No, why would he?
Yukio doesn't know how to make friends, okay? He's trying.
And that trying involves leaving a note on Noah's locker and standing by the vending machine like an idiot.
What if Noah just didn't go to his locker today? What if he found it like five hours from now? Was Yukio expected to wait that long or does he leave a note here too?
hey, sorry I missed you I'm an idiot see you next time
Yeah.
It's fine though, Noah's here now and Yukio could stop stressing that he's coming off like a creep.]
I figured the both of us could use a bit of downtime.
no subject
Yeah. [A nod.] I've been on picnics before, but never vending machine picnics. There's a first time for everything, I guess.
[However rough it sounds, Noah punctuates that statement with a little half-laugh.]
Should we have brought blankets from the dorms to sit on?
no subject
[See, Yukio? There were better ways to do this. Springing a random ominous note on Noah's locker was not one of them probably.]
We could probably get some from the nurse's office, now that i think about it.
no subject
...we could, but I'd feel bad for getting them on the dirty floors. [Sick people use those blankets. Also, Noah regularly steals from the nurse's office. He can't risk it.] We can forgo them this time.
[But next time, blankets are in order. Which implies there'll be a next time, actually... not the point. Noah approaches the vending machines to look them over, indecisive as ever — one time Childe got him cotton candy from these, is that a good snack? Clamor would say no...]
What's... what's your favourite vending machine snack?
[The small talk is going well.]
no subject
Mostly because he didn't know how to deal with what he's caused.]
I'm more of a savory and salty kind of guy. You?
no subject
I'm not actually picky about food. I couldn't afford to be. I was always adventuring too much to do that.
...I can't eat peaches, though. Apparently, I'm allergic.
[He says it kind of bitterly, because he likes peaches, but when he mentioned to Clamor a while back that they made his face burn, Clamor had told him not to eat them. Because he's allergic. Who would've thought?
Noah taps his PDA against the vending machine scanner and secures himself some cotton candy.]
If one of the adults had a say in it, I'd be eating the trail mix right now.
[Noah may or may not be a gremlin in the smallest ways.]
no subject
Once Noah had gotten his snack, he stepped up and pulled out his PDA.]
I'll keep that in mind, then.
No peaches.
[He pack of strawberry pocky.
It's been a while since he's had some of these, and he was in the mood for something sweet.]
no subject
...are those stick-thingies good?
[He's seen them in the vending machine before, obviously, but he's never tried them. As much as Noah's not a picky eater, he tends to go with things that are familiar to him.]
no subject
Pocky?
Yeah, they're like little biscuits covered in some kind of flavoring. This one is strawberry, but there's chocolate, matcha, green tea. Some fruits, too, like banana and blueberry and mango.
[He opens the box and the little packet, pulling one stick out and holding it out for Noah.]
No peaches.
no subject
Oh.
[That "oh" comes out flatter than he'd intended. Noah reaches out to take the stick though, inspecting it curiously before he just takes a bite. So much for that whole spiel about how he tends to stick to things that are comfortable; he'll try anything once, if it's offered out to him anyway.]
...oh, it is good. Thanks.
[And he sits then, to tear into this bag of cotton candy, offering out a tuft to Yukio in kind, conversationally adding,]
Do you normally get to eat stuff like that, where you come from? [Elrios sucks actually.]
no subject
Yeah, you can usually get some at the stores. Chips, soda, candy, chocolate. You could usually get those anywhere.
no subject
Noah's beginning to wonder why everyone in purgatory is cool. Shouldn't purgatory be for the worst of the worst? Isn't that the point of a purgatory? Why is he eating pocky with Yukio in purgatory? This doesn't sound like divine punishment or whatever!]
Oh. ...that makes sense. When I was on the road a lot, Clamor and I stopped off at inns and restaurants along the path. Walking from Northern Lanox all the way to Elrianode was something.
[It was a long-ass trip, and luckily people live between those two places.]
I was never picky about food, though. I'd just eat whatever we could afford. ...have you ever eaten firebird eggs?
[Noah, most places do not have firebirds.]
no subject
[Was that just a phoenix, he wondered?]
Dad made ostrich eggs once. Those are huge. Roughly.... this big. [He holds his hands out to mimic the size of the egg.
Definitely not the same thing.]
no subject
Ostrich [Noah makes a face.] What's an ostrich? Some kind of bird? Firebird eggs are probably half that size.
[Noah makes vague motions to show Yukio the size, roughly about that of a hawk egg.]
no subject
It's a very large flightless bird. About 7 to 9 feet tall. It has really long legs and can run about 43 miles per hour.
no subject
[Noah pauses... what weird animals do they have on Elrios... oh!]
We have crabs the size of... uh... just a bit shorter than me, actually. I was told that that's not... normal?
[They also eat people.]
no subject
But the biggest crabs on land are called coconut crabs... Roughly your size.
[He gives him a little smile. Just a little one.]
