( it starts out small. a need for comfort food, and a need for something heartfelt but silly and fun, something genuine and kind. ... and, well, she did find a weird. bootleg vhs set of her favorite movie series, hamster space wars. but the dorm is only barely furnished- and it's not like they can just go out and buy a tv or anything. honestly she completely doubts there's even anything beyond the woods. but she remembers a teacher playing the thing and other stuff in the first month of all of this.

it's so long ago...

but there's a television and a vhs player in the school. and nene... nene's tired and sad and is currently out of fucks to give, so at some point in the day, after everyone else has left, nene has returned to the school and, uh. "borrowed" both things. it's fine. they just have to get it back in by sunday evening. don't worry about it. like, it's definitely heavy but she's a tough cookie who tills soil and everything, and also sara and noah both witnessed everything and are accomplices by default, so they had to help carry things too.

(they were completely happy to help on both accounts, she asked very nicely.)

so the "borrowed" television is set up across from one of the larger couches, and the vhs on top of it. she had cookies in the oven, donuts and hot chocolate made and popcorn popped. the common room paintings are covered with sheets of cloth. all that was left was something cozy- but at this point, nene's made so many little cushions and blankets and even cozy pjs that that's super easy. all that was left was letting anyone who wanted to come know too. so at some point in the halls, nene walks down calling out: )

Cartoons in the common room! Bring blankets and stuff!

( and, so everyone knows what their characters are getting into: hamster space wars is a movie series about different factions of hamsters that have been trying for cross planetary peace for ages now, with a villainous faction having sabotaged the final negotiations so they can control the war from the shadows to make the most money and also get the most seeds (Very Decadent). the first movie follows the main hamster and his little group trying to escape the villains after having witnessed the sabotage, and are trying to avoid assassination and end the war for good. the sequels follow allied factions, with hamster galactic wars being the Thrilling Conclusion.

it's heartfelt. it's silly. it's very cute. nene loves it. )

( don't mind nene popping up- since this seems to be about the first movie, it's probably before truth or dare, which means i don't have to worry about rhymes. as castor and pollux, twin protagonist and antagonist, hold each other's gazes across the assembly floor, spica tries to fix the escape pod amidst the chaos.

A twin turning on a twin? What's not to love? [In a vid, of course!! She couldn't stand this kind of drama in real life. It was bad enough when the Admirals tried to accuse her of treason just to use it as an excuse to push their politics.]

Is there any more hot chocolate? It's amazing. [Levo-amino foods tasted so much better than the bland dextro-amino foods she had to eat at home. She was definitely enjoying her ability to eat them now without any consequence.]

The drama's so good!

( ugh, the storytelling... there's so many things that's so much better in fiction. like the school- nene's almost ashamed to say that if this hadn't been her new reality, she'd have read this story in a book eagerly. )

If there's not, I can make some. A friend of mine also made some coffee, they like to mix the two together.

Please tell me there's a romantic plot later on? [Tali can't help it, she's a silly romantic. She likes drama, but she likes happy endings much better. Maybe because sometimes it was questionable on if she would get a happy ending back home. Honestly, this place was almost calm in comparison to what they had been going through back home.]

Coffee...? That's...the stimulant humans like to drink to help them stay awake, isn't it? [Can you tell she's never had it before?] I'm not I want to be wired at this hour.

Oh yeah, there's a few throughout the series. The third focuses on a couple working together to try and guide their colony through the war- they get loooots of really sweet moments, too!

( congrats on signing yourself up for a 5-part movie series, tali! but thankfully, nene has them all. )

Oh, really? [You can't see her blushing, but that made her think of her and Shepard. The two of them were trying to save their galaxy from an oncoming war. She had a feeling she would like that one a lot.]

Thank you, though. I think I'll just stick with the hot chocolate. [She's definitely enjoying getting to have actual human chocolate. Turian chocolate wasn't bad, but humans made everything so sweet and delicious.]

Mhm! It's a really good one, but it's still cute and fun like the rest too.

( nene nods at tali's affirmation though- hot chocolate on it's own was great, after all, and they'd only just gotten started. it was the little things in yogen- and after the hell that was summer, everyone needed lots of little things. she could only hope that tonight, with everything she had out and was doing, was helping everyone too. )

We'll have to keep watching, then. I want to get to that one. [Don't judge, let her be a sappy romantic.]

I hate I can't show you any of the vids from my home. I bet you'd love Fleet and Flotilla. [That was her absolute favorite. It was another sappy romance, but she adored it too.]

Ohh, what's it about?

( not that she expects an indepth answer during a movie. that'd be rude- tali hasn't seen it before after all! )

[Listen, it's always a good time to ramble about Fleet and Flotilla.]

It's about a young quarian-- like me, leaving her home ship to go on her Pilgrimage, and ending up falling in love with a turian soldier. It's a beautiful story about having to choose between duty and love. And of course, everyone loves a good cross-species romance.

That sounds SO good! ( not that she knows what a turian is! ) Maybe you'll find a copy somewhere, like I did for these!

That would be nice. [But if she finds anything from home, she has a list of things she would MUCH rather find first.]

Now that I think about it, I've never made Shepard watch it, either. I'll have to fix that. [She's almost ashamed of herself, at the thought!!! If she never came across it here, then she most definitely had to make her watch it when they figured out how to get back home.]

It might not be a good quality, but... ( gestures to the clearly bootlegged hamsters. ) It's still fun to watch.

Poor quality is better than nothing. [Tali's used to second hand things, anyway. On the Flotilla, they got a lot of bootleg things. They took in junkyard level things and rebuilt them to work for them. Saving money and supplies was how they survived. But she had gotten spoiled in her time on Shepard's ship. She always made sure her crew had the best of the best, whenever possible.]

Well, actually-- [SHE'S BLUSHING BUT YOU CAN'T SEE IT SADLY.] Shepard's...my girlfriend.

Oh!!! If you ever wanna borrow these for a date night that's okay then! ... It's about all I have to offer though. I don't think anyone's found movies or anything like that yet.

( as great as the hamsters are... it's kinda slim pickings. )
