💻 Programming & Robotics Club Mingle 🤖
Who: Club members & anyone else who feels like dropping by!
When: October, during club hours after class ends
What: ??? club shenanigans
Warnings: TBA... please do not murder anyone in the workshop, there's delicate equipment in here
Programming/Robotics Club is held in the workshop on the 2nd floor of the school. There's no official schedule, mainly because Add tends to just... live in the workshop, basically, so club members are welcome to show up whenever. The room is generally kept tidy, with supplies and scrap electronics stored in a locked closet while the room isn't in use. Two highly advanced computers are available for anyone to use, or you can build/bring your own computer.
Before you can enter club area, however, you first must get past the club bodyguard...
Yeah, this fucking thing is stationed by the door now. Anyone not identified as a club member may or may not get picked up and dunked in the nearest trash can. Or maybe you'll get random junk pelted at you until you leave. Or maybe it'll attack you even if you are a club member or given permission to enter... it's a work in progress. Please be patient with our good pal Ball Monokuma, he's still learning.

When he's not occupied with the claw project, though, he's likely trying to make adjustments to Ball Monokuma's programming. Is the weird ball robot harassing you? Direct your complaints to this guy, maybe he'll decide to give a shit.
Dynamo is also always nearby, fetching tools and other supplies for Add when its not busy projecting holoscreens full of data for him. It may also fetch items for other club members if asked nicely. Dynamo is trying its best.]
add + dynamo
You're hard at work.
( it's no surprise, he thinks, considering part of add's braincell happens to be the drone he has with him, so it's like being able to gauge where komaeda is at all time. )
Mmm...
( mmmmmmm... it lingers, it's like komaeda wants to comment on something. )
no subject
Add is in the process of closing up the outer casing and checking the joints when Komaeda decides to show up. The arm is basically complete, at least for the first revision... he stands, lifting up the hefty beclawed arm with only a bit of a struggle.]
Take off your jacket. I need to make sure the connections are functioning correctly. [aka let him attach this monstrosity and see what happens]
The weight might need some more adjustments as well, it'll probably feel unbalanced... I already made modifications, but it'll lose effectiveness if too much weight is taken off. Try to deal with it for now.
no subject
he doesn't reject the invitation, and instead does as he's told — he sits dynamo on his head (despite the fact it can float), and slowly he begins to undress himself. )
Ah... So my eyes didn't decieve me, it's not lightweight at all.
( because komaeda's dying and add's a twink too, but when it comes to durability and usefulness, maybe the weight does matter. he's fully removing his jacket, and the shirt he's wearing has a little hole at his chest which there's a hole from hangman crimes. )
Does it have a weakness? Is this weak to magic?
( there's a reason he's asking, don't worry, but he's also removing his shirt, too. make of this what you will, there's a few scars here and there, noticeable bruises along his side, around his shoulder but luckily there's no cut on his skin from where he stabbed himself with the knife either.
he places his clothes on the table, the stump of his arm visible, and he waves it at add to say hello. )
no subject
BUT ANYWAY what the fuck, he asked to take the jacket off why is Komaeda undressing... Add stares at this like he's half expecting the pants to come off next, but thankfully it's just the top half. okay, fine, he could've just rolled the sleeve up but sure.
his attention only lingers on the scars and bruises briefly before he gets to work, reattaching the arm to the stump the same as it was before... except now with a big heavy claw at the end. he takes his time with it, though, since there are plenty of ways the device could malfunction, and knowing Komaeda...]
Magic is just the manipulation of energy. I've improved the insulation to be more shock resistant, but I can't do anything about heat or cold resistance without better materials. [which he could've done if they'd just used Raven's arm as the base, but Komaeda was insistent on keeping his original arm intact... and as annoyed about it as he sounds, Add still chose to honour that request.] It might feel a bit unusual at first. Nasod prosthetics utilize the host's mana to form a connection to the brain, but since your arm was already functional through a different method I left those physical movements under the same control scheme. It's the auxiliary features that will require use of the Nasod core connection, and since you don't have an adapter chip... well, it'll probably be fine. Try not to activate anything dangerous.
[and those are the best encouraging-and-not-ominous words Add can offer before the arm clicks into place]
no subject
now he has that and add's craftsmanship all in one, and there's this burning sensation, an unsettling flip in his stomach while looking down at the newly acquired arm he's wearing. he lifts it up, fingers clicking together at the point as he uses the light above to look through the sharp gaps, before turning it around to inspect the hole within the middle. his other organic hand reaches out to trace the shape, not too sure how he should handle that. it's an entirely new experience that's different from the original — the previous arm was just a normal prosthetic with data and wires that showed excellent work from those who crafted model. it was built for a human like komaeda, but this feels like it's taking something as he sits.
maybe that's what he's thinking, or that part of him is beginning to dissociate with the fact of something new and unfamiliar attached to his body. he doesn't understand it like he does hope, and he wonders what he can call this that's mixed with the work of ultimates — was he wrong for allowing this to happen, or is this that connection between those who lack talent mixed with talent that makes it a stronger foundation for previous work? his organic hand reaches over to grab his shoulder, holding it still as he looks up at add amused by this. )
You said not to do anything dangerous... if the controls come from my brain, or the nerves of my arm, the same result will happen.
( because either way, komaeda's brain doesn't function properly, and his nerves want to do things that he forces himself not to. some days, he'll cut food while he's cooking, and then think of the knife slicing through his organic hand — this body is meaningless anyway, trash that can be easily discarded, but even with those thoughts; he smiles still. he'll slowly try to get to his feet, weight lingering to one side, and he takes a couple steps trying to regain his balance. he tilts into a table nearby, claws flexing out as they dig into the surface of the table — whether it's metal or wood, tell me how far those sharp claws dig into. )
It's heavy, though... what's the worst that can happen with Nasod technology attached to a human, you said it takes mana... especially if I want your work to be used to its full capabilities.
( underlying meaning? is his life on the line? )
no subject
i'm just gonna assume the tables are wood or particle board or whatever, but i rolled a 14 so I guess he doesn't totally destroy it trying to balance himself. Add still cringes at the gashes that get carved into the table, thinking back to all the times he's seen Raven effortlessly crush and slice through monsters with those claws...
He picks up the few tools he'd left on that table and moves them over to a different workbench. There.]
Full capabilities... kek, compared to the half-Nasod that claw belonged to? My expectations are low, so don't bother trying to impress me. [it's phrased rudely, but... he's doing this because he wants to see what happens, wants to see what Komaeda could do with this technology merged with his own, and to give Komaeda a way to better defend himself... so it's fine if he can't use it to its full potential. that was never Add's intent with this project.]
I told you before... safety measures are in place, so it'll shut down automatically if energy levels are critical. General use shouldn't cause any problems. I also turned the settings down, so it should only be capable of low-power output for this test.
[but they do have features that need testing, so] How does it feel? Stiff, loose...? Try lifting up your arms. Sit down again if you need to.
no subject
Ahaha... I couldn't impress you if I tried, it's more about the creator seeing if their efforts are up to their standards.
( it's never about him, but about how add feels about his work is how komaeda sees it, but maybe add's work reflects his own hopes, and to leave someone like komaeda with this... he wonders, why? yes the idea has gone through his head many a time, how it could be chipped to keep track of where he goes, and what he does, but the morality between them wouldn't do much to cripple his efforts — add's a man of science, and komaeda's a man of hope, nothing the latter does effects the former. if komaeda killed, he doesn't believe add would say much for it or against it, as long as he isn't slighted in the least. )
Tight.
( he answers, lifting the arm from the table, claws clicking together as he watches add's eyes fire and foremost to see what part interests him. even though he's tinkered with the power of the arm, there's this constant surge of something that bothers komaeda — and again there's this vague twitch from the pinky finger of the device. he wonders if mixing the work of an ultimate, and add's diligent craftmanship was the right idea — he isn't sure how they handled something tinkering around with this arm, and knowing those two, they probably wouldn't want anyone "damaging" it at all. rather than finding a chair, he's pushing himself onto the table so that he can sit down, and even with the arm settled right next to him, another flinch of the finger will catch add's eye. komaeda turns the hair around to show it off to add, komaeda's fingers picking at the casing of the arm to see if it's easier to open or not — maybe he shouldn't touch that. )
I'll get used to it... ( he inhales, and there's a snap, crackle sound... small, nothing too big from komaeda's arm.
... ) Is that one of the skills?
no subject
Then an unpleasant crackling snaps him out of his daze. Add frowns, unable to hide the concern on his face—he didn't mess something up, did he? He was being careful with connecting everything together, it shouldn't be making a sound like that... he reaches for the arm, leaning in close to press his ear to the metal forearm, then pulling away to check the joints again, running various scenarios through his head on what it could possibly be.]
No... it shouldn't be making that sound. Hang on. [it was difficult enough to convince Komaeda to let him work on something so precious, what would he think if Add broke it...?
Dynamo starts to jitter a little, almost like a nervous tic, though it's still keeping itself firmly balanced on Komaeda's head... it's fine. everything's totally fine. it's probably just something minor, maybe a screw he forgot to tighten all the way, something small and easy to replace...]
Where does it feel tight? Be more specific.
no subject
Did I move too much?
( he doesn't realize the problem between it and add, but perhaps that's a good thing, because he doesn't believe the other could ruin his arm, and maybe that's why the idea doesn't come to him. besides, allowing add to even touch this arm — the last bit of hope komaeda has pieced to him, everything else about himself is disposable, but the arm is loved, and can be kept by the masses. his gaze lowers now as he watches add scurry over, and komaeda allows him to inspect it properly. )
Maybe it's all part of my imagination, I suffer from phantom pains...
( he points to to where the arm connects to his organic body, but it's not there, he finger points towards the "ulna" area of the prosthetic. it feels tight there despite there being no actual flesh, or perhaps the connection to the machine feels entirely connected to komaeda, and he feels things literally. who knows, komaeda doesn't know how this works either, so if it's all in his head, then it must be so. with add so close, there's a shiver that runs down komaeda's spine, and his claws click together simultaneously — freedom, just a sound that comforts komaeda perhaps (considering his other hand would whirr every movement), and now to hear something sharp like knives scrape together is new.
as for the sound, komaeda continues to keep his finger where he was pointing since he can tell from the way add looks over his arm, whatever that was he wants it gone. ) If you want, I can go and fetch your tools.
( he doesn't mind, especially when his legs dangle on the table, and he likes to stay on the move. he looks to add with interest, wondering if the other will allow him to assist despite the small problem that exists. it shouldn't post a problem walking about ten steps away from him, would it? ) It's new to me, but I'm honored you'd allow trash like me to utilize your intelligence within this arm... I feel as if Souda-kun and Ultimate Hope would be interested in your craft, too. ( seems like he didn't want to doxx the other name. )
no subject
No. You stay put. If there's a problem, then we should avoid introducing new variables.
Dynamo. [he calls out to it softly and the little drone lifts off, swooping over to Add's tools at the other table. Dynamo is his assistant, this is its job, so it makes more sense than having his "patient" move around. It can handle fetching a screwdriver.
still... there's something about Komaeda's comment that doesn't sit well, either. he reaches for the panel on the arm, making an effort not to make eye contact, but]
I wouldn't waste such valuable Nasod parts on "trash", so stop insulting my work. [that's about as close to "I don't think you're trash" as he's going to get right now.
unscrewing the panel, poking around inside to see if he can identify the source of the noise, etc]
no subject
when it comes to the arm, add will find that it's relatively fine, that there's nothing that could have started the snapping of circuits — what does snap however happens to be the hanging lights above them. they flash just a bit, but stop a few moments, and not too long after, it begins to dull in brightness. looking up, komaeda thinks about it, before glancing back to add. )
Hm... We should tap it a bit, it'd do no good if the lights went out. Do you want me to?
( or dynamo could do it so that komaeda isn't moving around too much. there is some unease where komaeda's sitting, doubling his wants to tap it from keeping the room from going completely black. )
no subject
Add? Do you have a moment?
no subject
Add is a difficult person to startle, especially with Dynamo around, but Helena wouldn't know that anyway, so... unfortunately, she's left standing there for awhile before Add pauses in his work, squinting at some chip he can't decide what to do with. He puts it down gently for now, glancing over at where Helena is standing.]
Depends. What do you want? [not said rudely, but not very politely either. she's someone he's deemed useful, though, so it wouldn't be wrong to interpret his response as "Add's definition of polite".]
no subject
[these are the sort of declarations to make to whoever's in charge, and Add acts in charge enough to make it seem like it. or no one is in charge, and she's just addressing it to him because she's had the impulse. whatever works.]
no subject
that's where the conversation would end... but he continues to stare at her for a moment longer. he's seen her frequenting the workshop, he knows she's been working on something, but he's been occupied with his own projects. maybe he can admit to being a little curious.]
Resources are limited, so I don't want them going to waste in the hands of amateurs... what have you been learning, exactly?
no subject
[she clasps her hands in front of her.]
I may be an amateur, but I want to do as much as I can to contribute.
no subject
... okay, maybe not so subtly, but regardless,]
Why do you want to learn it? A specific goal or outcome, maybe something long-term... if it was simple, it would make more sense to ask someone instead of going to this much trouble. Or is it just a "hobby" you've decided on?
no subject
she feels, vaguely, like Add is testing her - but it's a good thing. it makes sense, that he wants to understand her purpose. and it helps her finally put into words why she keeps coming back.]
It began as a hobby, yes, but it's become something I find some accomplishment in. I don't have a particular goal, other than to learn what I can - I know I'll never be able to construct and build in the same way others will, but I still feel like an entirely new section of the world is opened up. There are ways I can be a part of it, as long as I put in the hard work to understand it.
[shrugging, she has a little smile.]
So, as simple as that is, it's not something I could ask anyone else to do for me. It's not as magnificent a goal as wanting to make some kind of grand machine, but it is what it is.
no subject
If he were more like his father, perhaps he'd disapprove. Instead, Add emits a soft chuckle.]
Lack of sight is hardly insurmountable. With the right technology, most external senses can be bypassed entirely... keke, but it'd be troublesome to install a neural chip with these primitive resources. Your current methods will do for now.
Call on Dynamo if you require assistance. I'll allow it. [a whir and a soft beep from the little drone next to him, hell yeah]
