give your friends a surprise
Who: EVERYONE
What: FAMILY MEETING
When: 8/4, right after school closes.
Where: Student council room
Warnings: Eventually, probably.
["If my friends back home were acting like this, I would've already locked them in a room and forced them to figure out their feelings."
the job puts all of her considerable superspy skills to the test. she knows where every normal kid's locker is; it's easy enough to slip the note into each that morning. if it's someone who she knows would be unable to read the note, she tells them its contents, but keeps her own involvement out of it. lies of omission don't count.
the note reads:]
I have very important information about this place. Please come to the student council room after school ends today.
- Nao Sato
[and if the text looks just a bit girlier than you'd think she'd write, hey, you don't know her. she's got layers.
either way, it's a pretty interesting proposition: the student council room door is, for the first time in seemingly ever, wide open. anyone can walk inside - and, hopefully, most everyone should. because it's only when Stephanie thinks that she's got enough of them inside that she actually enters the room, shutting the door behind her.
click.
it locks. she grins, spins the key on her finger, and slips it into her pocket.
"How are you supposed to do that with grownups?"
the exact same way, she's decided.]
We haven't had any meetings since, um. Well. The last one. But, I'm pretty sure nobody has no more murders to report, so it shouldn't be too bad, and we can all just focus on the most important task: Getting along! All of us are on the same team, but most of us barely even know each other; some of us even hate some of the others! [SHE SAYS, LIKE SHE DOESN'T ACTIVELY DESPISE KOKICHI] So, I figured we could spend the evening fixing that problem. Play some games, talk about stuff we've discovered since the last time...
And, maybe, if everybody does a really good job, I'll unlock the door!
[smiles]

Can I have it for a moment. I'll stay by your side.
( he looks at him with a small smile, there's not much he can do as long as he's next to shin, you know? )
no subject
What for, Komaeda? There's nothing here to burn.
[Or well, nothing here where burning will end well, as far as he can see.]
no subject
You're the only one with one, I'll give it back.
( he holds his hand out, waiting to see if the other is willing. if he's not, that's understandable, but he knows that if he doesn't ask, then he'll never know if it'll work in his favor or not. )
Nothing wrong will happen with you here!
no subject
That's not an answer... but here.
[The only one with one is, at least, information. He places it in Komaeda's hand with a deliberate lack of reluctance. He puts both hands in his jacket pockets.]
If anything wrong happens, that's on you. [Because telling him not to light someone on fire would be counterproductive, really.] Since you're the one holding it...
no subject
Let's go.
( he takes the lighter out of the other's hand, and with his mechanical arm he reaches out to grab shin by his scarf to pull him along. komaeda said that the other would be by his side when he goes to do things, so he's keeping that promise. now he's going to walk them towards the door, but will shin actually let him get that far?
you tell me! )
no subject
H-hey, isn't that locked?
[Stephanie was extremely confident there was no way out of here. Ironically that's probably part of why he's following along, even as he pulls an arm down on his scarf to try and yank it back to his side.]
no subject
( probably can't because it's the student council room, and nothing works on getting inside unless you have a key, you can't even use the crawlspaces. so lighting the door on fire is most likely not going to work, which komaeda isn't going to do yet until they're facing it. they have no one's attention on them for now (or he thinks so, who knows, stephanie's eyes are always watching). with a sigh, he'll try to open it, but seeing as it won't budge. )
But it could act against me, lighting up it and everyone else in here.
( he hums, releasing shin by the scarf that he adores sooo much. it's such a nice fabric, maybe komaeda should steal that next. ) Are you willing to risk everyone's lives to get out?
cw past toxic relationships again
Ahaha, aha, what kind of question is that?
[...it's so familiar he can only laugh at it. Have you heard of a thing called the trolley problem, Shin? Have you heard of majority votes? His eyes gleam with a touch of fever to them. He holds out his hand, the other on said scarf.]
Didn't I say it? Give the lighter back if you want me to make the choice.
[People like him... he's done thinking their actions are his fault. The scales of his mind are tipping against the side of his thoughts cautioning him.]
NOT AGAIN
( taking the lighter would put a stop to anything that komaeda would be up to, but shin did hand it over to him in the beginning while knowing komaeda's... faults. he's not escaping the blame of this, so he stares at the door with the lighter close, but he hasn't caused the flame to appear yet. is he waiting on something, or is he just making conversation to pass the time? whatever it is, he doesn't seem dangerous... yet. )
If so... you let that slip from your grasp moments ago, but now you'd have a chance to save them... to become a hero of the story, what do you think of that?
( a protagonist, nothing that komaeda can become no matter how hard he tries, but there's something about playing around to learn how people act, to understand what they'd do. honestly, he wants to see the hope that shin has for the students around them, if they gained enough of a bond that he'd put himself between them and him — but there's one thing for sure, komaeda would never cause problems like this without a reason. )
Hm... Tsukimi-kun~?
it just keeps happening
[He does have to think carefully here. He can't afford to not; he didn't miss the feeling of defusing a bomb and it's kind of making his brain marinate in it's own pickled juices a bit. Which is probably why this still seems funny. It's just all so... worthless.
According to Sara, even Midori feared death in the end.]
I think you might read too much manga, Komaeda-san.
[POT CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK, HERE. The use of his name gets a small twitch in his fingers, brushed past even though he knows the terror of death himself.]
It's just a lighter, after all. [He knows there's people here with powers and maybe Komaeda could actually light up an entire room with it, but that's not the point of saying it, really.]
shin has gotta stop this i feel his fear and komaeda eats off of it
the catch is that, no one needs to understand komaeda.
though, it does make him wonder what manga he's read, or is it silly to be a protagonist? hinata was one, he did his job well, if komaeda didn't tease him... maybe he could have became one too. he could have prevented his own death to help everyone else, but as shin says... that's probably too much manga. luckily komaeda reads normal books from the library, so he can get his symbolic protagonists from there. )
A lighter can do a lot in anyone's hands, you're no different... Isn't that why you obtained it?
he's so sure he can 'win' :' ) shin no
Maybe...
[Shin knows Komaeda's poking and prodding at the edges of him, trying to get reactions out of him, find things he can use, that sort of thing, although he thinks it's mostly for the sake of it itself. The sort of curiosity of a cat playing with something it's caught. In the face of this, he's basically answering the survey with 'i don't know what a pringle is'. The results are skewed just by the asker.
But also he just doesn't know why he has the lighter in the first place.]
Are you done? There's a draft coming under the door.
shin honey please... there's so many other, better dead boys you can kinda control...
instead, he'll take shin's thoughts and apply them to his mayhem. )
A few scraps of paper, please.
( he asks, looking towards the other. either he walks away, ignoring komaeda and leaving his lighter. or he just grabs a few sheets of paper to see what komaeda has planned, then regains his lighter yet again! either way, it's a win/win scenario since they're together and bonding. besides, it's not like komaeda has trouble dealing with others, he pushes himself away on purpose, and so he can easily bother shin when he needs for his lighter next time. besides, "friendship" works in "odd" ways, just look at how komaeda says his name? )
You're capable of that, aren't you, Tsukimi-kun? ( he's clapping his hands together with a smile.
paper! paper! paper! )
but... the catharsis...
[It's not even a lie, it won't fit in his jacket pockets and he only lugs around as many school supplies if he has to for as long as he has to. He's got a pretty good memory. He might be putting it on a bit, though. Komaeda already extracted the lighter from him and look what nonsense happened. Shin's living in the penumbra of plausible deniability as much as possible going forth.]
Maybe Miss Stephanie would have some? [It's a student council room, there's guaranteed to be paperwork in here somewhere as well.]
are you sure its gunna be worth it... :)
( his eyes lift to watch shin's own, and no matter how many times komaeda thinks about it, he sees no reason to deny his claim. it's paper, but if they aren't able to get that since asking stephanie would mean having her judge hammer slam down the yes or no. she's the reason they're all here anyway because none of them can get along, but look at this blossoming teamwork between him and shin? beautiful. in the end, there's a plan b, and he can share that with the other at least, and it would make things easier since shin's the only one that can help. )
Tsukimi-kun, come here.
( he's waiting patiently. i hate his name is tsukimi, bc i want to write tsumiki so much. )
it really isn't
Hm? I'm already here though.
[The well of cooperation has somewhat run dry, I'm sorry about this.
Adsfdgs I'm imagining a mixup where Shin and Mikan end up in each other's games now.]
no subject
( he may be an idiot, but this is also komaeda's idiot where he'll move towards the other some while crouched down — he yanks at the scarf, pulling shin towards the ground with him. if he wasn't standing up, then he wouldn't have this problem, but luckily the ultimate is able to quickly remedy it. he's very thoughtful, so does he win in getting the other down onto his knees.
please that would be soooo cute, ok the fact that mikan sits next to komaeda at trials, it's fitting. would mikan live longer than him, that's the q. )
no subject
I am dead serious.]
Hrk!
[Why does this keep happeninggggg... well, he knows why. Why does he keep being taken off guard is more the question.
But it's easier to let it happen, in this instance. It doesn't matter if Komaeda thinks he's some kind of dog as long as Shin knows it's not true... right? It's just deception. He does snatch the end of his scarf back, though.]
...what is it this time?
no subject
Keep a secret between you and me, okay?
( he's leaning towards shin, their shoulders brushing together as komaeda rests an arm around their neck. pulling them closer, he reaches to grab the beanie off his head before unwrapping himself from his body. with it in his possession along with the lighter, shin will be able to put two and two together on what komaeda's plan seems to be. it truly is seem, because he's trying to push the hoodie under the door, but there seems to be some invisible force not allowing it. )
