( it starts out small. a need for comfort food, and a need for something heartfelt but silly and fun, something genuine and kind. ... and, well, she did find a weird. bootleg vhs set of her favorite movie series, hamster space wars. but the dorm is only barely furnished- and it's not like they can just go out and buy a tv or anything. honestly she completely doubts there's even anything beyond the woods. but she remembers a teacher playing the thing and other stuff in the first month of all of this. 

it's so long ago...

but there's a television and a vhs player in the school. and nene... nene's tired and sad and is currently out of fucks to give, so at some point in the day, after everyone else has left, nene has returned to the school and, uh. "borrowed" both things. it's fine. they just have to get it back in by sunday evening. don't worry about it. like, it's definitely heavy but she's a tough cookie who tills soil and everything, and also sara and noah both witnessed everything and are accomplices by default, so they had to help carry things too. 

(they were completely happy to help on both accounts, she asked very nicely.) 

so the "borrowed" television is set up across from one of the larger couches, and the vhs on top of it. she had cookies in the oven, donuts and hot chocolate made and popcorn popped. the common room paintings are covered with sheets of cloth. all that was left was something cozy- but at this point, nene's made so many little cushions and blankets and even cozy pjs that that's super easy. all that was left was letting anyone who wanted to come know too. so at some point in the halls, nene walks down calling out: )

Cartoons in the common room! Bring blankets and stuff! 

( and, so everyone knows what their characters are getting into: hamster space wars is a movie series about different factions of hamsters that have been trying for cross planetary peace for ages now, with a villainous faction having sabotaged the final negotiations so they can control the war from the shadows to make the most money and also get the most seeds (Very Decadent). the first movie follows the main hamster and his little group trying to escape the villains after having witnessed the sabotage, and are trying to avoid assassination and end the war for good. the sequels follow allied factions, with hamster galactic wars being the Thrilling Conclusion. 

it's heartfelt. it's silly. it's very cute. nene loves it. )

Well, npc-kun isn't so much intimidated of people as they they are of intangible concepts, so they just look at Stephanie with vague interest. Children... do not usually have very much money. ]

I've never seen you before! [stops, perches on bag.] I'm Stephanie. What's your name?

[ They're quiet for a moment, because so many people want their name, they really could make a business selling it.

... ]

I run the student store! Have you been inside? We've got all sorts of necessities for sale! Everything from rocks to backpacks to rocks! Come and stop by someday and take a look!

[GASP, eyes widen]

Do you have soccer balls?

[adsum]

Sure I do! I've got soccer balls and basketballs and tennis balls and rocks!

[ please! buy a rock!! ]

[adsum]

[ claps their hands together!! ]

Are you interested? I brought a whole bunch with me— look, look!

[ shakes their satchel of rocks between them, look, ]

... I could go get as many rocks as I want for free, outside?

[adsum]

Those aren't as great as my rocks. Just look.

[ Here, they'll dig inside the bag and pull out a pebble. Plain grey, small, like any rock you might find outside on the ground. ]

Those are completely normal rocks. I have five just like those in my room. [For Reasons]

Oh! Did you play the gacha?

[ why do you have rocks, the only rocks people should have are shopkeeper rocks ]

I got them from the ground. Where rocks come from.

[pause]

They're good for hopscotch.

[adsum]

I have prettier rocks, though, that'll make hopscotch much more fun! I also have chalk to draw hopscotch lines with! Anything you need, you can find it in the student store!

[ or you can pick rocks up off the ground and take chalk from the classrooms BUT LOOK, ]

... Well, how many points are the rocks? [like she'll buy a pity rock.]

[adsum]

[ it feels like they've only ever been able to sell pity rocks while peddling, meanwhile everybody throws away their points at gacha... ]

How many points do you have? I heard everybody here is poor.

[closewithnewintown]

That's just because they all skip classes and don't do their homework. [waves a hand dismissively as she shades all her classmates] I have lots of points; I can spend whatever outside of what I'll need for the exchange trip next month.

[pause]

This is gonna be the point where you say the rocks cost "lots," isn't it.

[adsum]

It's a sliding scale! It wouldn't be fair if I charged the same amount for people who can and can not afford it, right? Everybody deserves to buy a rock!

[ but... yes... rocks cost lots ]

Maybe it'll make everybody work harder at school if it earns them rock buying points?

[closewithnewintown]

... I mean, I guess it would. Who doesn't like rocks?

[thoughtful pause]

You remind me of somebody I know back home. So! I've decided that if you don't give me a name, I'm just gonna call you by his name.

[adsum]

Right?! Rocks are the best!

[ Even people who normally wouldn't notice rocks will stop and stare at a rock given to them. They have some sort of power. ]

...What's the name?

Stingy.

[adsum]

Vetoed!

There's exactly one way to stop this from happening, and that's not it.
