?????? 10/8
WHO: All of Yogen
WHAT: Something is brewin...about to begin.....
WHEN: 10/8 afternoon
WHERE: Everywhere!
WARNINGS: ┐(´ー`)┌ Will update if needed.
[sometime in the afternoon, after the student council wraps up for the day, someone takes control of the overhead system. the voice sounds some sort of way, but it starts anyway.]
Good afternoon! I’ve decided to break up the monotony and the dreadful tones we’ve had over this past week with a little game. It’s a scavenger hunt of sorts, because I have information on some of the murders that you all haven’t figured out.
But I’m not going to just give it to you, so you’ll have to participate!
I’ll give you the first clue.
“On the rare occasion that the average detective takes a break, he needs somewhere to store his things. Small, perhaps, but he may have something deadly to hide!”
Let’s see how you do!
[the audio cuts off...
but then a message pops up on the message boards.]
u can help each other out!! but u gotta do a little bit of leg work!! u wont win just by sitting around talking 2 each other on here!!
remember: friendship is magic!!! (˶◕‿◕˶✿)
oh, oh, oh!!
You have until midnight to find me.
Fail, and face erasure of the facts.

Well, when he decides to make himself useful, anyway. That's not very often. Maybe somebody had made a good impression on him? Or maybe he was just bored. Who knows. It's as impossible as it ever has been to tell what Ranger is thinking from his blank look, masked by a card. Either way, he notes the two devices without much interest. ]
... Hm? Whatchya got there?
[ He's pretty sure he recognizes the laptop. The floppy disk... Well, he can only make an educated guess. ]

...it could be worse, after all. Could be Komaeda. He turns, lifting his head a little, that same glint in his eyes. He's learnt by now this sort of thing fills him with a once-forgotten energy.]
You'll see.
[How much does Ranger know about this arena? He didn't really have much of a deep dive look around Ranger's chip when he had it - time was too much of the essence - but even at a hurried skimming for things of use in escape there was so much in there pertaining to Asunaro, the facility, everything, it was honestly amazing. Was that sort of thing included as part of the 'inheritance'?]
...
[He decides he's had his fun being deliberately obtuse and gives like, a brief two sentence description of what it is for the group's benefit with a glance away; getting everyone on the same page of what it is without Inaba having to trawl through it or me having to open twenty futile google tabs.]

Instead, he gets straight to the point: ]
Well, you got that right. That's way better than starting from scratch. Damn, that would take forever.
[ He wrinkles his nose in displeasure at the thought. Just typing it all out would be a damn nightmare, especially on a crappy little laptop. Then, as though answering some unspoken question, he adds: ]
We-ll, if it's ASUNARO's code, it should be a cinch to work with. Company has no use for anyone who can't even keep up with their prodigies, y'know... Ahaha, 'kay, let's see what we can do~
[ There's a hint of something in those last words - a slight threat, but not to anyone save himself. Fear, perhaps? After all, an AI should be able to far exceed its human creators. It's there and gone in an instant, like a wisp of smoke.
Well, at least he seems willing enough to be helpful for once. Distaste for present company aside, this was at least something familiar. Perhaps out of habit, he glances to Inaba. ]

Yeah, it'd definitely take a while, especially with this year's shitty tech--so having a base to work with helps.
[Look, she's not going to lie about that much.]
Let's see what we can do here... what should we try out first~?
[There may be a playful lilt to her voice because she's getting a little excited to see what can be done here. Not to mention that she's finally in her element.]

Hmmm... The start really was always the hardest, wasn't it? ]
If you can get access to the network, the rest oughta be easy. Plenty of ways to skin a cat and all that. You figured that one out yet?
[ It is, for once, a genuine question. It hadn't really sounded like it before, but he'd welcome the surprise at this point. Either way, though, it would give a decent starting point. ]

If we can just triangulate their location... everything else will just be Rue's, after all. They have to have that place they'll be waiting until midnight... if they're committed to being fair about this, anyway. Probably somewhere they can keep an eye on things too... That sort of thing's hard to resist, it looks like.
[He's been keeping a close eye on the network and whoever it was knew that Rantaro had dropped a clue on the ground... feeling of being watched intensifies. He has a hard-earned nose for these kinds of games.]

[Inaba is clearly implying that yes, people can in fact, go on their PDAs and tell lies.]
Getting access to the network might be important anyway--not just for this, but, maybe for future stuff, too.
[After all, she wants to know if there are any oddities in there. She can't help but be curious.]
But getting their location should definitely be our first priority.

[ Really, all games were founded on the idea of trust. However much deception and cruelty there was, there also had to be an adequate level of trust - the one running it had to trust players to see it through, and players had to believe they could achieve their goal. If you burned them one too many times, they'd stop playing... Though if he'd been doing this for as long as he'd said, perhaps he would have be adept at taking those risks. There were plenty of people who would put their lives on the line for a game.
No point in worrying about that now, either way. Ranger wasn't really playing to begin with, but just one more reason not to if it's unwinnable.
Shifting back to the idea of the network, he waves the PDA. ]
'Kay, so all that information should be on this guy, right?
[ Or at the very least, it could be possible to rig it as a hotspot or something similar; there were plenty of options. Which, Ranger assumes, means there was another issue with either connecting it or extracting information from it - it's not like there was much that could be done with the built in features. Might as well ask. ]

Yep, let's hook it up.
[I've been assuming they're doing this in the workshop, so there probably is a connecting cable within easy finding and handing over reach.]

[She sounds rather interested--and more than that, there's excitement. Because if this works, then there's a whole world of opportunities to be shown. She's so glad that her expertise is for this sort of thing.
But if it doesn't work, then -
That's just another thing to be frustrated over.
Time to plug in!]
