Um, Ishimaru-sempai?

[ Ishimaru is a pretty hard guy to get a hold of, with how busy he is. Helping out with the host club planning has given Sara a bit of time alone with him. Maybe she could have said it before but what she's going to ask, its a bit selfish isn't it? A lot happened in June, and somehow July just feels like waiting for the other shoe to drop after that business with the baby project. She doesn't want to put any more on his plate but ever since she heard a certain rumor she has had only one thought on her mind. On afternoon, between paperwork runs, she finally sees him alone in the hall and makes up her mind. No matter what...no matter how many murders or how much suffering she she's...she really wants to do kendo right now! ]

This might be a bit embarrassing to ask...but I heard someone say you had a kendo sword?

[Especially these past few days, he's had a lot going on - and been more reclusive on top of that. Between burying Chihiro and trying to settle things there, on top of the planning for the charity event... it was A Lot.

He comes to a stop when he's approached.]

Ah, hello there! Chidouin-kun, correct? [He greets her with a weak smile.] Well yes, you have heard correctly. I found my kendo sword just the other month. Ever since then, I've been trying to get back into the habit of practicing again. [Especially when he might need to defend himself here.] Why do you ask?

Yeah, Sempai can just call me Sara if he wants. I don't really like skirting around formalities after I've met people. [ She's being all nice with this sempai thing for now, but thats because he's on the student council and she wants his sword. The sooner she can get around to just calling him his first name the better. ]

B....because! [ She clenches her hands into fists. ] I haven't done kendo since middle school and I miss it! Running around inside a building without any sports or clubs is driving me crazy. [She hadn't been in any clubs back home but she'd kept an active life...well until she got that stalker anyway. This was worse. Being stuck inside any longer was going to make her start climbing out windows. ]

So...I was going to ask if I could borrow Ishimaru-sempai's sword...just so I could mess around in the courtyard or something.

But formalities are such a strong building block of polite conversation! [A beat.] I- I will do my best to respect your wishes! I will not raise any protests to referring to me in an informal manner, of course.

[He hears her out and is quickly gripped by her plight! It also helps that he wants to help anyone that he can with their problems, after everything that's gone wrong.]

I see! It is a shame to go so long without such a disciplined activity in your life. I am sorry your had to endure that! I understand what you mean. Students here need more stimulation!

[He claps his hands together in determination.]

Consider it settled! I will gladly lend you the use of my kendo sword for some practice. ...Or even better, we can practice together! [It has been hard for him to practice all by himself. In the absence of an instructor, perhaps between the two of them, they can make a full lesson!]

Formal conversation is a drag! [ Another beat. She'd spent the first year of high school trying to be more polite, but ah someone had told her that he liked to see her be so blunt right? So it was fine.] Thank you very much!

..Haha...wow talking like this is sort of fun? Do you always make your sentences this short, Ishimaru-sempai? Or can I drop it to Ishimaru now?

[ Informal conversation achieved. ]

I'd love a practice buddy. Honestly, I'm a bit out of practice so please be patient. When are you next free?

I respectfully disagree entirely with that opinion! That aside, you are welcome! [He aims to be a model member of society, and that means being polite and respectful all the time!]

Ah, but, yes it is alright if you wish to call me that. Do you as you wish! [Even if he feels proud to be referred to as a sempai!]

So you are agreeable with my idea. That's quite good! As a matter of fact, I have some time to kill right now while someone else is working on paperwork. Let me just retrieve my kendo sword, and we should have enough time for our first refresher lesson!

Hm...then I disagree to your disagreement but also respectfully.

[ You're still a sempai even if Sara is rude and doesn't really like honorifics! ]

Oh, thats amazing? Let me go put my jacket away. [ She doesn't have any...really good clothes to practice in but at least she's going to keep her jacket clean. ] I'll meet you in the courtyard in ten minutes?

I do respect you disagreeing with my disagreement respectfully, though of course I still respectfully disagree with your original opinion!

[He manages a weak smile and claps his hands together.]

Splendid! That should be enough time to get my kendo sword and prepare myself. I shall see you there!

[And sure enough, Ishimaru will be there in less than ten minutes, doing some warm-up stretches with the kendo sword on the ground by his side!]

[ Sara arrives about five minutes after Ishimaru, bursting out the door to the courtyard with a wave and a bottle of water for her and Ishimaru. ]

Hey Ishimaru, don't get started without me? [ She'll get She takes a stop by the sword, picking it up and balancing it as she looks over her shoulder at him. ] Oh, huh?

...This is a pretty high quality sword. How did you even get your hands on it here? [ It's a shame there's only one...maybe they can find a stick or something later. ]

Of course! I was just warming myself up for this.

[He stands up straight and watches as she looks over the sword.]

Why thank you! Believe it or not, this seems to be the exact same one that I held back home. I found it by the student council room just last month. I... could just tell that it was mine! [A light smile.] I suppose it's one of the few surprises at this place that have been of a pleasant nature.

Oh, so this school can actually do something right when it wants too...

[ Maybe a reward for some sort of action...? But what, the only thing this school seems to reward is murder and as far as Sara initially remembers Ishimaru hasn't murdered anyone (she ah...missed the election). ]

Ah, but the student council seems like it'd take up too much of my time...so I guess I just have to keep using this sword instead of searching there.

[ She takes a step back, giving him a smile. ]

Hm...where would you like to start with this practice, Senpai?

I do not wish to give this school any credit, but... I am pleased to have received this. [He can say that much, at the very least. But he is very quick to assure her of her decision.]

Yes, please do not consider joining the student council! With luck, I'm sure you will be obtain the kendo sword some other way. [Either through some strange discovery like him, or maybe they can arrange something with the school.]

In any given field, one should always start with the fundamentals and build up from there! So for starters, how about some simple warm-up exercises!

What do you think I'd be bad at it? [ She frowns a bit, because Sara is pretty good at paperwork! Just, you know. Better uses of her time, like napping after class or bothering Noah to do his homework. ]

Hm, I wonder if we could even make our own...would it be difficult? [ She doesn't know a thing about art. ]

Sure. [ Unless Ishimaru has any particular warmups in mind. Sara is personally going to start by practicing her footwork, and then ask for the sword so she can pratice drawing and holding the sword. She'll give it back after! ]

Of course not! I have faith in you and believe that you can do anything that you set your heart on, Sara-kun! [He glances downward.] ...But... the student council election is- is something that no student should have to endure!

[Then he tries to focus on the rest, with a thoughtful frown.]

...I do not know for sure. That is an interesting idea! Perhaps we can research how a kendo sword is made and see if we can manage it with our resources here.

[It could be tricky, but maybe it might be possible! Ishimaru watches as she goes through those exercises, while doing some more stretching himself. He hands over the kendo sword when she requests it and then accepts it back with a smile.]

Good! You are off to a good start. [He holds the sword back to her.] Would you like to practice some cuts next?
