JANUARY EVENT LOG

00:00 01/01

✽ At the stoke of midnight, something shatters on the ground floor in front of the bulletin board, and the entire school goes dark: all electricity gets shut off, all flames are snuffed out, and the sky is heavily overcast to hide the moon and the stars. The only source of light are the suncatchers purchased from the student store, but even those fully charged will start to dim and go out over the next three days.
Nene, Hinata, Noah, Amami, and Komaeda will smell something burning, and if they pull out their PDAs, it is hot to the touch and the casing is cracked, like something had blown from the inside, and their PDAs will not be working. For everybody else, the screen flickers when they press their thumb to their PDAs, and then goes dark again. ...
✽ If anybody was inside the main school building at midnight, I am so sorry, and for everybody else who enters the building afterwards, please watch your step. The appearance and atmosphere of the school has changed to that of the "void school" and can not be reverted upon breaking a mirror. Please refer to the aforementioned link for details about the school.
✽ As of midnight, no npcs can be found inside the school, including the library ghost, the gardener, and the cats. If a character were near an npc at midnight, it would appear as if they'd disappeared into the shadows the moment the world went dark.

??? whenever you guys solve the void

✽ 01/10 marks the beginning of the final semester, and when npc students and faculty will return to school. Of the ~260 npc students enrolled at the start of December, only ~40 npc students return to school, with the other three quarters having their names crossed off the class roster in the locker area. In light of the rapidly shrinking student body, homerooms will be consolidated by year, creating a single class for each of the first, second, and third years.
✽ The countdown in front of the bulletin board has reached zero, and the glass tube appears to have shattered and bled out onto the floor, to nobody's surprise. The mess will be cleaned up by the end of the week, and in its place is a notice for the school trip taking place next month. Please see the toplevel below for more details.
✽ The science lab is now open. Add will probably elbow people out of the way getting here, but he gets dibs on the anatomical model: it is warm to the touch, and rather than being made of plastic, the skin, muscle, bones, other organs feel very much real. He thinks they might be. The rest of the room is set up like a typical research lab, with all the basic chemicals and equipment: a refrigerator, liquid nitrogen storage tank, sonicator, incubator, autoclave, laminar flow cabinet, mass spectrometer, and a high performance liquid chromatography system.
✽ It snows on and off and the sky remains overcast with no sign of the sun all month.

OOC

✽ Please give the temporary locations page a thorough read! The most noticeable changes aside from the usual void school appearance is the scattered void, lack of electricity in both the school and the dorm, and the ability to walk off campus. The setting will remain as is until the characters figure out how to revert the change, or on 01/10, whichever comes first.
✽ PDAs will be inoperable until fixed. Tech-savvy characters may realize that the PDAs are powered through inductive charging, and the first step to getting them (also electrical appliances and hot water) to work again is to locate the generator.
✽ All npcs will be ICly unavailable until we unvoid the school.

[He nods slowly, looking a bit shaken. His gaze darts between all of them, but it mostly focuses on the image of Kirigiri.]

...Y-yes. Indeed. The splitting image. I did not think the decor would find a way t-to become even worse... but here we are.

[He forces himself to turn away and look back at Amami.]

It- it is probably better not to look at them.

( amami offers a sympathetic look to ishimaru, but he has to admit... it is hard to pull his eyes away. with a grimace though, he does manage. )

Guess it's subjective, but I dunno...

( he doesn't like the idea that they look so... lifelike, almost. uncannily resembling their subjects.

at the same time, they also don't quite look like they're suffering either, the way the ones outside of this place do. )

Do you think it means anything? That they changed, I mean.

Mmm... art is said to be subjective.

[He mutters that information while he thinks. It's true that these images could be a lot worse! But as it is, he can't look at these without being reminded of their fates or absences. That aside, Amami's question is the other thought playing on his mind.]

I... am not sure. Well, it likely means something, but I can barely even guess. Why did it become these specific people... Did they have anything in common?

( the slightly strained smile amami gives to that comment says he doesn't really see these paintings as art in that kind of way, but he's assuming that's not how it was meant anyway, and lets it otherwise slide. )

Hard to say. Off the top of my head, Ouma-kun and Kochou-san couldn't have seemed more different to me.

( responsible and determined compared to... well. whatever words you would like to use to describe ouma, really. aside from those he almost wants to say purple, that could slide, but what about hajun then? )

[He was trying to connect what he was saying to what he knows about art, but he's not too good at this. He awkwardly blinks back at him and then frowns as he hears him out.]

Yes, I can agree to that for sure. Both of them... were there for me in the wake of the student council election, and yet I cannot think of anything they have in common! Let alone the others! ...Although to be honest, I did not know the others very well beyond Kirigiri-kun.

Oh yeah? I don't think we got the chance to meet...

( maybe they just missed each other? amami knows that something similar happened with that shirogane-kun from earlier. either way, he gives a long and thoughtful look to the paintings. it's kind of hard for him to make a judgment call on them, when he doesn't know the whole context, but even so... )

Can't blame you for not liking them, but personally... I'd take them over the decor back at our dorms any day. It's not so bad having a reminder of them, even if they're not here, I'm just... worried about if there's more to it than that.

( like, if their souls were trapped in the paintings or something now that would be fucked up. by comparison, eerie portraits of deceased classmates is depressing but ultimately passable. )

Mmm, I see. She did not walk these halls for very long b-before she was tragically lost, but she was a fellow Ultimate from my class... an Ultimate Detective.

[He can't say 'the' because Saihara sure existed too. Which confused him since he only thought certain titles got duplicated, such as Luck or Student Council President. But that's just part of the strange inconsistencies between their classes that seem secondary to the mysteries of this school in the long run.

Ishimaru nods along with a frown as he listens to Amami's opinions about the portraits.]

...I see. I respect your views on these portraits, and I wish that it was easier for me to see them in that way. For me, looking at them reminds me of their absence... a-and in one case, a death that occurred in my vicinity. ...They are certainly pleasant compared to the normal decor of this room, that is for sure. The question is, what more could there be to this...?

[He gets himself to look at the portraits again.]

They are all making similar expressions. They seem to be hushing... Could they have learned some type of secret?
