toss a coin to your detectives, o' valley of mystery

WHO: Nene Yashiro, Shuichi Saihara, Senku Ishigami, White
WHAT: A discussion of some clues about the school itself
WHEN: The day before the fire.

( nene had asked senku and shuichi to meet up in shuichi's class two hours after all the normal kids would have gone home. admittedly, they might wind up having to move to the library... which is why she's carrying a stack of loose lined paper and three pencils. carefully buried under  colorful wrapped candies in her pocket is the coin she found during spring break, still heavy both in reality and in her mind. but then, that's why she asked them to come! )

Thanks for coming! Aaand sorry for springing this on you so suddenly, but um. Saihara-san already knows that I found something- it was hidden inside a pin cushion in the home economics room.

( with care, she removes the coin from her pocket and places it on the desk. )

I thought maybe you might recognize from something since you've been in the library? Or maybe recognize the script. ( she's addressing senku here, but turns to shuichi next. ) It hasn't been too long, but have you noticed anything else?

[ Saihara-san... It's a little distracting to be addressed so politely, and he ends up dwelling on it for almost a second too long -- just enough to look way more startled than he should when he's put on the spot yet again not long after. ]

U-Um.

[ His voice kind of catches in his throat as he tries, because the impulse to answer is certainly there, as a reflex response to the question but... no other part of him was prepared. He hadn't thought... it would come back to him already, so he hadn't exactly formulated what to say. ]

Well... A-Ah, nothing new, but... I suppose I should mention what I said to Yashiro-san before. The coin has a bird with two heads engraved on one of the sides, correct? I was able to find that same symbol on a few of the posters in the library... I think it's some kind of less utilized emblem.

[ Because, as they'll all notice if they look, the one on their uniforms which is the most widely seen one, doesn't have the same thing. ]

Looking up symbolism seemed consistent, as well. The two-headed crow is apparently considered a bird of prophecy. It matches the meaning in the name of the school -- Yogen -- so maybe reading the text on the coin could explain a bit more.

[ He picks up the coin that Nene placed down on the desk, giving it a bit of a look-over. Now, his eyesight is great, but lettering on a coin as old as this is going to make someone squint. ]

Hmm...

[ He listens to Shuichi talk as well, scanning the coin over and over again. He wasn't able to make out anything legible on it. ]

Oh yeah, Yogen no Tori, I believe. It's a yokai, but one with more benevolent origins if I remember correctly.

[ He remembers combing over paranormal sciences in his studies, and of course his dad would regale him with scary stories every now and then when he was younger. Yokai were bound to come up at some point. ]

Unfortunately, I haven't found anything to do with it in the library. It does look like there used to be words and a date on the coin too, but they're pretty illegible. They're very old, so I'm not too surprised by that.
