Early August!
He waits by Hinata's locker, standing rigid like a statue, until the boy in question arrives.]
Hinata-kun! Good morning! I am thrilled to see you alive and well again! [He greets him with a salute!]

You...
[...There's no way he can pretend. Hinata knows so little about this place and the people here, and it feels wrong to not be honest about it anyway.]
...Thank you, for being worried about me. But... [His hands ball into fists.] I don't remember who you are. I'm really sorry.
no subject
You... you do not remember? How could it be? [He gives a confused blink.] Was it your injuries? You must have sustained a blow to your head that had an effect on your memory!
[That sounds like the only logical way someone could lose their memories! Kiyotaka attempts to regain his confidence as he clings to that theory.]
Then perhaps my name will ring a bell! Kiyotaka Ishimaru, the Ultimate Public Morals Committee Member! A fellow hard-working spirit! [He remembers their first conversation fondly. He's sure that Hinata must have that memory tucked away somewhere, just waiting to be reawakened!]

...The nurse said I had a head injury, so that might've been what caused it, but... I honestly couldn't say for sure. There was a lot happening when I woke up, but that's probably the most logical answer. I... [His expression turns helpless, even as he tries to wrack his brain, tries to force an answer from it that it's unable to provide.] ...I still can't remember, though. I'm sorry. Still...
[He manages a smile, even if it's a sad one.]
...When you say "fellow hard-working spirit"... it makes me think we must've really gotten along.
no subject
I... I see. I am very sorry for the injury that you have sustained, Hinata-kun...
[He gives a soft, apologetic bow of the head.]
But that is alright! I will not harbor any ill will against you if you have no control over what you do or do not remember. It is true that we got along, from the first time we spoke. After all, I am someone who believes in the path of hard work and always doing your best. And you are someone who seems to share similar sentiments!
[A slight smile grows on his face.]
It was refreshing to meet someone baring such a sincere appreciation.

The one who should be sorry is me, for not remembering, but... [Still, Hinata manages a smile. Ishimaru has a good heart.] ...Thanks, Ishimaru. You're a good guy, I think.
[He can't help laughing then, even if it's tinged with sadness.]
It's... funny, though. I never thought I'd meet someone else my age that would say something like that, you know? In school, that's the kind of thing the other kids used to laugh at me for, but... I think if I'd had a friend like you, that thought that way... I'd have been a lot happier growing up.
["I've always believed that I could accomplish things so long as I worked hard enough."]

[And as Hinata goes in, it feels like a shadow of their first conversation. Strangely, sadly nostalgic. And specifically knowing that he could have made Hinata's life happier... well, that just warms his heart. Standing rigidly, his expression lightens up as he speaks.]
I would be happy if I could play such a role for my fellow man! It is true that young people these days can be far too lackadaisical and undisciplined. That is all the more reason for me to stand up and serve as an example advocating for the path of hard work! By working hard, instead of relying on natural ability or anything that comes easy to something, we can truly grow and adapt to many problems!
[Then again, it doesn't seem like anything can help to adapt to situations like this school.]

If you're rejecting it, I guess I can't refute that. [The smile he wears is a little sad, but it's a true one.] You're welcome.
[Ishimaru's words roll over him like a balm, old pains that wore on his heart finally being eased. If he'd had someone like that growing up... many things would be different, probably.]
It'd be a better world, I think, if we had more people that tried to be role models like you. If you have a mindset like that, it'll carry you far, Ishimaru. I know things might be bad here, but... Hold onto that, for when we can get out of here, and you'll be able to do a lot of good.
[Echoes upon echoes upon echoes - the things that Hinata Hajime will always tell Ishimaru Kiyotaka, because encountering those words will invoke the same response in his heart.]

Ishimaru smiles softly as the other boy accepts the rejection of his apology. There's no sense letting him beat himself up over something that he had no control over, which was the result of an attack! And as Hinata continues speaking, he feels a strong sense of validation as Hinata's support of his views go on.]
Yes, that is exactly what I hope for. I hope to influence and shape the world, to create a society based around hard work! That is my dream. Even those with natural talent should learn the value of working hard, in order to avoid the pitfalls that come with genius. [Like the pitfall that ensnared his grandfather.
He holds up his hand to his heart.]
Rest assured... I will continue to hold onto my feelings and beliefs, and I will carry them forward with me through whatever hardships might await. [In a way, it's refreshing to talk to Hinata like this. With little to no memories of this school, he has yet to have his spirits beaten down by it.] ...Thank you, Hinata-kun. I can assure you that I will do my absolute best.

[It's strange, isn't it, when genius could easily equate to talent - and isn't that something Hinata has always thought of admiringly, Hope's Peak a place that he always adored? But he's also always been someone that works hard - even if some of his memories are hazy, that one thing remains clear. Someone that places value in the thing that he's done all his life... Ishimaru Kiyotaka.
Hinata can see, why he took reassurance in him as a friend.]
I don't know what things'll be like when we get out here, but... If there's ever anything I can do to support you, I'll do whatever I can.
no subject
Thank you very much, Hinata-kun. Your faith in me is empowering! I feel inspired to work even harder than before.
[His fist balls up with determination as he regards the other boy! They can rebuild this connection. Ishimaru is sure of it now!]
And I am quite happy to have your support. Together, we can endorse the values of hard work and prove the folly of so-called genius! I am... quite glad to meet you once again, Hinata-kun! [It's a bittersweet feeling, but ultimately it's a good thing to get to know Hinata again.]
