let out a sigh for another day ( OPEN TO ALL )
WHO: Nene and You !
WHAT: Nene Yashiro explores a bit !
WHEN: Over Spring Break
[ This isn't the first time Nene has found herself in a strange place. But even that had been at Kamome, with school grounds she was familiar with, knew all too well even before she met Hanako-kun... and she had everyone she knew and loved at hand. Things were strange, yes, but she wasn't alone in unfamiliar territory. She didn't know anything about this school, save for scraps that made almost no sense.
But she's here. She's here, and she can't call on Hanako-kun to save her. ... She never did like being the princess in the tower, though. So throughout the break you may find her various places.
You might find her at Class 1-B, examining her own desk- or what she remembers to be her desk?- or other things. Maybe the teacher left something at their own desk! Or maybe she's glaring at spring break homework that has the audacity to exist. She's been working on it, she just is mad that it's there.
You may find her in the home economics room... or rather, rooms. If she's not going over sewing supplies- and stumbling over an odd coin hidden in a pin cushion?- then she's in the cooking room, looking over leftover ingredients and recipes. ]
Oh- I thought that I might be able to make something for us to eat... we can't just live on vending machine snacks.
[ There's only basic ingredients... but it's definitely workable!
Other times, you may find her in the Clock Tower. Admittedly, there's nothing to do there, not really. But she can see the outside. The sky feels wistfully far away, and the boarded up building and broken fencing are... suspicious. But there's not much she can do about it. All she can do is watch the outside world go by.
Between any of these moments, Nene is exploring less conventional places. Maybe it looks like she's just looking around... and technically, she is! But in her defense, she's been watching the hidden supernatural world for months now. The fact that it's suddenly gone... it can't be, right? The mokke have to just be hiding. They're probably scared too. Right? ]

Oh- I thought that I might be able to make something for us to eat... we can't just live on vending machine snacks.

Well that's not right. What if someone did that to them?
[ It sounds so simple, her worldview. Maybe even a bit childish. Naïve? Probably. But she stands by it, even now. Maybe especially now, in this strange place with false memories and no one being where they belonged and no way out. Kindness went a long ways. So when he asks, she shakes her head. ]
You don't have to do anything. Maybe pay it forward to others who need help? But I don't do things to be repaid.
[ (Hanako-kun would probably be yelling at her for this.) ]
no subject
Are you in charge of this room?
( the tools are needed for a later date, but it's brought upon this lucky opportunity to meet with someone. he hasn't turned his nose up at her yet — he's not the best around non-talented people, but like everyone else here he does want to test her hope. )
I could help you clean, it's one thing I'm good at..
( perhaps this can be his in, he does notice her organizing things properly from where he's standing. besides, when they first came here, all they wanted was for people to clean, remove unknown substances from the floor and walls. besides, he wonders if there's something hidden in here, and if she frequents this spot then she would know about any irregularities. )

But I will be teaching one of our... classmates to sew. You might have seen her? She's probably the youngest one here.
[ Stephanie was ten, much too young for high school. And... had she seen a puppy, earlier? What the heck, school administration. You're going to get so many complaints! Especially from Ishimaru, she gets the feeling he was not joking at all, and will be launching so many. ]
But didn't you have something you wanted to do? [ And she's genuinely concerned, honestly. ]
no subject
( he laughs softly, crossing his arms as he offers the prospect of that idea to her. he doesn't see why she wouldn't take the role of being the area's representative, students her age do that all the time. of course, he doesn't believe anyone will actually listen to the teachers when they come back, isn't it more trustworthy if they can believe a fellow friend if they were in charge? )
Oh.. ( he looks to the side, he hasn't, or maybe he has.. his brain isn't too good. he could stand here and wraggle his brain for information, but he just can't help moving from one topic to another. ) I don't think I have... like I said, not too many people want to be around me, so I've been avoid..
( odd considering everyone's trying to figure what the ins and outs of this school is, but i digress. ) But you could introduce me to them one day, if that's not too much to ask.
( he pauses, thinking about her question as he raises up his mechanical hand so that she can see. ) Yeah, but it hasn't fallen off yet! I have all the time in the world to go to the workshop, unless you're interested about what's inside? Haha, are you scared to go alone?
no subject
[ It's not like everyone's going to go Lord of the Flies on each other during the break, right? It's... not a good two weeks, but it's still only two weeks, and everyone she's met has been kind to one another. ]
Stephanie's a very sweet girl. I don't think she'd avoid anybody, but it's possible you just haven't seen her. I'd be happy to, though!
[ And then he shows her his hand and makes a flippant remark of it not falling off yet and oh boy she was not prepared for this! She's a bit wide-eyed at the thought. ]
It's- not that, but I have no experience with most tools... unless they're for gardening, I mean. I wouldn't know what I was looking at...
no subject
( that said, her response is enough for him to make his decision that she knows nothing about any secrets in here. it's all still a mystery, and while that makes things even harder for them, it makes the situation more fun. what that means is that he'll have to investigate this room later without any eye witnesses — he doesn't want everyone knowing his ins and outs into the various rooms. )
I have bad luck —
( that sometimes works as good luck, but it seems it must have started working against him considering he hasn't met her companion. with that said.. ) That's probably why I haven't. ( the truth of the matter is that he hasn't made his rounds in terrorizing everyone yet. )
I'm in the same boat as you, I'm not smart enough to understand them, but I have to keep up a maintenance check ( as he says that, he looks at the hand he's mentioning. it doesn't have a visible problem, and it's practically in good condition, he's just selling himself off as someone who is mindful about taking care of themselves.. commentary to appear trusting. ) so.. we could learn together.
( but.. )
I really mean it when I say I'm unlucky.
no subject
[ Oh, honey.
She listens with sympathy, but isn't quite sure what to say. In truth, she wasn't sure how she felt about 'luck' as a concept, especially after learning that fate was a very real thing- that only one person in all of Kamome was ever able to defy, at that.
(Her heart aches.)
...Did the time in this school count towards-
But then he mentions maintenance and glances at his hand and look, she's. She's not the brightest bulb in the set sometimes but she's not stupid. ]
Oh... we might be able to work something out, but I can also ask around for people who might be able to help too. [ Despite her concern, she does give him a reassuring smile. ] We can go together. Just let me put this back!
no subject
until she mentions a name that makes his eyes sparkle. )
Ishimaru-kun? Wow, you know him too! Isn't he the best..!!
( he is the best, a concept of hope lodged in komaeda's mind that he adores. though the way he speaks almost sounds as if he's known the man forever — kirakira, a warm smile that seems trustworthy. )
I respect him! I don't know about his murderous friends though.. their hope was pretty weak compared to his.
( now he sounds disappointed — is it because if them being killers or is it because their hope was weak? too bad he's not going to stay on the subject as he walks closer to nene, peeking to see what she's putting away. )
I'm unsure of your hope... but your kindness is paramount, I feel like I can leave my arm in your care.
no subject
I... I'm sorry? I don't know what you're talking about.
[ That's for the best, actually, but she's probably shooting that little bit of peace of mind in the foot right now. And... her hope? What? Something tells her she probably shouldn't volunteer too much personal information.
Especially since he's just appointed her his mechanic? Oh no. ]
Um- I-I'll do my best, but I want your arm to be okay, and I'm really clumsy...
[ Oh honey, no. ]
no subject
( can nene's death be counted as a stepping stone towards hope? it's too early to say considering how this school works, but from what he can tell on his own is that she's interesting enough. especially by her reply, it's not a phrase that asks to know the entire story, but it does show her confusion on the matter. )
Just remind me later, and I'll tell you everything.
( with that said, he can't help but chuckle at her response about his arm. he stares down at it, metal digits squeezing into a fist and then opening slowly — he doesn't mind if she's clumsy, besides, his arm will never be okay again after what he's done. )
Don't worry about that Miss, what's the worst that could happen? ( at the same time, it seems like a ball of yarn has casually started to roll off a table nearby, falling onto the floor without being seen. is it slowly making it's way towards nene? well.... ) Besides, I doubt anything bad will become of you.
no subject
I'm more worried about accidentally damaging your arm- I'd never forgive myself if I hurt you.
[ Or anyone, really. She wants to live a good, happy life- successful but peaceful and full of love and joy. She's a bit simple like that. ]
no subject
Hey.. if you did hurt me, wouldn't that make you stronger?
( he inquires with a raised brow, it appears to be like he's thinking about it. nene is kind, he can tell from how she speaks about the people around her — selfishness doesn't seem to be her key trait. komaeda has been around people her age, and they were rash — terrorizing, and unlike them, she wants peace. though, he can't blame how they went about their means, and how nene will go about hers. )
What I mean is: if something happened, you'd do everything in your power to avoid it from happening again! So, your hope will shine brighter than before, so if anything happens to me, I don't blame you at all, Miss.
( it's because when he thinks about it, her hope is different from some of the people he's passed by here. )
no subject
[ Even if she does have to break the yorishiro when Hanako calls on her for help with the spirits lashing out- their most prized possessions. For a moment she's quiet, before sighing. ]
I'm sorry, I must have made you uncomfortable, jumping to the worst conclusion... Maybe there'll be someone who knows what the stuff in the workshop is for!
[ And hey, she's unoccupied now so they can go investigate! Isn't that lovely? When he's ready to leave, she's ready to as well, able to point out which door is the one to go for. ]
no subject
No. ( he uses his mechanical arm to wave off her comment, the attachment whirring softly as he does. that's normal. ) I was actually thinking you're pretty cool. ( now will he be able to change her mind on how hurting others will help her grow? maybe one day, but not right now. )
It'd be for the best to have someone knowledgeable, so if anything goes wrong.. we won't have to worry.. ( he's already walking towards the exit, and makes sure to push open the door so that nene can walk out. )
Ladies first!
no subject
[ With a joke curtsy, Nene enters the hallway and immediately leads the way to the workshop. She's sure Komaeda will close the door behind him, he's been polite! When... he's... not going off about murder. Quietly, she opens the door to the workshop with a quiet slide and... oh! Well there's a relief. There's someone already there- and she knows him! ]
Ishigami-san! Hi!
no subject
Turns out his luck was changing for the better, slightly, as he hears someone call out for him. ]
Oh? Ah, hey, Yashiro-san. [ He takes a look at who walks in with her. ] And you must be Komaeda-san, correct? I think I've seen you around school. [ As far as he knows, at least. He's got the student roster committed to memory. ]
So, what brings you two here?
no subject
( he mirrors nene's enthusiasm in tone, smiling softly as his mechanical raises first with a whir, and he waves it from left to right. he travels behind the shorter female, matching her pace until they come to a complete stop at the workshop. )
Yashiro-san ( no longer miss, the character development. ) and I met by complete luck today — don't you think that's good? ( komaeda's life has always been toyed with by his luck, and so the way he views life comes down to a simple: this is "good luck," and this is "bad luck". if they're willing to put up with him then it helps solidify the idea of what sort of luck this is. )
Even better, because you're here!
no subject
It'd be good to at least be familiar with the tools though, right?
[ Though she doesn't go to investigate, not really. Instead she slides into a stool at the work table, letting her feet dangle. ... She's just short. It's fine. ]
What are you doing?
no subject
[ He eyes the mechanical arm for a moment, listening to it whir as they tell him about the situation. ]
Ah, I see- yeah, can't hurt to familiarize yourself with everything. Not too many heavy-duty tools here. Just screws, nails, and the regular suspects, from what I can see though. They mostly use wood in this class. Still, that won't stop me; can I take a closer look at your arm?
[ Finally, something to tinker a bit with! He was getting a bit antsy while stuck in this school- the Science Room not being open certainly didn't help, but he was determined to get in there eventually. ]
As for me, I've just been looking for different materials to use for my own ideas. If I can't get into the science room, I can at least mess around with my experiments in here.
no subject
Wow, Yashiro-san can garden! You should think about doing it within the school.
( he sounds happy as he holds out his arm for senku to look over, what he'll find is that the robotic prosthetic is white on the outer side and black on the underside, the palm is black, and the backs of his fingers are white along with the thumb as well. whoever put the time and effort in it did a really good job, outside and inside with the circuitry and it looks complicated considering the soft whirr it makes when komaeda moves his forearm and his fingers. he doubts this will stop senku though, considering if he's someone who's in this field of study, it should come easy to him. it's in really good shape and doesn't need anyone to look over it, but he's more concerned about the future and who can take care of it when he knows nothing about it. )
And.. I agree, Ishigami-kun, I'm also out of my element here.. and disliked by many others, so I'm trying to find where I fit in.
( we call this emotional manipulation, but he does it without realizing since it comes rather natural to him — being hated is the norm, so he believes everyone has negative feelings about him. ) ..But then I found Yashiro-san and she's been taking care of me, so.. I hope you can forgive trash like me for bothering you when you have better things to work on.
no subject
[ Quietly, Nene watches from her seat. The prosthetic is probably the most advanced she's ever seen, especially in person, and she knows nothing about how it would work- and he was hoping she'd be able to help him out with it?! Not that she's unwilling to learn. But with Senku there, maybe it'd be easier for all of them.
At his own self belittling, however, she frowns sharply. ]
You shouldn't talk about yourself like that. You aren't trash.
no subject
[ Senku starts doing a preliminary check on the arm, noting how well it's crafted, how the fingers bend with ease- he certainly wasn't going to find anything else like this in 90's Japan as far as he knows. It looks perfectly fine at the moment, and should anything happen to it, he's sure he could help fix it.
He frowns a bit as Komaeda speaks, and then nods, backing up Nene. ]
Yashiro-san's right- you have more worth than you might think at the moment. Everyone has things they're good at and not, you just have to find where the puzzle piece fits. You haven't given me any reason to dislike you, anyways.
[ He steps back a bit with a smile, finished looking over the arm. ]
Well, it looks good to me at the moment- in perfect shape. I should be able to help maintain it if anything happens to it in the future.
no subject
( especially when he's just bottom of the barrel garbage that's here to help encourage their hope, especially if they seemed walled by something. for now, they're both just like his arm — perfectly fine, so he has no reason to do anything strange. instead, he figures this would be a great time to perhaps dig a little deeper into these two — there's not much he knows about them, and this is a good time as any, he believes. )
It's meaningless when you both should be the ones told nice things about... speaking of which, Yashiro-san, you said you had sewing classes? I think you should have a cooking ones too.
( especially if those are two fields that she's great in, and talking like this also works in his favor, he's able to take the attention off himself. from one person to another, once he's given his thoughts to nene, his eyes move towards senku as he laughs softly before speaking. ) Thank you, if it wasn't for Yashiro-san, I wouldn't have met someone who's actually capable in this field of expertise.
( with this said, he's flexing his arm in and out so that the soft whirr is audible. ) I should ask... do you both frequent these areas? ( just in case he needs to find them for later.... you never know. )
no subject
Ah- m-maybe. I think... that'd be safer if there was more ingredients to work from. ( it's a rapidly decreasing commodity, and to use so much for efforts that might not come out edible... no. absolutely not. nene shakes her head with what might feel like an uncharacteristic sternness. ) It wouldn't be a good idea right now.
( oblivious to komaeda's intent, after a moment of thought, however, she shrugs. )
Sometimes. It's... the most familiar, to me. But I think if I made myself stay in just one area, I'd go even more stir crazy. ... I like the clocktower. You can see a wisteria tree from it...
( and it's a good place to sit down and be sad. but also to think about what's being denied to them- a motivator. )
