( there's various hidden signs that point towards the elevator, and if anyone catches sight, they'll see an arrow that points up, indicating for them to take it skyward. if they get off too early, there's a sign on the floor that reads, "next stop!", so if they dare, they can go back into the elevator and do as the words command. upon making your way to the rooftop on new year's eve, the setup is immediately apparent.
a number of glittering, sparkling decorations line the area — streamers, balloons, music, and a brightly colored sign the reads: happy birthday hinachan. at the heart of the setup is a bonfire that reaches almost shoulder-height — properly set up to make sure it doesn't spread anywhere further than its containment area, it sets a festive tone.
"borrowed" desks are also covered in an array of treats and appetizers courtesy of nene and amami, as well as enough love setsugetsukka to "make 3 people black out," which is probably enough to share if nobody gets too ambitious. the cake at the center of it all is the real star of the show however, almost as big as a person all on it's own.
to top it all off, even under the dim glow of the stars, nobody is short of a little light when natsume and noah's dazzling light show begins. once the main event has closed, a variety of firecrackers are brought out to celebrate with as things begin to wind down. varieties include the classic sparklers, these little spinny bitches, funky little sparkshowers, some little baby rockets, with the larger varieties spanning a couple feet at most. on the opposite side, there's a little table where a birdhouse is kept, and inside stuffed with all sorts of cotton and wood shavings are two birds huddled together inside, and a few treats that people can feed them if interest. if keigo looks at your character from afar, it's fine, that birdhouse they're living in was made by them, after all.
and at the centre of it all will be one boy with a bag over his head, kidnapped by rokuro arata, who sits him down and lets komaeda undo his blindfold — happy birthday, hinata-kun! )

[she nods, and a smiles breaks out across her face.]
I can get a copy of Tennyson's poems from the library for you to read one day - there's a few you might really like in there.

Yeah, thank you! What sort of stuff does Tennyson write about? Which one's your favorite?

[they were a lifeline, a way of seeing the world even if she couldn't put names to the colors he described, to envision it beyond what she draws up.]
Though if I had to pick a favorite...probably it's The Lady of Shalott. If I try, I might be able to remember some...
[give her a second, with the general chaos of this group.]

A shallot is like a long onion, right?
[ Onions make you cry... emotion... Dude needs better naming sense. ]

[she emphasizes the "shah".]
It's an island, and it's spelled differently. It's where she lives, weaving up in her tower.

Is she happy there? What's she weaving?

[just going to skirt the question of happiness...they'll understand when they read it.]

[ artists are! very weird people! ]

[it'll have more of an impact if they discover the why, and then tell her if they think the lady made the right choice or not.]

[ ... ]
Let me hear the original first, though.
[ Because she's right, yeah, they can only appreciate derivatives if they know the original ]

[aka smuggled it out for an evening.]
Then you can tell me if you'd prefer her tale rewritten, or if you think the original might be best.

[ Extract themselves from the crowd that is somehow so much more overwhelming when they're all minding their own business, than it is when all eyes are on them in the middle of a sales pitch. They like the library, though, and if Helena has a copy in her room then they're that much more tempted to just stay in the dorms and not come back. ]

[ignore the space time continuum that is where is everyone when we get voided, Yogen is magic and I have faith it all works out. anyways, they both can disappear from the party because everyone's kinda all wrapped up in their own mess. someone stop the kids from blowing themselves up before we get to do that later. the point is, it's winter, but they can make it to the library if they walk together to stay warm. '
she would keep the Braille copies in her room, but she likes having fingernails, so they have to go back at end of day too. maybe she should just start copying texts she likes.]

With everybody upstairs, though, it's quiet, a little unnervingly so, in npckun's opinion. But as much as they'd like to stay huddled up against Helena, there's stairs and so he lets her head down first while they follow two steps behind her, down down down to the first floor where their feet automatically take them to the student store before the catch themselves and turn to face the library door instead. ]
