hits u with one last tag so that we all know how this ends...
Being taken by the ghosts is no way to leave this world, even if Hyde has already left it. Noah has always been a bit of a bleeding-heart. It's unfair for Hyde to disappear here, where no one will know; Noah will own up to the fight, even though he knows it'll land him in hot water, that no one will be able to look him in the eye again, maybe not even Clamor...
He could just leave Hyde here and pretend nothing happened, but the guilt would kill him faster than anything else possibly could. He has no idea that Hyde will simply vanish into golden light; to him, Hyde is as human as anyone else here.
Noah drapes Hyde's arm over his shoulder, the overuse of his magic from earlier straining him so severely that he can barely move β well, that in tandem with the injuries he's already sustained β and he drags the two of them toward the nearest mirror. Unfortunately for Noah, or perhaps fortunately, he's been to void school far too many times, and he knows exactly how to dodge around the shadows, but...
But he's weak, bleeding out, and were it not for the fact that he's literally dragging the corpse of someone who didn't need to die via being mangled by shadowy spears out with him, Noah thinks the figures might be coming for him entirely.
Hyde wouldn't have done you the same courtesy, Noah's mind screams, but he carries on, manifesting what little magic he can to keep any silhouettes that get too close at bay. Every cell in his body screams and begs for him to stop, he's on fire, it hurtsβ
Somehow, he makes it, barely standing by the time he gets to the mirror, forcing Hyde's already-cold hand through it before he follows suit.
Outside of the void, his injuries aren't maintained, but he still feels cold and numb, he can still feel the knife wound in his side even if it's no longer there. They're where the original confrontation started in the hallway late at night, where Noah had briefly shouted when he was cut. Had someone heard, he wonders, once he has time to wonder? Once he has time to catch up with all the feelings he'd repressed in the interest of keeping Hyde from being dragged away, Noah turns toward where Hyde is, and...
...watches in pained awe as the man turns to wisps before his eyes.
That's when he breaks down. That's when the dam breaks and everything comes flooding out, tears flowing freely as Noah sinks against the wall.
He's not a killer. Well, he's not supposed to be. The only person he'd ever wanted to kill, the doppelganger that stole Harque's identity, is back home. Everything else he'd ever done had always been for survival, as much as Noah talks up vengeance β on Elrios, he didn't even have the heart to kill the Henir mutants since they were formerly people, and it was not him who struck the killing blow against the woman who created them all. No, in fact, he had just wanted to turn her in to her family, to let them pass judgement, judgement which truthfully was never his to pass.
He hates the Order. He hates people who use others to gain advantages. He hates ruthless killers. Yet...
Noah presses a hand to the cut on his arm that had sent them here, pain from everything else he'd experienced making him dizzy. He can't see through his tears anymore, and he curls into himself, feeling impossibly small. Perhaps it should've been him in the end. People were always better off without Noah anyway. If they hadn't met, would Hyde still be alive? And... Jekyll, for that matter.
Two lives for Noah's.
It's so, so unfair.
He stands with the intent to find Clamor, to tell him what happened β because if anyone needs to know first, it's his friend, his partner, the only family member he has left β but the searing pain gets to him first. Thus does Noah collapse in the middle of the hallway, a single cut on his arm being all that remains of Hyde's legacy.]
