WHO: Mission 2A Crew and friends?
WHAT: After being missing for a week, Sidney, Hajun and Shin finally show up again, in less than stellar condition.
WHEN: August 18
WHERE: Fourth Floor Hallway, elsewhere??

i. blinding light ( team 2a)

( this is not the library- and he was definitely not standing a moment ago. but sou is on the other side of a door, and haruka- where was she? was it... no, the wolf head was still there-- atsushi- he was still-- his arm...! it hurts. it burns and aches and he wants to let himself collapse but there's bloody paw prints and the feeling of fangs lingers in the back of his mind, so he can't, not yet. instead, he tenses up, reaches over to hold what's left of his arm and inhales. it takes him a moment to remember that this all started because they came to the fourth floor door and saw it open.)

( eventually, the men will realize they're back at the school. at which point, sidney's sitting his ass on the stairs and sending one of the others to fetch elizabeth, because he did see that weird healing thing in june, and he's not getting any better standing around with a home-made tourniquet and whatever else.

but while he's waiting, leaning against the wall and trying to even his breathing, stay awake, maybe someone else heard of their return- two someones, actually. hopefully they aren't too bothered by the clearly bloody bundle beside him. as they rush up the stairs, he cracks one tired eye open- and sidney wishes he could even justify cracking a smile at the sight of them, but everything is happening so much, so much, so much. he's lucky he can force out a single sentance; )

I missed you both.

Team 2A is back from their mission! Seeing as they were gone for the second week of the month, separate from everyone else's missions, there's probably a lot of immediate questions! Let's goooo.

( in truth, he hadn't expected it to take him anywhere though- just... open the door, and take a glance. and then he was in a hall of mirrors, and the door was gone. there's so much he should have done differently, but it all freezes in his mind at noah's question. )

... When I went through the door, I was taken to someplace else with a few others. A hall of mirrors, with all of them reflecting something different. When we tried to use one as an exit, it brought us to a cabin in the woods, but there was... a wolf monster. It...

( sidney pauses, and then sighs. what does he say? )

I had Hajun and Sou escape while I tried to hold it off, but it caught me at the last minute.

...is it still alive? I can go kill it. I've killed bigger monsters.

[Noah's still blinking tears out of his eyes when that registers, but he's a kid whose only purpose in life is revenge — if the monster is still alive, he'll kill it. For Sidney's sake, as well as everyone else's...

...was it an illusion, he wonders? Noah thinks back to months ago when he thought Henir's Order was in charge of this place, that it was all one big trick. Hm...]

( he only got one head, so who knows. and with the bloody, fading pawprints he saw... )

( watched it tear two people to shreds, stumbled upon the corpse of another- sidney looks away for a moment, before pulling noah back against him with his one arm. he saw how the hunter looked at the child, how it was remembering her presence, stumbling over her that gave the beast an opening.

[Noah hugs Sidney around the waist, short as he is, but he's looking up at Sidney with this expression yes including the sparkles, he's determined.]

It won't get me. I move too fast anyway, and I can attack from a distance. I got really good at throwing knives last month too, so I'll be fine.

( son? son are you with a bad crowd? oh no he's so worried now- but after a moment, something in his heart hurts, and he just. sighs. and lets himself lower just a bit, to meet noah eye to eye. )

...there's knife-holes in the wall of one of the classrooms where host club was. Don't worry about it.

But... like a son, huh? The only other person who cares for him like that is Clamor, probably. They're family, in a weird little way, just a living weapon and his wielder. And Noah's dad was... unkind.]

...I didn't really have a dad. Or... I did, but I don't think he acted like a father should. You can be the father I never had. ...I promise not to do anything stupid on my own, um... dad.

( n o a h- but you know what, it's. it's not nearly as important as this is. instead, he just.. squeezes noah's shoulder a bit, tight but affectionate. )

You don't have to "do much". I just... um... well, actually, you can do something for me right now. You can sit down and rest and eat something.

[Has Sidney been resting... Noah makes the face a stubborn child would make in preparation for Sidney to be like "no it's okay I'm good :)".]

Y...you have to keep your strength up after you get injured badly. Even I know that.

( ah... he's going to be hearing that a lot from all angles, isn't he? but he can't help but smile fondly, just for noah. )

Okay. Can you help me get something to eat? I was only trying to stretch my legs, since I've been laying down a lot since I got back.

Yeah, I can. What do you want? Um... not to brag, but I can make a pretty good sandwich.

[Or he can make pancakes, since Sidney's the one who showed him how. He supposes it depends on how hungry the man is.]

And... I guess stretching your legs is okay... [he's worried okay.]

Something light. I've... ( been doted on a LOT, and lost his appetite completely at the same time. but at least he's still eating and getting fluids. ) You're not the first to tell me I need to eat. But you aren't wrong, either.

Senku would explain it better than me, but it's something about needing to eat a lot so that your wounds heal better... something something science. [Nods to himself. Look at him, he's learning.] Eggs are light...

[He's dragging Sidney off to the kitchen to make an egg now.]

Or... a salad... [Egg salad?] ...soup? I bet soup is easy to make.

( why is his son so funny oh my god- sidney slowly forces himself back upright, both because back pain is both nothing and so much worse when dealing with something far more grievous and because he doesn't want to worry noah, but he ruffles noah's hair as he does, nodding. )

Eggs are fine. ( more than fine, actually. if his last meal were an omelet, he'd be pretty satisfied on at least one level. ) Let's go.

Okay. I'm... pretty sure I can figure out how to make an egg.

[The problem with that is there's like 100 different ways to make an egg and that's why chef's hats have 100 folds, is because of the egg thing. Noah does not know this but it's a Fun Fact nonetheless. Eggs are probably really easy. Just put them in a pan and pray.
