( it starts out small. a need for comfort food, and a need for something heartfelt but silly and fun, something genuine and kind. ... and, well, she did find a weird. bootleg vhs set of her favorite movie series, hamster space wars. but the dorm is only barely furnished- and it's not like they can just go out and buy a tv or anything. honestly she completely doubts there's even anything beyond the woods. but she remembers a teacher playing the thing and other stuff in the first month of all of this. 

it's so long ago...

but there's a television and a vhs player in the school. and nene... nene's tired and sad and is currently out of fucks to give, so at some point in the day, after everyone else has left, nene has returned to the school and, uh. "borrowed" both things. it's fine. they just have to get it back in by sunday evening. don't worry about it. like, it's definitely heavy but she's a tough cookie who tills soil and everything, and also sara and noah both witnessed everything and are accomplices by default, so they had to help carry things too. 

(they were completely happy to help on both accounts, she asked very nicely.) 

so the "borrowed" television is set up across from one of the larger couches, and the vhs on top of it. she had cookies in the oven, donuts and hot chocolate made and popcorn popped. the common room paintings are covered with sheets of cloth. all that was left was something cozy- but at this point, nene's made so many little cushions and blankets and even cozy pjs that that's super easy. all that was left was letting anyone who wanted to come know too. so at some point in the halls, nene walks down calling out: )

Cartoons in the common room! Bring blankets and stuff! 

( and, so everyone knows what their characters are getting into: hamster space wars is a movie series about different factions of hamsters that have been trying for cross planetary peace for ages now, with a villainous faction having sabotaged the final negotiations so they can control the war from the shadows to make the most money and also get the most seeds (Very Decadent). the first movie follows the main hamster and his little group trying to escape the villains after having witnessed the sabotage, and are trying to avoid assassination and end the war for good. the sequels follow allied factions, with hamster galactic wars being the Thrilling Conclusion. 

it's heartfelt. it's silly. it's very cute. nene loves it. )

( nene's got her own nail polish collection now! isn't that nice? so at some point in the corner, nene sits in a cleared out area with the box and a wide variety of colors, which is really impressive considering the box itself is so small. her collection even includes stickers, glitter, sponges to make gradients... q-tips and nail polish remover...

the only thing not there is red.

weird.

anyways, if you come over she's happy to help you get your nails did. or make sure you can do someone else's.

but if you steal a bottle nene WILL sick a ghost on you. )

anyways, nene is just going to carefully take his hand and make sure nothing's on his nails first, this is very important. )

[He laughs a little bit... very softly.]

Okay, that's... fair. Um... good luck.

[There's nothing already on his nails as far as he's aware. They're neatly trimmed, not too short but not long enough to claw someone's face out either. The black hand might look like something's on his nails, but that's consequence of, you know, skin discolouration.]

( considering the state they've all been in, she's actually a little surprised- nothing against him or anyone else here, but having such poor living conditions isn't going to keep anyone looking nice and prim. but for the ease of applying the nailpolish, she's still going to file at the tops just a bit- nice and smooth- before gently blowing away anything that remains. hmm...

[Listen... don't worry about how he's kept his nails looking nice. Probably cutting them with his own shadow magic because he'll go insane otherwise.]

[Noah is very good at holding still, which is unfortunately a learned response from all the breaking and entering he did back home and the sneaking around mutants and all that fun stuff.]

( nene paints diligently, very careful to not accidentally get his fingers instead. the black paint is glossy and holds a subtle sparkle, but it's mostly visible when in the light. )

... Have you been having fun? A couple of the movies are done...

( meaning, some time has passed since he first showed up. has he been talking to others? enjoying the movies? just vibing? )

...I wound up drawing some hamsters. [It's the movie's fault!!] Um... and talked to Sara a little bit, but... I'm still not really good at these party things.

Nail polish? Huh, come to think of it, Yuzu hasn't done something like that in a while... even back home. Well, there were plenty of reasons why, but... seeing them out like that, she may as well, right? ]

Ooh, nail polish... do you mind if I...?

[ She says, sitting down. She notices how there's a lack of red... but eh, she wasn't a fan of red nails anyway. ]

Oh, go ahead we've got the time! ... I've been dared to speak in rhyme.

anyways, nene scoots back a bit and slides the box forward. )

[ Ah, she's been dared... she gets it now. ]

Ah, that must get tiring sometimes...

[ Though it was still a fun and interesting dare, at least. Yuzu's not sure she'd be able to come up with rhymes for very long, though. ]

Do you want me to paint your nails? Ooh, or you could do mine!

[we're gonna pretend he was dragged over here. He was planning on leaving, parties aren't his thing, but now he's sitting down looking defeated. Have artistic license on painting his nails be free.]

( eh... well, he's here, so. he must be. after a moment of humming in thought, nene pulls out a dark blue. even if there's free reign, she likes to be considerate. )

[He isn't pouting.

He does stick his hand out though, so he probably doesn't oppose as much as he wants people to think.]

( nene blinks for a moment... before giggling quietly, taking his hand gently to start on the primer. )

You're being a good sport about it! Thank you.

( to aid his façade on being a mostly unwilling victim to nene's doe eyes. )

It could be worse.

[He could be playing truth or dare. He would rather eat glass than do that, so he submitted to the nail painting.

Not that he REALLY minded. He enjoyed Nene’s company.

[There are only so many things you can make Yukio do. There was a line he wasn't about to cross and that was truth or dare. Probably if he could get away fast enough.]

[Eventually this long fucker wanders his way over and plops down beside her, crossing his legs and holding out his left hand]

Can you do blue? It's been a year or two since I've last had paint on them, so they might look a bit rough. [Despite his words, the nails themselves look relatively fine, although there's a bit of evidence that he chews them down on a regular basis. Unsurprisingly, his palms and fingers are heavily calloused.]

Oh- yeah! I've got a few shades... oh, but this one matches your eyes, I think. What do you think?

( and nene lifts up a small bottle of a familiar blue! of course, she has to fix his nails up a bit better, but that's neither here nor there. she's been at this for a bit now, he saw her doing it to everyone else, he knew the risks. )

[He reaches out to take the bottle, running it around a few times in his palm before nodding sagely and passing it back over to her.]

That one will do nicely, I think. It almost reminds me of the starconches that wash up on the beaches of Liyue back home.

( i went to go check if mona had mentioned liyue to nene before she died and she didn't so nene doesn't know what he's talking about. but if the color's approved, it's approved and she's going to diligently get to work! )

Is that a type of shell? It sounds pretty.

They are rather pretty! They're sort of like...

[He pauses briefly, trying to decide how best to describe them.] I'm gonna assume you have snails where you're from. It's sorta like a snail shell, but roughly the size of a small melon. They're that kind of blue, and they've got this big white star on the side. If you put them to your ear, legend says you can hear the ocean's secrets.

Maybe I'll see if I can sneak one back from the exchange trip next month. Shouldn't be too hard, right? My sister Tonia likes to collect them too, so I know all the best places to find them.
