( there's various hidden signs that point towards the elevator, and if anyone catches sight, they'll see an arrow that points up, indicating for them to take it skyward. if they get off too early, there's a sign on the floor that reads, "next stop!", so if they dare, they can go back into the elevator and do as the words command. upon making your way to the rooftop on new year's eve, the setup is immediately apparent.
a number of glittering, sparkling decorations line the area — streamers, balloons, music, and a brightly colored sign the reads: happy birthday hinachan. at the heart of the setup is a bonfire that reaches almost shoulder-height — properly set up to make sure it doesn't spread anywhere further than its containment area, it sets a festive tone.
"borrowed" desks are also covered in an array of treats and appetizers courtesy of nene and amami, as well as enough love setsugetsukka to "make 3 people black out," which is probably enough to share if nobody gets too ambitious. the cake at the center of it all is the real star of the show however, almost as big as a person all on it's own.
to top it all off, even under the dim glow of the stars, nobody is short of a little light when natsume and noah's dazzling light show begins. once the main event has closed, a variety of firecrackers are brought out to celebrate with as things begin to wind down. varieties include the classic sparklers, these little spinny bitches, funky little sparkshowers, some little baby rockets, with the larger varieties spanning a couple feet at most. on the opposite side, there's a little table where a birdhouse is kept, and inside stuffed with all sorts of cotton and wood shavings are two birds huddled together inside, and a few treats that people can feed them if interest. if keigo looks at your character from afar, it's fine, that birdhouse they're living in was made by them, after all.
and at the centre of it all will be one boy with a bag over his head, kidnapped by rokuro arata, who sits him down and lets komaeda undo his blindfold — happy birthday, hinata-kun! )

Yup, that's reason enough! I'm that way a lot of the time too, after all~. I do things because I wanna do them.
[and that's how he's always lived, and how he wants to always live. how everyone should live.]
Speaking of things you wanna do, Keigo... [which is always a great sentence starter.] Got any resolutions?
[for the new year. things to do, ways to change, whatever. make them think a bit, subaru likes doing that]
no subject
I'm going to solve the last four Millennium Prize Problems.
no subject
[cute... wish subaru could help more. but the others are definitely beyond him, so he'll just cheer them on from the side...!!!]
Well, if anyone can crack 'em wide open, it'll be you~. You're smart, and you've got plenty of people that'll help you in a tight spot. Any others?
[... like he's expecting something...]

I'm going to sell out on my entire stock of rocks! I want every student in the school to have at least one!
no subject
Easy peasy, leave it to me! Now! Gimme another!
[he honestly doesn't know what he's waiting for he just wants to see what else they got in that brain of theirs]
no subject
Aaaaaaaaaannd... I'm going to learn how to swim! And how to bind a book! And how to bake a cake!
no subject
[the other two he can
get he thinks. swimming is fun and they probably want to be able to make cakes for birthdays]

[ It's not a story, but a conversation, bits and pieces of life through the months and they figure that's just as well as a memento when they're gone. ]
no subject
is so cute, and thinking of her earlier this month this will mean so much to her.]
That's so cool! Lena's been sort of... [he'd wiggle a hand but he likes holding them too much so it's just a wiggle of his head] Lately, especially when we talk about graduation and stuff. I think she'll super duper love it, Keigo~.
[those were the cute resolutions he was hoping for though... nothing to do with money, but with other people]
I haven't really decided on anything for myself yet. ♪ It's kinda tough, y'know?
no subject
... ]
Then, what do you want to do just sometime in your life? Doesn't have to be within the year.
no subject
... a lot of stuff, but it's hard to pin down in choice. subaru sways with them idly, humming as he thinks. there's so, so much... maybe a list is okay.]
Go on a road trip with all my friends, from one side of Japan to the other. I think it'd be pretty fun! See a supernova explode. Perform across the globe. Get married at some point. Climb to the top of Mount Fuji, try spearfishing... Visit Las Vegas. All that and more!
no subject
When's the next supernova exploding? Is it soon?
[ Does it happen sometime in the early 2000s ]
no subject
There's one in 2003, but there's an even brighter one in 2006 and the year after... They explode more often than you'd think -- well, their light finally reaches us more often than you'd think. That just means they're relatively the same age, or at least the same size and growth.
[apparently there was one in march last year]

subaru laughs a little, cuddling them closer.]
That's just life~! They're all suuuuper far away, so we get to enjoy all the lights and none of the damage! And yeah, we do -- there's star nurseries out in space that act as little big bangs, where star matter gathers and eventually becomes new lights. The Carina Nebulae's an example of one, but there's plenty of galaxies out there that're still popping new ones out~. Our world will never be dark. Cool, right?
no subject
Oh...
[ They relax in his arms, visibly relieved to hear about baby stars, the affirmation that the world will never go dark. ]
I want to see that someday. A new star.
no subject
maybe subaru has a use for natsume's vr system after all.]
Not tonight, but tomorrow, I'll show you one. 'Kay?
no subject
no subject
[they will definitely be just as amazed as he was...!!!!]
no subject
Okay! Are they the sparklers, or?
[ Actually they only really like the little handheld stick sparklers, the others are too noisy and have too great of a chance at going awry and catching people/birds on fire ]
no subject
Nope! It's the spinny ones! Let's shoot 'em off the roof, you'll get to see it best like that!
[like shooting stars... yeah. dragging them along...!]
no subject
Subaru: picks up a spinny bitch
YEAH WHERE'S THE TRUST ]
Okay... but can you direct them like that? You're sure they won't come flying towards us? You'd have to give it a nudge towards the edge of the roof before lighting it and hope the irregular ignition doesn't change the trajectory too much.
no subject
[he'll get burn scars to match amami it'll be fine,
since he's done this with komaeda a little bit ago it's easy to do, pulling out one of those longer lighters they use for grills from his jacket (its his now) and leaning down to light it, nudging it quickly off the roof and watching it go.
it spins bright sparkling yellow and through the air, skirting blue when it closes on the snow.]

he is only one person, but there are so many people here who can help.]
I gotcha, I gotcha...
[just to keep them calm, to keep him calm, never afraid of heights until now-- he whistles something familiar to two people at this party, a signal that sounds like a bird shared between three thieves in a far of city, and then tries again a little louder. hard when he's halfway off the building himself, but it's fine, it'll be fine--]
