've never played anything like two truths and a lie myself. But, it sounds like it could be fun...am I right to assume that the answer to what it involves is in the title? People go around stating two truths and a lie, and you would need to figure it out?

[ To be honest, he never had a fun childhood. He never played party games, and so he felt strange being here in a room where one was being played. He could talk to people just fine, but doing those things beyond that never had come easy to him...still, he wanted to see if he could try.

It was nice, really, people not dismissing him because of his birth. And it was something he was still getting used to. ]

I don't really get to do things like this too often either. It seems like a pretty good way to get to know someone though, right?

( classroom icebreaker for a reason and all that, if amami were the type to ever... like, show up to class.

in any case, meng yao seems to take the suggestion well, so amami nods along with the explanation of the game. )

But yeah, that's pretty much it. Like, if I say:

I come from a big family,
I'm a pretty good cook, if I do say so myself,
And I've never left the country...

Which one is the lie?
filialdeception: (2)

[personal profile] filialdeception 2021-06-14 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
It does.

[ Meng Yao paused, as he considered his answer, because he'll assume the other wanted him to do so even for just a little fun trial run. This was the first time they've met, though...he approached this like he did other things and subjects:

Meticulously and thoughtfully. Traditionally, Meng Yao would assume most people wouldn't go for the second statement as the lie, so it may be that was the lie. ]

Pardon if I sound rude and boldness in my guess, since I assume you'll be wanting me to play along, right? But perhaps in this instance you being a good cook might be a lie?
sisters: (pic♯14899095)

[personal profile] sisters 2021-06-20 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
( so very, very close. it very nearly was the second statement, but with how things turned out... )

Not quite — the lie was the third one. Traveling is kind of a hobby of mine, and I've picked up a few recipes from different places along the way, so I guess you could say that the two are related.

( amami looks pretty unbothered by the assumption, mind you. his smile just as warm as he motions with his hand as if to illustrate the movement part of his travels. )

Oh.

[ Meng Yao looked a touch embarrassed, and he hesitated, wondering if he should apologize because he was wrong. What if he made him angry and he didn't know it? He shook himself internally, saying it'll be fine...Amami didn't look bothered, after all.

But sometimes people who were truly bothered hid it. He tossed the thought out again, convincing himself that Amami was still friendly towards him. ]

This one has been humbled by your answer. It's also easy to imagine you travelling, even if I've never seen you do so.

[ He'll look a touch sheepish, even, because he realized that despite his little moment, it was a little fun. He got to know more about the other. ]

Do you...do you mind if I give you a selection as well? Of two truths and a lie, so that I can be certain I understand this game?
sisters: (Default)

[personal profile] sisters 2021-06-25 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's fine — I mean, I wouldn't have offered to play if I wasn't going to give you a turn.

( this one's the serious type, isn't he? at the same time, he seems to be trying hard — looking forward to his turn in a way despite the bit embarrassment that colours his reaction, and amami's glad for that much. it hardly seems like the way to go to call him out on the fact when he's already hesitating, so he'll just cross his fingers that continuing to be friendly about it will be enough encouragement to put the other at ease. )

It sounds like you've got the idea. Oh, hope you don't mind if I get it wrong, though.

( since apparently they're a bit concerned about that. )
