( he's been trying to get used to his newly worked on arm, his claws click together, the sound like two knives scraping against one another. add had modeled to the point where komaeda's able to handle the weight of it, not too off from his previous arm, and adjusting to it has been the plan for awhile now. when he reaches out from a jar within the dormitory's kitchen, he can see how the claws manage to make a cut into it, and if he moves his hand anymore, it'll completely shatter. letting it go, he keeps the item on the shelf as he removes his hand, pushing it to the side as he looks for another —

it doesn't take long though, like the other glass jars he has handled with this hand — it shatters after a few mere moments, and komaeda looks towards the door to see if anyone's came yet. luckily for him, he guesses every person who lives here is out, so it's just him for the moment. dropping his hand down to his side, he reaches up with his right to grab another jar, a skinnier one, without breaking it as he sets it down on the table. as he looks at what he's acquired, it's about nine jars, and a few rocks that he's put into separate batches — some bigger than others, but he seems to be entirely interested in the ones about 2cm and shiny since they're closest to the jars. there's also a variety of string that he's pulled from home ec in different colors, and a bag right next to them. )

I need one more...

( he'll walk forward now, the soles of his shoes cracking the glass on the floor as he steps on them while reaching for one more to make ten. )

( it's hard to ignore the shattering of glass when he steps into the dormitory, his ears picking up the sound even without needing any training. he stares in the direction of the kitchen, wondering if he wants to investigate, and decides that glass has a decent chance of cutting someone and he has the nifty trick of being able to heal really minor wounds now, so.

so to the kitchen he goes, where he stares, dismayed, at komaeda just. walking on glass, worsening the situation, and he will leave for a moment and return with a broom.

a broom that is first smacking komaeda's ass, whatever luck that comes out of it will be worth this, ugh. )

You should clean up before you hurt yourSELF, you absolutely LOON.

( natsume's in luck, because when he hits komaeda's ass which must be karma for what he did in rokuro's memory, he instantly jumps, forward, knees buckling that he falls face first, and his head hits the corner of the counter on his descent. he lifts a hand to his forehead, rubbing at the area, because there's no audible ow, it's just a bit of flinching as he's found himself on the floor with a pile of glass. he manages to avoid cutting himself because he hit his head, but that's fine so they won't get sent to the void.

at the sound of his voice, komaeda immediately looks up to see natsume, but he's even surprised the other came close to him willingly. )

Ah... Sakasaki-kun, I didn't mean to match too much noise. I'm still getting used to... ( he lifts left arm, bladed claws scraping against one another, and then he places his palms flat against the floor. ) Hm, I'll be out of your way soon, but do you happen to have any shiny pebbles?

( he's not interested in why komaeda has a new arm... he isn't... he's staring at it because attention was drawn to it, not because he's curious- )

...I do, and I'm more than willing to part from THEM. ( he can't share subaru's good faith, unfortunately. ) What are you going to use them FOR?

I'm part of the Survival Club, and it feels that we're always at risk of being shut down.

( that's because komaeda hardly goes to his clubs, he has about five, or six, but he goes where he wants depending on his interest. there are some places that he has value in than others, but he hasn't been right ever since hinata's feelings towards him had turned negative. it was suffocating to be in the same area that he frequented, so komaeda made it a habit to not go there from time to time. )

I want to help it in any way that I can when there's an opportunity available to me.

( his claws snap together, and he stares at the direction of natsume's golden eyes, seeing where they go, but makes no comment other than another snap. ) So I'm going fishing, ahaha! The method I used last time helped the club just a little, I hope it can do just that again.

( and now he's holding out his organic hand for the broom, can he haz it? )

( komaeda's not an extravagant cook, and he's nothing compared to the ultimate chef, but when he learned you can win cute prizes just by making meals with your peers, he thought, "why not?" it's particularly the easiest thing he could come by, because no one said it has to be good, and with that in mind, he excels in pure victory. there's already a booth made, a small stove connected to a part of it, and various foods to use in order to make something edible, along with blindfolds. the worst part is that he needs two other people to join in this endeavor, and he has to bring someone who will budge — too many people here are arrogant, and hardly listen which makes komaeda think they're hardheaded, but once he sees a familiar face — or faces — he's quick to pull his first prey over. )

Ranger-kun! You took so long, I thought you'd be here sooner.

( no, that's not what happened at all, komaeda just decided to turn ranger's business into business that involves him. it's here he explains the situation that if they cook for awhile, they can win cute animals, and once they win cute animals then they can trade for bigger animals. now the dilemma is that they need one more person, because even if ranger says no, komaeda has recruited him without taking no for an answer. )

Who would make a good partner for us... Do you have any ideas?

( even though he's asking ranger, his eyes happen to fall upon a familiar red scarf fluttering by. he knows that one can't fight back, and his eyes glance at ranger with silent curiosity and question of, "he'd do, right?" )

[ As usual, Ranger has no idea what or why he's been dragged into the current situation. He doesn't doubt that Komaeda had been waiting for him, but only insomuch as he had come to think of him as an easy mark. He nods along with the explanation though, and in the end he resigns himself to his fate just as readily as he always does. There was really no helping it, no more than there was when Ranger decided he was going to drag a person into something. That was just another feature of partnership. Besides, it seems pretty inoffensive.

He doesn't answer immediately, following Komaeda's gaze before looking back to him. He shrugs, flipping to the cat card and holding up his hand in a why not gesture. He was a huge pushover, and Ranger can't see any particular reason not to, but he can think of several ways in which that could wind up entertaining. ]

I mean, he's right there.

[ Have fun with that one, Komaeda. He's counting on you. ]

( they were meant to get him together because if shin ran to one side, someone else could get him from the other, but if they talk too much about it, he'll get away. long legs mean he can walk over a little faster, and once he's close enough, he'll reach out to pat the other's shoulder, his attempt to grasp his attention. if he acts normal enough, does shin have any reason to reject him, but the need to mess with him happens to be strong — it's probably due to his skittish nature that makes him so easy that komaeda can't help it. )

Tsukimi-kun! You're going to hang out with us now.

( to get a good hold onto him, komaeda's going to grab the end tails of his scarf, wrapping a bit of its length around his wrist like one would do a dog's leash to make sure they don't get far. with a little tug, nothing to degrading though komaeda has it in him, he points behind him to ranger so shin has an idea of what's going on. )

I heard you entered into that cooking contest, so you can show me and Ranger-kun a few tricks! Will you? You've got to be the best at it!

( he'd ask ranger "isn't that right," but he feels like that's not the best question to make shin match flow with them. )

[One of these days Shin is going to tuck his scarf in so that Komaeda can't do this... but that feels like it'd be admitting defeat. Shin please. His gaze flicks from Komaeda to Ranger with what can't be called suspicion so much as the incipient knowledge the two of them have to be up to something. He eyes the blindfolds on the stall itself and then the rest of the festival as if looking for exits.

He's trapped by social convention though, as is the way of these things. He can't even argue that either of them would be better at cooking than him, he's seen Komaeda do it and he doubts they put that into Ranger even if he is some sort of replacement for Kai. So it's putting the placeholder smile back on and getting through whatever this is as fast as possible.]

Ahaha, I wouldn't say the best... [It's mostly Soup Knowledge... which unfortunately this stall is set up for.] It's hard to mess this sort of thing up, though, isn't it?

[ Actually, Ranger would probably go along with it if he wasn't half-convinced that it'd be taken as a murder attempt or something equally insane. Besides, it's funnier this way. That said, he still shrugs when Shin looks to him with a look that suggests that he doesn't know why he's here either. He was also just minding his own business once upon a time.

When Shin asks his question, that gaze goes to Komaeda and he raises an eyebrow. ]

Eh, I dunno about that one. I think his plan was just to start throwing things in randomly and hope for the best.

[ He's not actually sure if that was the plan, but it also wouldn't surprise him. Komaeda seemed like he just wanted to get to the end right about now, and that sort of person was normally also the person who would take the shortest path to the end if left to their own devices. ]

Now, now... we should give everyone here some credit, I doubt any of us are actual chefs.

( when he looks at shin, he knows that he has a certain favorite, but his cooking skills probably aren't the best if they go by how skinny and stressed out he is... as for ranger, komaeda glances over, and he figures textbook answers will have rachel ray cook book directions, so it's fine here. what komaeda has is undeniable hope, and a palate made from rich eating, but due to his own health problems, it's no longer the best. )

One of the booths are allowing participants make food for one another, and because it's such a bonding experience, they'll allow us cute stuffed animals at the end. ( of the small set, but he's not going to explain in full when he can let shin think there's a chance to get the really big ones. he'll lift his hand that isn't holding the scarf to point at the array of stuffed animals, and then he drops it down by his side. ) You know Ranger-kun never did things like this, ( like he's fascinated by that, a whole gasp in the middle. ) so I don't want him to miss his chance!

( an added narrative, but not a lie as he takes a step forward, tugging the other along, and his free hand taps ranger shoulder's softly so he can lead the way. )

Since it's getting cold, making soup would probably be the best choice, what do you two think?

( and that's just flavored water, some meat and veggies, beans, and whatever else a person likes to put in. )

( admittedly, with the closing ceremony happening, nene didn't think anyone else would be up here on the roof- especially not with how cold it was. the last of the vegetables have been harvested, and nene would have to make a stop at the student store to order good winter seeds... or maybe she could ask one of the club members to do it. with how the fall vegetables fared, though, it wasn't a bad idea to keep fresh food available.

but that's not important. no, instead she's distracted by komaeda's presence, watching over the festivities like an outcast. ... and maybe he is. he still saw nothing wrong in his actions at the start of the year. he still idolized and raised pedestals and dehumanized while calling it love.

she shouldn't talk to him. but she gave up on that long ago.

and that's such an upsetting thing to think about anyways, when she's so tired of being hurt by loss. quietly, linking her fingers together behind her back, nene stands beside komaeda, looking up at him curiously. is he really content being up here at such a distance? )

( because he's going to go fetch his gemstones, along with some of the nicer looking rocks he got from rock gacha, and set them on the counter. there, for komaeda. )

[He's already doing this, geez. These things are falling onto one end of the scale, but on the other is that he's no stranger to Exact Wording or this sort of stacking of persuasion. Paradoxically, it's that he notices it that makes him a little more relaxed, even if he doesn't like that Komaeda knows what targets to aim for.]

( the nicer looking ones have a shine to them, perfect for what he needs as he separates them. he uses his organic hand to do this though, because using the arm that he has will only break them half. it seems like his arm poses more problems than helping, but he'll get used to this, no worries as he looks over the gemstones next. they look nice, does he really want them to get dirty? )

Have you ever went dragonfly fishing? They're out right now since this is primary mating season.

( with a smile, he snaps his claws together with a shing for the effect. )

I don't want to lose the club because I hardly show up. ( he's going to push a few of the rocks inside of the bag he has, and push a few jars to natsume to see if he'll take them because komaeda's inviting him. ) I bet your clubs were easier to maintain, do you mind helping us?

( oh, he should add this on. ) You can keep what you catch.

so like, a lot's happened... he's not much of a speeder in the first place... he tends to fall asleep doing this, actually, and even whining to have natsume help was to no avail...

but it's fine. even if it's taken all month, it's fine. subaru rubs at his arm, waiting outside of 1-D for the class to be dismissed (he'd managed to slip out early himself, he's giving amami a freebie in that area as per their unspoken agreement) so he can snag komaeda before the other can escape. they're going to hang out.

not literally snag, mind, unless he's ignored, but subaru's content with perking up whenever komaeda leaves as the cue of I Was Waiting For You]

( at the end of class, komaeda doesn't have much going for him aside from bothering those around him, and making sure he finds ranger before ranger finds him — that said, he also has to make sure he finds subaru before subaru finds him — this happens solely around those with an orange motif, has never stopped from what he's noticed. it's when he steps outside his class, and notice that brief color, he's already... learned how to tell them apart, and this one is too sparkly to go unnoticed. )

( komaeda cants his head to the side, eyes wide, blinking as if to answer "what is it?" so that the other can either tell him what's on his mind, or lead him somewhere. he doesn't seem against it, but that's because komaeda can be kind when he wants — )

( silent, soft, and not one word can be spoken, it's why komaeda likes that place, but now... it's worse given the fact his heart thumps in his chest, audible in his ears when he's with certain people. )

[oh, he escaped... subaru watches back, as if waiting for a chance to jump again.]

Actually... I just finished a book, so I wanted to talk shop with you. ☆

[yeah... he read a book... he's gonna start off to go downstairs, though he'll check behind him to see if komaeda follows.]

Most movies are like that, they don't stay true to the text, or vice versa.

( he explains, following after subaru as he walks down the stairs one after the other, and he his prosthetic holding onto the rail of the steps so that he doesn't trip. )

Different Seasons by Stephen King has pretty great movie adaptions; Rita Hayworth, and The Shawshank Redemption.

( he crosses his arms, wondering what subaru has shown interest in. ) Did the movie let you down?

Nope! The movie was way easier to follow, and definitely more interesting~. The shortcuts helped the pacing, the book felt like it dragged a lot 'cause of how many places they stopped at and people they talked to in comparison...

I don't get why they nerfed the professor though. He could speak a lot of languages in the original, but they made him so unlikable in the movie... I mean, he wasn't easy to like in the book either, but y'know? And the movie had Gertrude.
