( it starts out small. a need for comfort food, and a need for something heartfelt but silly and fun, something genuine and kind. ... and, well, she did find a weird. bootleg vhs set of her favorite movie series, hamster space wars. but the dorm is only barely furnished- and it's not like they can just go out and buy a tv or anything. honestly she completely doubts there's even anything beyond the woods. but she remembers a teacher playing the thing and other stuff in the first month of all of this. 

it's so long ago...

but there's a television and a vhs player in the school. and nene... nene's tired and sad and is currently out of fucks to give, so at some point in the day, after everyone else has left, nene has returned to the school and, uh. "borrowed" both things. it's fine. they just have to get it back in by sunday evening. don't worry about it. like, it's definitely heavy but she's a tough cookie who tills soil and everything, and also sara and noah both witnessed everything and are accomplices by default, so they had to help carry things too. 

(they were completely happy to help on both accounts, she asked very nicely.) 

so the "borrowed" television is set up across from one of the larger couches, and the vhs on top of it. she had cookies in the oven, donuts and hot chocolate made and popcorn popped. the common room paintings are covered with sheets of cloth. all that was left was something cozy- but at this point, nene's made so many little cushions and blankets and even cozy pjs that that's super easy. all that was left was letting anyone who wanted to come know too. so at some point in the halls, nene walks down calling out: )

Cartoons in the common room! Bring blankets and stuff! 

( and, so everyone knows what their characters are getting into: hamster space wars is a movie series about different factions of hamsters that have been trying for cross planetary peace for ages now, with a villainous faction having sabotaged the final negotiations so they can control the war from the shadows to make the most money and also get the most seeds (Very Decadent). the first movie follows the main hamster and his little group trying to escape the villains after having witnessed the sabotage, and are trying to avoid assassination and end the war for good. the sequels follow allied factions, with hamster galactic wars being the Thrilling Conclusion. 

it's heartfelt. it's silly. it's very cute. nene loves it. )

Well… Familiar is a relative term. They never made a full contract as far as I’m aware. He just kind of hangs around Rin.

[He wasn’t going to get into the details of it. He didn’t know how much Rin was keeping a secret, other than ya know… having a tail and all that. Didn’t know how anyone could look at him and think he’s a normal human, though, considering he has fangs and pointed ears.]

But he basically looks like that. Has some white patterns, a red collar. He can get really big too. Size of a mini van or bigger.

[Noah doesn't know too-too much about Rin, but he's assuming that Rin is a half-elf actually — because Clamor is a half-elf and their ear shapes are roughly the same — and where Noah comes from, something like a half-demon isn't all that odd either. Rosso's a half-demon, Rosso has pointy ears. The point of this is, Noah really has no judgement to pass, but he's preeeetty sure Rin is elven.]

Do they have a spirit pact? Erm... That's the same thing as a familiar, right...

[Yukio snorted, covering his mouth this time with his hand instead of the coffee since that was definitely not going to muffle the noise. The softness and innocence of the question had Yukio dying a little bit.

That was cute.]

No, just a mutual agreement. Kuro used to be our father's familiar, but when he passed Rin took over but a contract was never fully revised.

[Also, how do you explain a minivan to someone who doesn't know what a minivan is?]

It's... a large car. Roughly 16 feet long.

[Why are you LAUGHING at him Yukio!! Now his face is red because he's EMBARRASSED way to GO!!

...but he listens to Yukio's next statements with a little nod. Passing on a spirit contract sounds... tough, so maybe it's for the best that it's only an agreement. Regardless...

Noah... vaguely knows cars. Given that, he nods a bit, and mutters out,]

Oh... so a small airship, then? [Nods.] ...do you have airships where you come from?

[He's still smiling, the laugh having been silenced now but the smile of amusement was still very much there.]

We have some yes. Though they're called airplanes... or blimps.

[He waved his hand around a bit, humming to himself.]

I can draw one if you'd like, though I will warn you I am an awful artist.

Airplanes...

[He says the word like it's lame, because it totally is. Airships are objectively cooler, they have like, cannons and shit on them. Which means you can bomb people out of the sky! Which is cool!]

I don't mind "bad" art. Here. Show me.

[Just slides his sketchbook and pencil over, here you go Yukio please complete him a drawing of your sky contraptions thank you. Maybe even a minivan... he'll take all of the above.]

[He taps the pencil on the paper for a couple of seconds before he starts drawing. It's a master piece of an airplane and at the bottom corner he draws minivan.

[Oh man Sara's going to be so jazzed when she finds out that Noah's figured out what a minivan is.]

[Well, they're 1 for 1 on making each other turn red tonight for various reasons, so in some ways they're even. Not like Noah's going to point out that someone's blushing because, well, he's Noah. Let's just keep that topic off the table.]

[This is now two introverts with Issues trying to talk to each other, hoo boy.]

If you put your mind to it, you'll get better at drawing. That's... that's how that works.

I think if I get good at drawing Rin might actually get upset. He says I’m already good at everything.

But he leans back and is now just watching Noah.]

[Noah's not oblivious to being watched, but he plays it cool like he totally is and goes back to sketching while talking. Yes, it is a cat. A very fluffy cat, in fact. No he's totally not remotely embarrassed by eyes being on him, shh.]

Are you? [Scribble, scribble,] What, like... uh... school? Or cooking?

Cooking is more Rin's thing. I can't boil water without something going wrong.

[That's not true, he can make instant noodles pretty well.]

I mostly excel in academics and sports. I'm a doctor, so I'm at least a little smart.

[He once asked Nene how to fry a rice because he thought you fried the individual grains, okay? He thought this. He was so sure.

You're— you're a doctor?! But you're not— you look like my age?!

[Yeah, that's usually the reaction he gets. He chuckles softly, rubbing the back of his neck.]

Yeah. I was actually a teacher for Anti-Demon Pharmaceuticals, but I graduated as a Doctor when I was thirteen, among other things.
