i don't want to survive, i want to live
Who: Yes
What: Movie Night + Slumber Party
When: 9/11, Saturday Evening
Where: Dorm Common Room
Warnings: A ridiculous amount of Fluff, probably
( it starts out small. a need for comfort food, and a need for something heartfelt but silly and fun, something genuine and kind. ... and, well, she did find a weird. bootleg vhs set of her favorite movie series, hamster space wars. but the dorm is only barely furnished- and it's not like they can just go out and buy a tv or anything. honestly she completely doubts there's even anything beyond the woods. but she remembers a teacher playing the thing and other stuff in the first month of all of this.
it's so long ago...
but there's a television and a vhs player in the school. and nene... nene's tired and sad and is currently out of fucks to give, so at some point in the day, after everyone else has left, nene has returned to the school and, uh. "borrowed" both things. it's fine. they just have to get it back in by sunday evening. don't worry about it. like, it's definitely heavy but she's a tough cookie who tills soil and everything, and also sara and noah both witnessed everything and are accomplices by default, so they had to help carry things too.
(they were completely happy to help on both accounts, she asked very nicely.)
so the "borrowed" television is set up across from one of the larger couches, and the vhs on top of it. she had cookies in the oven, donuts and hot chocolate made and popcorn popped. the common room paintings are covered with sheets of cloth. all that was left was something cozy- but at this point, nene's made so many little cushions and blankets and even cozy pjs that that's super easy. all that was left was letting anyone who wanted to come know too. so at some point in the halls, nene walks down calling out: )
Cartoons in the common room! Bring blankets and stuff!
( and, so everyone knows what their characters are getting into: hamster space wars is a movie series about different factions of hamsters that have been trying for cross planetary peace for ages now, with a villainous faction having sabotaged the final negotiations so they can control the war from the shadows to make the most money and also get the most seeds (Very Decadent). the first movie follows the main hamster and his little group trying to escape the villains after having witnessed the sabotage, and are trying to avoid assassination and end the war for good. the sequels follow allied factions, with hamster galactic wars being the Thrilling Conclusion.
it's heartfelt. it's silly. it's very cute. nene loves it. )

( for the whole club and not just him but w/e )
But I'm more interested in your friend HERE. ( can he poke it............ pwease. ) I had a drone back home TOO, but it needed to be controlled by an app on my tabLET.
( he doesn't see anything like that in here from a quick glance so What's Up )
no subject
but at the mention of also having a drone... hmmm. this person might be worth talking to after all.]
From the gardening club, then. [that's his only acknowledgement of the plant food comment. look..... he didn't make it for YOU, he just HAPPENED to be making some for HIMSELF and gave the leftovers to Nene, and if she felt like sharing that's on her...]
External control device... hmm, yes, some primitive Nasods use a method like that. But there are more precise methods.
[he shifts under his blanket, tapping the side of his head with a finger. the light in his eyes flickers unnaturally—they're not quite "cybernetic" anymore, but it's clear that they're not organic, either.]
Dynamo's controls are all in here. There's an autopilot program as well... but with practise, it's no different from moving an arm or a leg.
no subject
he wouldn't ask that, but he's not shy about sitting down properly and peering closer. not quite cybernetic, but not organic... it's like something out of science fiction. )
IncrediBLE... ( more than that. ) How does it work exactLY? Do people from your world typically have THIS, or are you speCIAL? Did you do this to yourSELF?
( ...he likes technology he has a lot of questions )

[The shade actually makes it easier to see, in a way, how the left iris in particular is surrounded by tiny rings of light, and both pupils have a distinct shape like the power symbol on a computer (please do not poke it). The right eye seems fairly normal aside from the iris, though, and the left... has a bit of a crystalline sheen to it, if he looks closely enough.
Add will actually hold still and stare long enough for Natsume to have a good look at it, surprisingly. Maybe it's because he's already been appeased with flattery.]
... kukuku, do you like it...? Technology of this type is quite rare, where I'm from. Some would even consider it a lost art... unfortunately, I can't take credit for its creation, nor the installation.
[that...... would be a topic he'd rather not discuss in depth, so let's just focus on] Dynamo is something I created, though. Or, to be more precise, the Nasod originally linked to my chip was damaged so it had to be rebuilt from scratch... design, construction, programming and upkeep are all my work.

Aren't you quite the technological geniUS. The most I've managed is create the SVRS—Switch Virtual Reality SysTEM. It's left the prototype stages at LEAST, and it has plenty of funding due to a presentation I held last YEAR, but it hardly compares to the type of work you've managed HERE.
( ...Virtual reality simulators are no joke; he had the money and the materials and advice, and you know what happens later? It gets used in the second part of the main !!-era story for a full-fledged JRPG-esque VR experience, it's insane, Natsume's God complex jumps out. )
I know this school's technology is a little lackING, being stuck in the late 90s, but I hope you haven't found it too difficult to do maintenance on IT.

Virtual reality system... as in, an artificial reality simulation? I've seen research into such topics, but it's not something I've had time to pursue personally. Nasod tech in the past focused more on physical machines and constructs, but there were some individuals who recorded their research on replicating sensory input to simulate fabricated experiences... I believe it may have once been considered as a possible "haven" free of Elrian rule, but the idea was scrapped because of the war...
... ah, but never mind that. [remembering that he's having a conversation, right, attention is back on Natsume] Tell me more about this SVRS. Programming a virtual reality system is completely different from ocular implants or drone controls, so they're not really comparable. What sort of reality was it designed to simulate? Was it being designed for a specific use? Compatibility is also an interesting subject, if implants such as my own are uncommon in your world then is it designed to interface with natural human senses, and if so, how high is the rate of immersion despite those limitations? What sort of energy output does such a simulation require in order to run?

Initially it was for testing a game that would simulate one of my unitmate's peculiar and unique ability to see people's coLORS, though we've had the idea to expand it for other uSES... I believe there's been talks of running other types of simulations in IT, though that'd need a great more funding than we get from our agency proPER. IdealLY, I'd like to use it to enhance our audience's show-viewing experieNCE, showing them a world no other unit in Ensemble Square CAN.
( the entertainment focus is important, given he's an idol, so. )
You could say it was primarily a pet project to get attention and money to further our name and standing THOUGH, but it's been extremely rewarding to work on it beSIDES. ( sighs when will he get it back... maybe for fun instead of one of my outfits i get him the svrs back instead ) The rate of immersion is rather HIGH, and microtransactions to get boosts or things to make you comfortable—or perceived comfortability—are available in-GAME. As far as energy output goes howeVER, you can simply plug it in and run it as you might any other conSOLE, though I suppose if it were a more large-scale project—think of simulating an entire school such as THIS, for example—it might take something more maniFOLD...
( hmm... )
Virtual reality is something I'm still looking into mySELF, but the headset I used for my prototype was a rather immersive experience going by its test subject's USE... It could be better THOUGH. ( a sigh. ) It'd be interesting to be able to replicate the feeling of pain and such in virtual reality TOO, but, even putting aside being HERE, I'm not exactly in a position at the moment to pursue such research at the moMENT. I've got a lot of other work to handle FIRST.
