mise picked for me

This post serves as a place for me to gather all of Amami's closed threads, starters, and miscellany through the month. If you want to set something up, I can be reached by PM or at

A knock at the door makes her eyes fly wide, interrupting that thought. Her posture stiffens just a shade, and the atmosphere sours. Great. If Rantaro’s come here to see her, it’s not because he wants to say hi; it’s because he’s sick or hurt—sometimes even both—and he wants her to do something about it. Case in point, he’s nursing his stomach like whatever he had for lunch is disagreeing with him.
Oh, well. After a day like today, what’s one more patient? ]
Well, hello there, Amami-san.
[ She turns in her chair to face him, her smile so wide, it’s a wonder it hasn’t split her face in two. ]
To what do I owe the pleasure?

when she offers a smile that feels just a bit too happy to see him in this state, amami will return it with a softer one of his own. )
Kochou-san, sorry. I'm not interrupting, am I?
( lifting up one hand in a wave while the other arm remains wrapped around his lower ribs, he... doesn't actually wait for an answer before stepping inside, making his way over. )
I was hoping you wouldn't mind doing a quick check-up.

I have time to take a look at you. Take a seat, please.
[ She pulls out the chair next to her desk and pats its bottom. It’s a test: can he even sit in the condition he’s in? ]
What seems to be the matter?

It's... kind of a long story, actually, but I had a bit of a fall earlier. I just wanted to be sure it's nothing serious, is all.
( ma'am, he just wants to know he won't be dead by morning when the infirmary opens and he'll be out of your hair. )

A ‘bit of a fall’?
[ She looks him up and down for anything that stands out as immediately wrong. Her keen eye does not miss the way he struggles to take his seat, nor does she miss the way his smile falters. From his stoic refusal to show pain, she wagers his injuries are much, much worse than he’s letting on. ]
And how far did you fall exactly, Amami-san?
no subject
( to be honest, it takes him a bit of thought. bringing a hand to his chin, he glances off to the side to avoid her gaze, thinking it through. lets see, it looked like a bit of a drop, but it was over pretty quick too. he hadn't really given much thought to the distance he'd fallen either, given the state he'd been in after the fact. so with a pause for him to think through it, the conclusion he reaches? )
Uh, well I don't think it was a full story.
( which is to say, it still must have been pretty far. enough for concern, and about as well as he can really define it without getting into the event itself. but still framed so that maybe, if it's not that much, it doesn't sound as bad. )

[ How far Rantaro fell, where he fell, and why he was ever in such a dangerous position to begin with, Shinobu doesn’t know. She doesn’t think she’ll ever find out, either, because he’s dedicated to maintaining this air of mystery and secrets about him. He’d let his injuries do him in before he told her anything.
Concern cuts a tense line across her forehead. How is she supposed to take care of a patient who won’t be upfront with her about his condition? ]
If you won’t tell me what happened, will you at least allow me to examine you properly?
no subject
( but it doesn't seem like one he's too keen on correcting at the moment either, as he doesn't offer anything more to flesh out the situation. )
But yeah, that's fine. What do you need me to do?
( whether it's lifting his arms up and watching him wince as she prods at him, or actually showing her his new collection of bruises, it's the least he can do when he won't elaborate on the technicalities of what happened. even a doctor can't help you if you don't give them anything to work with, right? )

[ Rantaro’s shirt gets a pointed glare, like she’s trying to bore holes through it for a better look at the injuries that lie underneath. Unfortunately, shooting laser beams from her eyes is not something Shinobu is able to do, so his shirt remains hole-free and in one piece. ]
That means I’ll be looking at what you have hiding beneath your shirt first. Would you be so kind?
[ Off with it! ]

( he gets it, he gets it — there's a wince as he pulls the fabric over his head, but he'll get both layers out of the way so that shinobu can get a good look. and, well, while it's a pretty nice view, it's marred by some pretty nasty looking bruises that are forming mostly around the sides — his back, too, if she bothers to check that. )
The worst part is probably around here.
( and he'll place his hand around an area to his left side, where he's probably cracked, like, 1d6 of his ribs. )

As she lays her hands along his ribcage, her gaze flits up to gauge his reaction. Is she hurting him? ]
Tell me, Amami-san: have you been having trouble breathing since you fell?
cryyin, your powerful roll
Sort of.
( not in the sense that he can't, but he won't deny the fact that too much is pretty painful. )
Would it help if I took a deep breath now?
( giving clear descriptions is a bit more difficult for him, given his usual habits, but he knows that she needs to understand the extent of it to make a proper assessment. much like with the bruises, it might be better to just show her. )

No, it’s alright. That won’t be necessary.
It seems several of your ribs are fractured. The healing process will be a slow and painful one, so if you need help managing it, I recommend using some of the frozen food from the home economics classroom as a cold pack. The nurse might be able to provide you with something you can take orally, too.
[ Trying to get him to agree to look after himself feels like it’d be an exercise in futility, so rather than waste her breath, she flashes him a smile. It’s a warning, a threat: if she catches him doing anything strenuous or dodging bedrest, there will be consequences. ]
Now, is there anything else you’d like to tell me about? Or shall I go searching for your other injuries myself?
