JANUARY EVENT LOG
00:00 01/01
✽ At the stoke of midnight, something shatters on the ground floor in front of the bulletin board, and the entire school goes dark: all electricity gets shut off, all flames are snuffed out, and the sky is heavily overcast to hide the moon and the stars. The only source of light are the suncatchers purchased from the student store, but even those fully charged will start to dim and go out over the next three days.
✽ Nene, Hinata, Noah, Amami, and Komaeda will smell something burning, and if they pull out their PDAs, it is hot to the touch and the casing is cracked, like something had blown from the inside, and their PDAs will not be working. For everybody else, the screen flickers when they press their thumb to their PDAs, and then goes dark again. ...
✽ If anybody was inside the main school building at midnight, I am so sorry, and for everybody else who enters the building afterwards, please watch your step. The appearance and atmosphere of the school has changed to that of the "void school" and can not be reverted upon breaking a mirror. Please refer to the aforementioned link for details about the school.
✽ As of midnight, no npcs can be found inside the school, including the library ghost, the gardener, and the cats. If a character were near an npc at midnight, it would appear as if they'd disappeared into the shadows the moment the world went dark.

??? whenever you guys solve the void
✽ 01/10 marks the beginning of the final semester, and when npc students and faculty will return to school. Of the ~260 npc students enrolled at the start of December, only ~40 npc students return to school, with the other three quarters having their names crossed off the class roster in the locker area. In light of the rapidly shrinking student body, homerooms will be consolidated by year, creating a single class for each of the first, second, and third years.
✽ The countdown in front of the bulletin board has reached zero, and the glass tube appears to have shattered and bled out onto the floor, to nobody's surprise. The mess will be cleaned up by the end of the week, and in its place is a notice for the school trip taking place next month. Please see the toplevel below for more details.
✽ The science lab is now open. Add will probably elbow people out of the way getting here, but he gets dibs on the anatomical model: it is warm to the touch, and rather than being made of plastic, the skin, muscle, bones, other organs feel very much real. He thinks they might be. The rest of the room is set up like a typical research lab, with all the basic chemicals and equipment: a refrigerator, liquid nitrogen storage tank, sonicator, incubator, autoclave, laminar flow cabinet, mass spectrometer, and a high performance liquid chromatography system.
✽ It snows on and off and the sky remains overcast with no sign of the sun all month.

✽ Please give the temporary locations page a thorough read! The most noticeable changes aside from the usual void school appearance is the scattered void, lack of electricity in both the school and the dorm, and the ability to walk off campus. The setting will remain as is until the characters figure out how to revert the change, or on 01/10, whichever comes first.
✽ PDAs will be inoperable until fixed. Tech-savvy characters may realize that the PDAs are powered through inductive charging, and the first step to getting them (also electrical appliances and hot water) to work again is to locate the generator.
✽ All npcs will be ICly unavailable until we unvoid the school.

B
It's kind of what happens when you do spend a lot of time with someone you've been investigating with, it's only natural, right?
Or so she tries to tell herself, anyway.
Still early in the month - but a few days after primary investigations - she'll just go ahead and knock to check in; the tap is light, but there seems to be a distinct pattern to it. If he knows morse, he might be able to recognize it as that (and the message seems to be just a simple hello). She won't force someone to come out if they don't really want to, and well- hey, maybe she's come at the wrong time and he's not here for whatever reason.]

Remaining battery is therefore once more precious. Which means that without the use of his laptop, and only turning his phone on and off sparingly to check for messages, and really with his low energy in general, there isn't a lot to do but try and sleep. Most of the time he manages a halfway state, occasionally dipping deeper only to jolt out of it, panting. It's in this state that he hears tapping, and it takes a few muzzy seconds to realize it's not just sound, but someone knocking, and not just someone knocking but someone knocking in... morse code?
He's rusty, but he did learn it... at some point, probably. Thinking about it doesn't bear thinking about, so he won't. He tuned in at the start of the second message, but e-l-l-o is fairly easy to reconstruct the entire word from.
There's the brief sounds of shuffling movement from behind the door, silence, and then a tapped-back y-e-s-? He's got a suspicion on who this might be, but it's really more of a hunch based off of the network cipher. Nevertheless, why is she or they here?]
no subject
[That's said aloud instead of in morse.
Although she certainly has no way of knowing if she can be heard, as someone who doesn't really frequent the dorms all that often, or even stays at the dorms at all, in spite of how supposedly dangerous the main building is at the moment.
It's a choice that she's certainly made, for sure.]
Let's see...
[Her voice is soft as she says those words and raises a hand, ready to rap her knuckles on the door again, but then pauses, mulling it all in her head. What does she want to even say here?
...
She supposes something simple, to start.
She knocks out, slowly: 'how are you feeling?']
no subject
I'm going to say it's possible to have conversations through the door just for maximum drama purposes; there's a faint huff on the other side in response to her response at his response, and a rustle as he quickly grabs his notebook and a red pencil, because his memory's good but not infallible and he doesn't want to miss taps.
There's a long moment after mentally deciphering the most recent message where he stares at the wood of the door. After Nene's reaction to it, the pendulum on people knowing about what happened has swung back a bit, but also it's just. Why is she asking. Why does she want to know. Eventually there's the tapped response in return speed.
'Fine why?'
Starting out with a lie.]
no subject
But she quickly listens to the tapping response. Well, she can't be sure if that's the truth or a lie; nuance is lost through things like this. Just like in text messages, too.
Inaba sighs before turning her back on the door.]
Honestly, what am I doing...
[That's spoken mostly to herself than anyone else, really.
She knocks out the word 'concern', if only because it's much easier to send out simple, shorter words like this.]
no subject
...
[There's a long silence from the other side of the door, before another slow tapping out of w-h-y-? Concern... They've worked together, but they don't really know each other much... is Shin just coming off that pitiful? What is she doing.
Then there's the sound of rustling on the other side and a piece of paper slides out under the door with neat ballpoint handwriting.]
This is faster.
no subject
Oh.
Okay, yeah, that's definitely a lot faster.
Well, it's not as if she's writing anything ridiculously secret. So in neat handwriting, she responds:]
It'd be bad if I'm the only one who can QC Ranger's state, you know.
no subject
True... Gotta make sure he doesn't run into more issues.
[That does settle his feathers a little more than concern. It's something concrete, and also a fair point; two heads are better than one on that, even if a sullen part of Shin mutters that she'd be the better option. He tells it to shut up. But it is the whole basis of the alliance with Ranger he's falling back on, so...]
I'm not going to drop dead anytime soon, if that's what you're thinking.
[It's tempting fate, but it's also why he's keeping safe isn't it? It's not just that he's feeling awful in general. There's a reassurance in there somewhere.]
comes back to this after 84 years lmao
[INABA...............
Why are you like this. Who allowed you to sass through a note here. She sighs to herself and then finishes her message with:]
Wasn't expecting you to.
In fact, don't ever drop dead at all, if you can help it. Unless it's of old age or sickness or something. That's the only exception.
handshake meme
I'll do my best... You should do the same, Miss Inaba.
[Genuinely meant, if awkwardly worded.]
Well, maybe we can just stick to old age.
[The irony is that they don't age here and he's going to get smacked with a two by four of flu not too long after this.]
