[Rin was making his already pounding headache worse, which wasn't unusual.

Yukio reached up to pull his glasses off, squeezing the bridge of his nose to ease some of the pain. It didn't work, but it was worth a try. His head felt as if he had gotten drunk the night before and was now suffering from the worst hangover in history. Everything was fuzzy when he thought about it too hard.]

Defensive, probably. [At least that's what his gut was telling him. It was school, why would they need to be defensive about it?] ... Casual? No. There's something wrong, just be on guard. You're smart [well....].

[The moment Yukio calls him smart he seems to brighten, like wow dude thanks for the compliment that really means a lot. He hums, rolling back to half-lay against the trunk of the tree, tucking his arms beneath his head and getting comfortable]

Secret agents? Are we secret agents? Can we be like secret agents? [Aaaand the normal Rin is back] So like, we have secret meetings in some home base or something and keep notes on everything that we figure out?

[Why was Rin the way he is?

Yukio let out a heavy sigh, leaning forward and burying his hands in his hair. His migraine was going to get worse, he could tell. Would it hurt letting Rin just do this thing? Secret agents, or whatever he wanted to do.

[He finally looks back at Rin, confusion still crossing his face at what Rin had just called him. Was that some quirky way of saying the phrase, or was he serious?

Yukio didn't want to know.]

Either way, be careful. If anything feels off just... don't pursue it until you talk to me.

You're gonna have to trust me too, you know. [He shifts up to let his tail unwind from his torso, slipping out past his clothes to flit lazily back and forth in the free air while they're both alone. It gets stuffy and uncomfortable when it's stuck being hidden, after all, so he may as well take the chance to let it loose whenever he can.]

I trust you. You know this. But I'm not always going to be in a position where I'm able to find you before I have to do something on my own, so you're gonna need to trust that I can handle myself too.

[Yukio was silent for a bit this time, just watching Rin with the corners of his mouth pulling into a small frown.

He did need to open up to Rin more, though he didn't really know how, and this was a weird situation. Everything was still fuzzy. Rin could handle himself just fine, he knew that.

We're a team this time, okay? Remember the snake guy with like two hundred eyes? We totally kick ass when we work together, so this one should be a piece of cake. [His tail is giving huge wags of happiness now that it's free, and it's paired with a fond little smile as he reaches over to poke at Yukio's glasses]

We'll be okay. So don't worry so much, Four-eyes.

[Worry is what he does, though, so that's not going to stop any time soon.

Now he just gets to worry but less silently.

He waves Rin's hand away from his face, though he keeps his gaze on him for a couple more seconds before he's looking away and into the distance.]

Sure. You're very optimistic about this whole thing.

I'm actually still sorta freaking out, if we're being honest!

[His expression turns a self deprecating, tail slowly stilling as his demeanor sobers up.] Like, a lot. But there's more important stuff to worry about, right? S-so uh... The rest of that can wait until later.

[That he wasn't expecting.

In truth, there was a lot on his mind right now, and he hadn't really considered how Rin would have been handling waking up in a clocktower covered in blood.

What the hell had they done?]

... Do you want to talk about it? We're not really doing anything else right now.

Uh... [Did he want to talk about it? Not... Really? But Yukio was offering to listen, and they hadn't ever had the best track record of standing on solid ground and seeing eye to eye, so he was going to talk about it anyway.]

Mostly I'm just... Worried, I guess. I feel like... Well. It feels like when I lost control that one time, only this time I'm not... Sure who I hurt. I mean, obviously I hurt them, but I'm not even sure how bad it was.

[Every now and then he'd take quick glances at Rin, his frown deepening. Whatever happened--whatever Rin had done--had to have been bad enough for Rin not to remember. Whatever he had gotten involved in, whatever Yukio had gotten dragged into...

Yukio clenched his hands into a tight fist before he relaxed it again. He exhaled, not realizing he had been holding his breath.]

You haven't lost control like that for a long time, and I doubt you would have lost it enough to hurt someone--seriously hurt them--without reason.

Yeah... I guess you're right.

[He huffs out a slow breath, letting his eyes roam across the petals of the wisteria before he's glancing back at Yukio again. He's still serious when he continues, and it's clear he's been trying to find a way to broach the topic for a bit now.] I can't... Use my flames, either. I've tried.

[Out of all the things that he had been expecting Rin to say to him, this had not been one of them. His eyes widen, turning to fully address Rin now and not simply stare out into the courtyard and disassociate.]

You what?

[Well, is that really a bad thing? Rin's flames have done nothing but get him in trouble half the time, and the other half it's been uncontrollable and put not only him in danger but everyone else around him.

Rin has has gotten better at controlling it, though.

Yukio could somehow feel the headache getting worse.]

Is it gone? Completely?

From what I can tell, seems like it. [He’s avoiding eye contact now, as somehow the topic makes him feel a bit self conscious. His flames are really all he has when it comes to combat mastery, and not having access to them is... Worrying to say the least.

Not to mention it comes with the fear that Yukio might decide Rin is more of a liability than an asset and shut him out of the partnership completely.]

I don’t know if it’s because of the... Guns? You used on me before? But they did make me super weak back then and this sorta feels like it just never really came back. [He curls and uncurls his fists a few times, watching the tendons shift,] Sucks ass, honestly. My whole body feels heavy. Like I’m half asleep.

[The effects of the black flame shouldn't have lasted this long. At the very least, it hadn't lasted this long before. Rin's flames had come back, hadn't they? Why were they just gone now?

Perhaps it's a confidence thing, like how he couldn't pull the sword out until he had more confidence in himself...

But that made little sense. The flames were a part of him, naturally occurring within him, it should have nothing to do with his confidence.

But if it's mixed with the black flames, then perhaps...]

It could be a prolonged side effect, they'll probably come back soon.

[He sounded a lot more confident than he actually felt, but Rin needed reassurance now, not insecurities.]
