( there's various hidden signs that point towards the elevator, and if anyone catches sight, they'll see an arrow that points up, indicating for them to take it skyward. if they get off too early, there's a sign on the floor that reads, "next stop!", so if they dare, they can go back into the elevator and do as the words command. upon making your way to the rooftop on new year's eve, the setup is immediately apparent.
a number of glittering, sparkling decorations line the area — streamers, balloons, music, and a brightly colored sign the reads: happy birthday hinachan. at the heart of the setup is a bonfire that reaches almost shoulder-height — properly set up to make sure it doesn't spread anywhere further than its containment area, it sets a festive tone.
"borrowed" desks are also covered in an array of treats and appetizers courtesy of nene and amami, as well as enough love setsugetsukka to "make 3 people black out," which is probably enough to share if nobody gets too ambitious. the cake at the center of it all is the real star of the show however, almost as big as a person all on it's own.
to top it all off, even under the dim glow of the stars, nobody is short of a little light when natsume and noah's dazzling light show begins. once the main event has closed, a variety of firecrackers are brought out to celebrate with as things begin to wind down. varieties include the classic sparklers, these little spinny bitches, funky little sparkshowers, some little baby rockets, with the larger varieties spanning a couple feet at most. on the opposite side, there's a little table where a birdhouse is kept, and inside stuffed with all sorts of cotton and wood shavings are two birds huddled together inside, and a few treats that people can feed them if interest. if keigo looks at your character from afar, it's fine, that birdhouse they're living in was made by them, after all.
and at the centre of it all will be one boy with a bag over his head, kidnapped by rokuro arata, who sits him down and lets komaeda undo his blindfold — happy birthday, hinata-kun! )

Hmm, I don't think this is disappointing at all. It looks nice, so I can see why people like to light it up. As you say, it does seem rather simple to use.
[ He smiles slightly at the sight. ]
I think I may feel a little more cheerful now. I suppose that's the power of simple things like this, isn't it?

[He repeats. Part of him wonders if Meng Yao is trying to cheer him up, which makes old, now exposed, suspicions flare, because why would he be doing that?
It's not really working, under the surface. Cheerfulness... he can't make that emotion right now. The best he got was slightly manic smug satisfaction butting heads with Sara earlier.]
Strange, that just this can do that. Simple things, huh... Guess they wouldn't be here if they didn't.
[He swings the firework a little, in small nondescript arcs as it slowly burns down.]
You can do magic, right? I'm surprised you're happy with this tiny thing.
[Clamor and Noah have introduced some bias into the amount of flashy special effects magic usually carries in his mind.]

Some old habits don't leave him. ]
...I suppose it may sound silly in retrospect, but I've found that there is beauty in even simple things.
Though while we're talking about such sights, is there one you have seen while you have been here that has captivated you or caught your attention?
no subject
What is this, a sleepover...?
[It's muttered just a little... he can't exactly duck into his absence of scarf but the general motion is there.]
Caught my attention... Hinata being kidnapped here was pretty notable.
[It's not exactly what Meng Yao's asking, but it's not wrong either. The people here have his attention as well, but more out of being on high alert than anything else.]
Ahaha, almost thought there'd been another murder for a second! Good thing that didn't happen... but what about you? Anything caught your eye apart from sparklers?
no subject
Well, I suppose that would be rather notable.
[ He's glad that whomever was in on that made that part still work out... ]
The birds, I think. I wasn't expecting to see them at a party. But, I do think they were a nice and rather thoughtful addition. They add what I think is a unique atmosphere to it?
no subject
Right... Didn't even know we had those.
[He's seen sparrows around, and the cats, and that seems to be about it for animal life here, so it very much is a bit of a surprise.]
They really are a strange choice. [Not a bad one, just odd... Meng Yao's right.] Wonder if they're from someone's world...
[He doesn't know that's metaphysically impossible... and hasn't heard of them before.]
no subject
What makes you consider that? Is it because they're a new sight?
[ Meng Yao supposes it's something to think about, though when he saw them he just thought they were nice. ]
