[There's an inherent tension in the sentence, because he's been one of those people more than once. And yet he also vividly remembers Narumi's weak breathing and Kanna's horrible belief her death would make everything better.
He used to think people were only cruel because they enjoyed it, because they could, because they didn't know what it was like to be powerless. His world's increasingly messier than that and he's still not sure how to resolve it.
Has he backed himself into a bit of a corner? But... surely everyone knows of Sara at least a little bit. She's the sort of person to get involved with everyone else... Also should he let two similar people meet, would there be some kind of explosion... no, that's stupid.]
