Good afternoon! I’ve decided to break up the monotony and the dreadful tones we’ve had over this past week with a little game. It’s a scavenger hunt of sorts, because I have information on some of the murders that you all haven’t figured out.

But I’m not going to just give it to you, so you’ll have to participate!

I’ll give you the first clue.

[well...the pillow book sure is not what zaki-chan had in mind, but it's not like they're going to complain if they find the next clue, incorrectly or not.

nearby though, there's about five books that are jutting out, not perfectly in line with the rest of the shelf...

the books, should he get closer are:

those are

mostly mystery books, if subaru remembers right? eichi's canonically talked about war and peace before, unfortunately, and hounds of the baskervilles has come up too... but subaru isn't a big reader, so unfortunately these refs are lost on him.

( komaeda's already at the library since he suggested the location anyway — the pillow book may have been wrong, but at least it was an alternative. he'll check his pda first, and then check at the books from behind to make sure each and every one is accurate. )

A class would be Crime and Punishment.

( he says lightly, his eyes look through subaru for a moment as he reaches out for the specific book. )

It focuses on the mental anguish and moral dilemmas of Rodion Raskolnikov, an impoverished ex-student in Saint Petersburg who formulates a plan to kill an unscrupulous pawnbroker for her money. The others are also interesting, which one would you like me to tell you about?

[well, since Subaru has already picked up a book--

he picks up the Black Dahlia book first. when he opens it, a spider lily seems like it's been pressed into the middle of the pages. it falls to the ground.

( to have subaru latch onto him causes him to flinch, and he's still for a moment as he still holds onto the book — crime and punishment, a bust that has a little smiley face drop out while the other is pressed against him.

...he pauses, looking towards the other, but he lacks the energy to remove his arms, and instead he stares at the other four (he didn't see the initial one subaru got his hands on) books that they can look through. he glances at the book that the other mentions, and komaeda remembers this one, he's always been interested in detective and mystery novels as a whole, so it's easy enough to give a summary as he puts the one book in his hand back, and offers it to subaru instead. )

You're correct... James Mortimer called upon Sherlock Holmes to come investigate the death of his friend, Sir Charles Baskerville, who supposedly died of a heart attack. Though the expression he wore doesn't match what one would have during that sort of death, and because of Sir Charles fears, they believed it was nothing more but the Baskerville Curse. The hound... like a rabid, feral dog would kill those within the family, but it was stupid... easily tricked if you trade clothes... the way they were able to kill the hound was by laying bait, and that's using someone else relevant to the case.

[subaru detaches to pick up the fallen smiley face, listening to the summary and putting the picture on... another shelf i guess... and then he'll take the book offered to him and open it up to flip through the pages.

and even if he seems to brush off the praise with his follow-up words, he does seem genuinely happy, with a note of pride in his voice.]

I just couldn't think of any other reason you'd mention a book, that's all~. Was it a real dog doing it? Or someone that pretended to be one?

[smiley face, flower... what's next. maybe it won't be a dud.]

( he'll check his pda since it keeps digging, and his name is attached to subaru's message anyway as he listens to him. each one of amami's little clues makes komaeda hum in thought — )

( he's silent for a moment, and then he looks up at subaru. )

[... he'll check his pda-- oh, huh, weird. angels and gods huddled together...?]

Uh, I guess so. They're supposed to be good spirits that watch over people and make sure they don't get into trouble or something like that, bring about divine... punishments and all... They're super pretty though.

( there's a small smile as he looks down at the book in subaru's hand, and he points at it thoughtfully. )

Those type of beings are meant to... watch over a group of people, govern them... see how they change... to do that... they give everyone a test, but that angel's first thought wasn't to wipe away everything, instead... they wanted to see if the masses could change their mind...

( he looks up at subaru's comment, and he thinks about it, before he nods since he has a point. ) They are super pretty, though...

( with that said, he'll grab another one of the books while subaru holds onto the one about sherlock. )

at the question though, subaru looks down at the book in his hands. easier to hide his expressions like this if they give away just how shaken he is by walking into school and finding a horror house. his tone doesn't give anything away, but maybe the casualness of his manner is enough of a hint.]

Some of the ground floor ones... Tali-san, Shepherd-san, and Ishiban took a better look at the poor kid who got halfed and another on the office side of the school, [hard not to peek down and see all that blood when you're curious teen,] but I know all of them were hung up on the ceiling by ropes. I dunno why though.

( he hums in thought, thinking about all the bodies that were hung up by rope... how interesting. probably rope that came from the art room, but why did they decide to hang them out, what is that meant to display. )

Always, I've tied myself to the ceiling and been tied up by others, then thrown into a room afterwards.

Murder and mystery is the easiest association to make. But perhaps, given the inclusion of Tolstoy, we're looking for tragedy and philosophy instead. Or they may weave into each other. I admit one of the titles on that list is unfamiliar to me, however.
