THE CHRISTMAS MINGLE YOUR PARENTS WARNED YOU ABOUT

At some point in the night, taking advantage of the perma-silence, Lucifer and a few others sneak about to decorate the dormitory for the holidays. The morning of 12/25, you'll wake up to the smell of Christmas cookies wafting from the dorm kitchen, and upon actually leaving your room, there are string lights and decorations thrown up in the hallways and the common room proper.

The decorating is, of course, courtesy of Nene, who has been working hard to ensure that there's something more beautiful than those ghoulish paintings on the walls here. You can thank Helena, Sidney, and Lucifer for both the cookies and other, more substantial food which will periodically be presented throughout the day — Lucifer practically lives in the kitchen for the duration of the party and can sometimes be seen shooing the other two out to go have fun. That said, the table housing all of these dishes, ranging from traditional Christmas meals (as best they can do with limited resources, anyway) to more ostentatious treats will never be empty, so please eat to your heart's content!

Thanks to Amami, there's a large, undecorated Christmas tree in the middle of the common room that looks to be very well taken care of. Next to it is a table full of art supplies for making colourful paper ornaments, and a small card lying nearby that instructs those participating to write down a wish on the ornament proper before hanging it on the tree. It may not come true, but you know it'll be safe since no mysterious forces set this up — wish away!

Should you come to spend time at the party and fraternize, you'll find that you're being waited on by a number of small little imps except they're all wearing tiny Santa hats — they'll bring you food and drinks and candy should you request it, and they're on their Best Behaviour, so please be nice to them! They are simply underpaid service workers. They're absolutely thrilled to talk to you in chirps and weird demonic chittering, and they understand what you're saying at least.

In the back corner of the room, there's a minute-to-win-it type game set up: two chairs are tied by the backs together by two ribbons, about two feet apart from one another. Nearby, there's a table of candycanes for use in this game. The goal of the game is to toss a candycane while standing on one of the chairs and get said candycane to catch on the ribbons, or to see who can get the most candycanes on a ribbon in a minute. The instructions are explained on a little card sitting nearby, with further note to not eat all of the candycanes (there are more set out on the food table, you see) so people can play, and another smaller note banning the use of magic against an opponent who doesn't have it. Let's keep the game fair, people. And let's thank Hikaru for running out to get an obnoxious amount of candycanes for everyone.

Lucifer will intermittently come join the festivities from time to time when he's not cooking, wearing this, please feel free to bully the demon for celebrating the holiday from the religion he hates. He can take it, it's okay.

Last but certainly not least, Noah is roaming about the party using his magic to try and liven the place up. Little stars hang from the ceiling around him in a ten-foot radius, and should you frown at all, he will come up to you and put cat ears formed of magic shadows on you until you laugh. On occasion, he can be seen slipping out of the party with cookies and stacking them on a plate in front of Komaeda's door. The stars go with him, but the good news is that Natsume is also helping with their little lightshow, so the twinkling indoor galaxies will not be absent for long. It's a joint effort between Clamor's apprentices, and their hard work really shows through, magic training is difficult after all. Feel free to bother either of them to do magic tricks for you, if you'd like, or just lie down under a curtain of stars.

The night promises to be magical (semi-literally), even if we're all stuck in purgatory, so relax, put your feet up, and sing Christmas carols to your heart's content. And don't worry about the cleanup — just try not to pass out on the floors.

( amami brought this tree in here, and he dumped his plant food that is sketchily effective in growing it so tall that the top almost touches the ceiling, but not quite, and he is here to babysit it for at least part of the night. the fact that it also happens to be where all the art supplies is just happens to be a bonus. so he'll be sitting on the table, towards the back of it where there's less supplies spread out and closer to the tree, and periodically lifting a pair of glasses from the bridge of his nose to rest at the crown of his head, like they're sunglasses or something and he's not supposed to be using them to read.

whenever someone happens to pass too close, or if they look too interested in the ornament setup, amami will be sure to flash them a smile and a wave. those who're already working on theirs, they'll get a bit more interest as he glances up from his own art project to see them. )

So, what are you wishing for?

( he's not going to lean in to peek, but looking over, there's a spark of curiosity in his eyes. )

[pleaaaaaaaaase stop looking at her like that what else could she be wishing for. kaede hunches her shoulders almost protectively and looks up at amami just the same, then sighs and smiles sheepishly as she leans on her hand.]

The same thing I do every year.

( something about a piano...? listen, he'd wanted to give her some benefit of the doubt here. either way, he seems amused, pulling one leg up under him to make himself more comfortable. like he's getting ready for the long haul or something. c'mon kaede, break it down for him. )

Oh? That's a little surprising. But y'know, there's a lot of wishes that you'd be surprised can come true in a place like this.

( she could expand her horizons a little bit, like she was saying. )

I know, I just... can't think of any.

[not when she hasn't played enough for a lifetime. or the absolute impossible she guesses, which she'll write down in her neat handwriting.]

Not for myself, anyway. Is it alright to write down wishes for other people? I want Saihara-kun and the others to win.

[the impossible part is "i want to see it"]

( something seems to falter in his smile as she says so, but he's quick to correct it, leaning over to peek at the wish itself. )

That's not a bad one. Not sure if it's something Lucifer can make happen though.

( if only because of saihara's time here, but amami doesn't mention such a thing, smiling regardless. )

How about... Oh, right, you mentioned it earlier, didn't you? Why don't you make a wish about one of those new hobbies you were interested in.

[she's smacking her arms over her wish protectively, buddy. this is the only reason she doesn't see the slight falter, she'll... ask about it at some point, but not tonight.]

It's more of a wish I want them to feel than anything anyone here can grant. I left them with a pretty tall order, but I think-- I know they can do it.

[... won't stop her from writing it anyway, as a well-wish... the suggestion makes her hum thoughtfully, and she'll pass the first off to him so he can put it up. there's also a "hang in there! you can do it!" sentiment on the ornament.]

I think I'd rather use my resolution on that than a wish. Like, next year I'll try at least five new things! Or... something like that.

[hmm. oh. kaede'll look up at him, smiling curiously.]

( it's... sweet, really, the faith she has in them. it's something that amami wants to have in the same way, but not only that — the way she wants to send them that same hope. amami finds his expression softening despite himself, flashing her a grin. )

I shouldn't have expected any less from you, Akamatsu-san, but I'm sure they'll appreciate it.

( it's exactly this idealistic hope that made her such a leader among them after all. but he shakes his head at her question. )

A resolution? Not yet, but I guess it isn't a bad idea. ( and he definitely relaxes a little as the topic shifts away from the others' success — or lack thereof. ) I can't say I'd know where to start though. There are so many things I still want to do, I couldn't pick just one.

Like what? Maybe we can figure out some way to umbrella them all.

I don't think anyone's gonna say you're a cheater if you make a lot of them, though. It's admirable to want to try so much.

I guess. I can't say I'm too good at any of the things I've tried so far, but it's nice getting the chance to relax a little.

( it's not something he's had the opportunity to do in... well, a long time, to be honest. this place, he can't say it's good, but he can't call it entirely bad either when he thinks of some of the opportunities he's had here. )

But I couldn't take up too much of the tree — we've gotta save some room for everybody else after all. If it's just one wish, I think I have an idea of what it'd be.

It doesn't matter if you're good at what you try or not, just that you gave it a shot and had fun while doing it! That's how I'll go into it next year, too... Since there's no way I'll be good at everything I try.

[she's curious...! she'd hand one over anyway, but now it's her turn to get comfy and watch him.]

You know, I heard the same thing from Kamo-kun. It was about drawing specifically, but it had the same energy.

( and he seems pretty pleased about that. that's two of his favourite people encouraging him right there!

speaking of kamo-kun, the wish seems to be related — if she looks over, she'll be able to make out their familiar title among the near-illegible cursive he scribbles down:

Mm? Oh-- Sure! That sounds like a lot of fun, Amami-kun, I'd be happy to have you along. Everything's better when it's shared with a friend, right? [and that's what they are.] Let's make a list!

Cooking, sewing, painting... Tree climbing... Making something with my hands, playing a sport of some kind, karaoke, learning to do nail art, collecting something, working a part-time job...

[she's never climbed a tree before that sounds like fun. but these are all so... normie... what's a fun one that amami might enjoy and hasn't done before. like, he's probably done all of these things by now! and one she knows he has.]

Skydiving.

( he's grinning big, like he's trying not to laugh. )

Guess it does sound pretty fun. I'm definitely up for a couple of those too — Kamo-kun taught me a little bit about painting, so maybe we can stop by the art room later.

( he can draw more neon animals with her. )

Oh, but I definitely recommend against climbing the wisteria in the courtyard.

( get that outta the way right now. he looks serious about it too. )

I know sports aren't great here, but do you think tennis would be alright to try...? To be honest, a lot of our classmate's interest are something I wanna give a shot.

Aw, not interested in bugs? Haha, I guess that is more of a guy's thing.

( it's fair for a cute girl to be offput by them, but the mention of gonta does make him kind of curious as to what kind of bugs there might be here. aside from, y'know, those summer gnats and such that were so annoying before. anyway! tennis... sports... well, soccer would be nice, since he'd be able to look out for her, but he can't fault her for wanting to learn more about their classmates either. his worry might be showing a little bit too, 'cause the first thing that comes to mind is: )

Maybe we can get you some elbow pads and the like from Kamo-kun.

But really, Miyuki had hesitated to go ahead with a wish. Making a wish wasn't really a good use of his time, especially when anything he wanted was completely outlandish. A simple slip of paper wouldn't get him home. And yet, here he was. ]

I'm mostly wishing that I'm asleep in my bed at home, dreaming this entire thing.

[ How very friendly. He shakes his head, staring up at the tree. ]

Actually, it's less of a wish and more like... wanting to send a message to my friends and family. I want them to know that they shouldn't worry about me.

( he's not sure if clamor has, like, magic auto-writing pens when he's a sickle or anything... but he's more than willing to help, offering a smile no matter how strange it still is to have a floating sickle blinking at you. )
