• open — 08/27-31, around the school
( it's true that, the morning after he opens his eyes in the courtyard once more, amami doesn't waste any time on checking up on the people he feels like he needs to speak to. at the same time, it's a pretty short list, and half of them are gone. how much of a difference does it really make if he comes back one week or the next anyway? if he doesn't go out of his way to find someone though, it's still entirely possible to see him around the school — borrowing a sketchbook from the art room, taking some notes in the music room, or moving what seems to be an obscene amount of money into his locker. noticing the presence of anyone he hasn't seen in a while, he'll offer a wave and a warm smile in the midst of whatever he's doing.02.) and shines at the sound of your laugh
on the 27th in particular, he can be found rummaging through a locker that some might recognize is clearly not his. the first twenty minutes or so are spent haphazardly scribbling notes down from a series of stickies pinned up against the locker door. the remainder of the time is spent picking out belongings from the locker one-by-one to take a look at before he decides whether he should drop them into a backpack that's half-slung over his shoulder. to his credit, he doesn't seem to be interested in too much of it, putting the majority back in after a cursory glance, but it's entirely possible that it could stand out to someone familiar with locker 097. )

[ He gets to start denying it first, before Amami's demeanor makes it clear it's a joke and Saihara gets flustered, wishing he had his hat he could pull over his face. Instead, all he can do is fiddle with some hair, eyes darting restlessly throughout the room while he hides behind the imperfect cover of that hand and finds nothing to really settle on. Did Amami have a side to his personality that was like this...? Come to think of it, Saihara didn't get the chance to know all that much about him; but he does understand it might have been the other's way to ice-break. ]
It's just that... I was kind of worried, that's all.
[ About what can be specified soon, or maybe Amami will infer it by himself. Either way, give Saihara a minute so he can shake the embarrassment off. ]

( a bit of an apologetic look to go along with the words. it's a bigger reaction than he'd been expecting. kinda endearing, but he feels a little bad too. at least saihara seems to catch on quick enough that no harm was meant, and even if amami finds himself feeling a bit awkward too as he waits for the other to be able to meet his eyes again, he doesn't mind letting saihara compose himself a bit more as he responds. )
Must be pretty serious if you went out of your way, huh.
( though to be honest, there is... no shortage of things to be worried about in a place like this. of course the piano brings one in particular to the forefront, but he'll let saihara explain first, without jumping to any conclusions. )

It's because... I haven't seen Akamatsu-san in a while...
[ And he'll leave it at that. He doesn't think he needs to explain to Amami what kind of "haven't seen" he means... The kind where the other students don't even remember her when he asks around, like she's never existed. But as for what he's looking for... ]
...S-Sorry. It must sound like I'm asking you to comfort me, but that's not it. However, Amami-kun, you don't know anything about what happened to her either, right?

( even if saihara was looking for something like that, while amami might not be the best person for it, it isn't as if it wouldn't have been understandable. the two of them — before, at least, they had been near inseparable from what he'd seen. even if saihara didn't linger in her shadow the same way in this place, it doesn't change the fact that the two of them must have been pretty close.
and, truth be told, amami can't act like he wasn't just as grateful for her presence. )
I tried to stop by her classroom before, and nobody seemed to know what I was talking about.
( he kind of grimaces, but his voice softens slightly as he continues, gaze following saihara's. )
... Her name isn't on the rosters anymore, either.
( which he's been making a habit of checking. you know, just in case. )

Right. That's the same thing... that happened with Naegi-san, too.
[ And others as well, but Naegi was one of the first -- and the one that Saihara looked into when it happened, searching together with Ishimaru throughout the school. In a kind of frustrating way, a lot of the questions they'd asked back then have no answers even now, and might still be valid. Five months later... just goes to show that they've made no progress on certain fronts, and it makes Saihara kind of restless.
If only he was a better detective... if only Kirigiri or Sherlock were still here instead... but this isn't the time for that. Amami probably doesn't even know who Naegi was, not from maybe more than just hearing about him a little. ]
So it's not that it doesn't happen in here, it's just... I couldn't ignore it. After all, back in the Ultimate Academy, it might not be in the same order but you and Akamatsu-san... were gone not too far from each other.
[ Well, dead is the word he's looking for, but that feels a little... callous to say. ]

( amami can finish the thought for him, and he kind of pauses for a moment, leaving it to settle in the air between them. he doesn't look too displeased about it though; a calm, thoughtful expression rests on his features as he considers the idea. while he isn't fond of it, it's not so unreasonable of saihara to think of such a thing. the concern, for all of the unfortunate past that it reflects, is something sincere, and he appreciates it.
breathing out a sigh, amami glances to the windows, taking in the view of the sky outside. )
I don't plan on disappearing so easily, but I guess it's hard to make any promises in a place like this, huh.
( that said, he doesn't feel like he was called out here just so saihara could tell him "btw i think you might die soon," so he'll return his gaze to rest on the boy beside him, maybe a little bit expectant. )
What do you think we should do then?

Ah, well... to tell you the truth, it made me realize a little more than that. It's not just you... I'm sure something could happen to any of us.
[ Even himself. Reaching briefly into his pocket, he fishes out a slip of paper that was clearly positioned, from the ease with which it comes through, to be on hand for this very purpose. He offers it to Amami without much fuss, just a simple, quiet gesture. If Amami opens it, he'll find the number "097" and then another few digits penned neatly in Saihara's handwriting. ]
That's... um, my locker code. I have a few things in there that might be useful... and a lot of the information I've gathered is written down, too. If something happens to me... it would make me feel better if someone else still had access to them.
