( there's various hidden signs that point towards the elevator, and if anyone catches sight, they'll see an arrow that points up, indicating for them to take it skyward. if they get off too early, there's a sign on the floor that reads, "next stop!", so if they dare, they can go back into the elevator and do as the words command. upon making your way to the rooftop on new year's eve, the setup is immediately apparent.
a number of glittering, sparkling decorations line the area — streamers, balloons, music, and a brightly colored sign the reads: happy birthday hinachan. at the heart of the setup is a bonfire that reaches almost shoulder-height — properly set up to make sure it doesn't spread anywhere further than its containment area, it sets a festive tone.
"borrowed" desks are also covered in an array of treats and appetizers courtesy of nene and amami, as well as enough love setsugetsukka to "make 3 people black out," which is probably enough to share if nobody gets too ambitious. the cake at the center of it all is the real star of the show however, almost as big as a person all on it's own.
to top it all off, even under the dim glow of the stars, nobody is short of a little light when natsume and noah's dazzling light show begins. once the main event has closed, a variety of firecrackers are brought out to celebrate with as things begin to wind down. varieties include the classic sparklers, these little spinny bitches, funky little sparkshowers, some little baby rockets, with the larger varieties spanning a couple feet at most. on the opposite side, there's a little table where a birdhouse is kept, and inside stuffed with all sorts of cotton and wood shavings are two birds huddled together inside, and a few treats that people can feed them if interest. if keigo looks at your character from afar, it's fine, that birdhouse they're living in was made by them, after all.
and at the centre of it all will be one boy with a bag over his head, kidnapped by rokuro arata, who sits him down and lets komaeda undo his blindfold — happy birthday, hinata-kun! )

I remember hearing about regular wine, probably from school or something, but... Hell if I know how any of that works, either.
[Little Noah is right for that I hope he lived his best childhood.]
It's been great so far, honestly the... best I've ever...
[Hinata's voice trails off in wonder, eyes wide as he takes in what's above him because that's. Did Noah just make a constellation above them...?!]
Oh... This is... [It takes a second to force his gaze away, but he barely manages.] It's so beautiful. Thank you... again. Really.

Noah sure did make a constellation above them! Just for Hinata. A huge, starry portrait as a birthday gift that's as fleeting as it is pretty; it disappears after the golden track finishes its path.]
It's— it's not a problem. I... I hope it makes you happy. And doesn't embarrass you.
[Noah sorta just remembered that Star Coaster can be embarrassing. Sorry.]
Is it really the best birthday you've ever had?
no subject
It's... maybe a little bit embarrassing. [Hinata laughs and rubs the back of his neck, half-realizing it as he says it, feeling the heat of a blush on his face.] But not in a bad way, really. It did make me happy, I'm honestly really flattered.
[Who just??? Gives people constellations as a present??? The thought that he wouldn't be happy is wild to Hinata.]
It... definitely is the best, though. [Hinata's voice gets quieter. Noah might notice that his smile gets a little sadder as well.] People are usually pretty caught up with New Year's celebrations and everything, so... Not a lot of time for fitting a party in there.
[It's better, really, than saying he's used to feeling like an afterthought, but he doesn't know if his tone quite makes it.]
no subject
Huh... [It's fine, because Noah's also used to feeling downtrodden or like he doesn't matter to anyone, so he picks up on the tone, though he's not going to call Hinata out on the insecurities.] Well... um... you made it another year, so I'm glad we're celebrating you and not the year itself. In the grand scheme of things, years don't really matter that much compared to people's lives, you know?
[What's the point in celebrating the new year? It's not like a new year is going to bring in massive, massive changes. A new year isn't going to save all of them from purgatory.]
Years will go by without us one day. [He would know because he's like, 517.] There's not really a point in celebrating the passage of time unless it relates to someone important, like you. I'm glad you're having fun. It's better than being alone and feeling down on yourself, especially on your birthday.
[His tone betrays the fact he speaks from experience — just how often had Noah's parents forgotten he existed on such an important day? Before he was sealed into stasis for 500 years, obviously.]
no subject
It's a nice change, honestly. [He laughs, a little nervously, because - okay that was definitely a little too on the nose.] It's true, though... I'm grateful I'm here and for everybody here with us.
[Even if he still thinks, almost daily, about the ones who didn't make it. Even if he wishes they were still here, too.
But it's the words that follow that make Hinata's heart stutter in his chest.]
Noah...
[The way he says it...
It's like someone that's been through it. Someone who understands, and has maybe even been through worse.
We... can't be that far apart in age, right? Well. So why does he sound like he's been through too much already?]
...Hey.
[His hand hesitates at his side for a moment, flinches with uncertainty, but the he's lifting it to place upon Noah's shoulder, smile just a little bit stronger.]
If we should only celebrate the important things, then the next time your birthday comes around... let's do something fun like we all did today, okay?
[There's a little bit of trepidation in him - have they already? Did they already do it and Hinata forgot when he lost all of his memories?
But he doesn't let it dampen his grin in the slightest... because he can't keep living in that Hinata's shoes forever.]
no subject
Huh...? Oh, I'm... hoping that by next December, that we're all out of here and safe. [He offers a smile, thin, but visible.] I turned seventeen [517] on December 17th... that's a lot of seventeens, actually. I don't mind not having a big party like this, since crowds can be kind of overwhelming.
["So don't worry about me" is what he wants to say, but that wouldn't be quite accurate; he also wouldn't mind a lot of people wanting to celebrate his birthday, because it would be more than he's ever had before. Dying and coming here has made him more friends than he ever had growing up.]
I kept quiet about it because I don't know how to cope with having too much attention on me. [Because no one ever gave him attention when he was growing up, probably.] But this isn't about me. Besides, if we had a party for me this month, that would be too many parties in a row...
[Rin and Yukio quietly celebrated their birthdays a couple days after Noah's, and then Lucifer threw a Christmas party, and now it's Hinata's birthday... people would've been partied out. Or maybe that's just Noah who's introverted enough to think that four parties in a row would be insane.]
