May mini-mini-event

05/31 16:00

The student council elections take place after class on Monday, with students instructed to gather in the auditorium for the assembly. Attendance is not mandatory, but once students enter the auditorium and take their seats with the rest of their homeroom, they will find that they are not able to speak or get up from their seats. There are no teachers present.

Fifteen minutes past the hour, the doors to the auditorium close and the assembly commences, with the current student body president Maya Arisu stepping up to the podium, obligatorily thanking everybody for coming, and briefly going over the agenda: the student council candidates, sitting in a neat row behind her at the back of the stage, are to first introduce themselves to the student body, after which the candidates will make a case for why they would best serve the student body. As each person comes up to the podium, a projector shines on the white screen behind the stage with an image of the student's profile, displaying their full name, homeroom, blood type, handedness, club membership and leadership roles, current grades, and current merit points. Those in the student council are held to high standards, be it scholastic achievement as exemplified by grades or club participation, or eloquence or bravado if they have nothing else going for them but talk big anyways, like the current candidate in the middle of a passionate speech concerning the atrocity that is Ishimaru's eyebrows, like, do you really want that to be the face of the student body--

The mic cuts off and Maya drops the end of the power cord before striding up to the center of the stage, staring at the candidate to get out of her way or risk a broken foot.

"I'm going to stop wasting your time," she says, voice quiet but at the same time clear and audible in the hush of the room. "The qualities I'm looking for in a member of our council isn't intelligence or diligence or kindness. Who the person is matters the most: what they do and how they think."

She turns around, facing the candidates, looking at each of them in turn. "We will be testing your character. Follow me."

One by one, the student council candidates rise to their feet and file out of the auditorium after Maya, stiff and robotic, almost as if they have no control over their bodies as she leads them out the door. The moment the last candidate leaves the auditorium, the spell binding everybody's limbs and voices breaks, students jumping to their feet to push and shove each other out of the way in their excitement to leave-- not to go home, but to crowd around the windows surrounding the courtyard, or to race each other to the higher floors to claim the windows with the best views:

Out in the courtyard, the student council candidates line up against the side of the school. Facing them, in a half circle in front of the wisteria tree, are several familiar faces, each with a dagger in hand, a stagger to their steps, yellow in their eyes, and wild animalistic abandon in the way they lunge at the student council candidates.

The sun is bright overhead. Blood spills and soaks into the ground. The school stays true and does not turn.

OOC

✽ Happy Execution Day! For those unfamiliar with how murdergame executions work, the initial top-level is reserved for Ishimaru and Madison to fight to the death, while the rest of the post is free for characters to post reactions as well as to play out the aftermath.
✽ As a general guideline, the dropped characters look the same as originally, aside from yellow eyes, and the way they move is haltingly, as if they're resisting the compulsion to murder. It is a compulsion, though! So if both Ishimaru and Madison refuse to fight each other, they'll just get stabbed by somebody else.
✽ The execution will end once there is only one person left, after which the door will allow them back inside the school. Before then, the doors and windows are locked, and trying to escape the courtyard will result in loss of consciousness, with enough warning to turn back. The moment there is one survivor left, the npc students go home, as the position is won by default. Congrats! Hope it was worth it.

( komaeda's practically ignoring him at the rate, too focused on ishimaru as he brings them closer to the window. ishimaru has killed the girl at the bottom, and he's already in his feelings free for them to see, and komaeda shakes the "youth" in his arm so that he can get his attention. )

Look! Isn't that beautiful, the sort of hope to overcome a disaster such as death...

( to someone who wasn't even an ultimate, it was meant to be like this anyway. he can't feel when add touches his arm, but its got him locked in place so he's unable to get out. that's the only strong part of komaeda's body aside from his mind —

well... )

Hm...? Are you afraid of heights...? Ah... Sorry... but I don't want you to miss this.

Height isn't an issue. I didn't permit you to touch me.

[and now he's ignoring Ishimaru's "hope" out of spite... sorry Ishimaru, he refuses to acknowledge your hard-earned victory if it means giving any satisfaction to this guy.]

If you don't put me down, I will remove your arm. [the metal parts must remain undamaged but that doesn't mean he can't go for the flesh it's connected to......]

You don't have to do that... I can remove it myself.

( he knows what add means, he's just acting like he doesn't, which he'll show by dropping him on the floor without a second thought. at least he finally let him down? whether add hits the ground with a thump or falls on his four cat legs is up to you, but komaeda's keep his eye on ishimaru as he rolls up the tattered sleeve of his jacket, exposing how even the prosthetic takes up a bit of his forearm. it's split into two colors — black and white — and whoever made it put a lot of work in detail into it's design, it seems very simple, but the inside is where all the goodies are located. )

But I don't want to miss the show, it's not everyday you can see an Ultimate do this clearly.

[He attempts to catch himself, but he's used to being able to levitate so instead he just faceplants onto the floor. He may be an angry cat at heart but he doesn't quite have the dexterity, alas. He hauls himself back onto his feet, refusing any assistance.

... and, well, predictably his anger evaporates again once he gets a look at Komaeda's unsleeved arm. Ah... is he actually offering it for real? Add wants to touch it, he hasn't really had the chance yet and it looks interesting... if he waits, will Komaeda show him how to remove it? Will he let him hold it?

That little fantasy is enough to make Add show some patience, anyway, so he glances over at the window briefly to see what Ishimaru's up to. Sure is a dead Mads down there huh. He sighs, eyes back on the guy attached to the metal arm.]

I still don't see what's so "ultimate" about it... even mindless beasts know when to fight for their lives. All this proves is that the other insect was weaker, that's all.

It's his hope that drives him to do this, and that's what he's gained from becoming an Ultimate.

( there's no one who can beat an ultimate in their respective field, and that's why they're called "ultimates." anyone who was selected by hope's peak would know this, so he doesn't blame add for what he doesn't know. it's hard trying to teach other's the benefits that ultimates can bring them if they aren't able to see it for themselves, so wouldn't add being mesmerized by ishimaru's efforts be more than enough? well, it doesn't seem to be as important to him like it is to komaeda as he watches how add stares at his arm curiously. )

Besides, there's no one else better in his talent... isn't that extraordinary?

( while komaeda knows that he shouldn't just give his arm to anyone, he doesn't think the other will cause much harm. besides, he seems too fixated on it to do anything bad — that's how komaeda is going about this. so there's a few areas he's flipping up a panel to check something. between the circuits connecting to the various chips...? komaeda guesses that's what they are, he doesn't know... it takes him a bit before there's a soft clicking sound, probably confirming that it's detached from his body. )

The Ultimate Mechanic made this... Would you like to see?

... You're still not making any sense. [seriously komaeda, not everyone knows your ding-dang rolly rompus terminology!!!!!!

but it's fine, since he's being presented with a cool prosthetic arm and that's really all it takes to pacify Add. He's been trying so hard to be patient, remembering his years of training for once, but when he hears that click he can't help himself anymore and just reaches over to touch the arm. He will take it right off Komaeda's body if given the opportunity, but he'll settle for poking at the panel and trying to see inside it better if Komaeda insists on holding onto it. If not—his arm now.]

... design is completely different from a Nasod's. Materials appear high quality, craftsmanship is... acceptable... hmmm. [he's going to mess with the fingers a bit now, testing out the joints. it's like they're holding hands!!]

An "ultimate" mechanic... kuku, I suppose they can't be too much of an amateur if they could keep me interested. Tell me more about that one instead of the idiot flailing a knife around.

( it doesn't take that much effort to pull it out from inside komaeda's sleeve, the fabric hanging by his side, and so whatever's left of his arm isn't visible. sometimes komaeda's a victim to phantom pains and movement, while he lacks a left arm now, he can feel his fingers — or so he thinks. he understands that it's the nerves in his arms making him think so, but it never stops him from trying. if he hadn't cut off his arm that day, he knows that he'd live an almost perfectly, normal life, but that bad luck gave him good instead. he watches how the other plays with the device in interest, and if komaeda didn't have this arm, he doubts there'd be any conversation.

his thoughts are short-lived once he hears the other's muttering, and with a curious, open-mouthed expression he's ready to ask. )

What did you say?

( he asks, unfamiliar with the term as he watches him inspect the material. with his time around soda, he doesn't recall that phrase, but he guesses it had nothing to do with him. with his right arm, he points at the appendage as he tries to think back on the ultimate mechanic. komaeda's not too picky about what ultimate he talks about, and while they may not be proper symbols of hope, he's still an ultimate worthy of komaeda's praise. he thinks back to the individual who wears their heart on their sleeve, and very open to showing his emotions which switch between desperation and fear. try with all his might in his attempt to appear cool to the ladies, he's too much of wimp to keep it together, and easy to lose faith in people if there's a slim chance they could be a threat to him. komaeda nods in thought, ah yes, he also cries. )

Ah... the Ultimate Mechanic has great attention to detail... he's very trustworthy when it comes to this sort of stuff. He even made a replica of a friend who was used to elevate the amount of despair they felt... out of his own body parts.

( or so he heard, he wasn't there for the information, but it's not like soda's efforts are bragged by himself on random occassions. )

That sort of work ethic is rare to come by, isn't it?

Out of his own body parts? [like... human body parts?? that doesn't seem like mechanic-work though. is this person he replicated also a machine??] Interesting... a skill like that could be useful. [imagine... if he could make a tiny copy of Eve. Ah.

—but he's going to get distracted again if he starts thinking about that now. He shakes his head, hugging the metal arm to his chest.]

Engineers, mechanics... people who work with machines are rare in my world. You could say it's something of a lost art.

If there's an "Ultimate Mechanic", is there also an "Ultimate Machine"?
