JANUARY EVENT LOG

00:00 01/01

✽ At the stoke of midnight, something shatters on the ground floor in front of the bulletin board, and the entire school goes dark: all electricity gets shut off, all flames are snuffed out, and the sky is heavily overcast to hide the moon and the stars. The only source of light are the suncatchers purchased from the student store, but even those fully charged will start to dim and go out over the next three days.
Nene, Hinata, Noah, Amami, and Komaeda will smell something burning, and if they pull out their PDAs, it is hot to the touch and the casing is cracked, like something had blown from the inside, and their PDAs will not be working. For everybody else, the screen flickers when they press their thumb to their PDAs, and then goes dark again. ...
✽ If anybody was inside the main school building at midnight, I am so sorry, and for everybody else who enters the building afterwards, please watch your step. The appearance and atmosphere of the school has changed to that of the "void school" and can not be reverted upon breaking a mirror. Please refer to the aforementioned link for details about the school.
✽ As of midnight, no npcs can be found inside the school, including the library ghost, the gardener, and the cats. If a character were near an npc at midnight, it would appear as if they'd disappeared into the shadows the moment the world went dark.

??? whenever you guys solve the void

✽ 01/10 marks the beginning of the final semester, and when npc students and faculty will return to school. Of the ~260 npc students enrolled at the start of December, only ~40 npc students return to school, with the other three quarters having their names crossed off the class roster in the locker area. In light of the rapidly shrinking student body, homerooms will be consolidated by year, creating a single class for each of the first, second, and third years.
✽ The countdown in front of the bulletin board has reached zero, and the glass tube appears to have shattered and bled out onto the floor, to nobody's surprise. The mess will be cleaned up by the end of the week, and in its place is a notice for the school trip taking place next month. Please see the toplevel below for more details.
✽ The science lab is now open. Add will probably elbow people out of the way getting here, but he gets dibs on the anatomical model: it is warm to the touch, and rather than being made of plastic, the skin, muscle, bones, other organs feel very much real. He thinks they might be. The rest of the room is set up like a typical research lab, with all the basic chemicals and equipment: a refrigerator, liquid nitrogen storage tank, sonicator, incubator, autoclave, laminar flow cabinet, mass spectrometer, and a high performance liquid chromatography system.
✽ It snows on and off and the sky remains overcast with no sign of the sun all month.

OOC

✽ Please give the temporary locations page a thorough read! The most noticeable changes aside from the usual void school appearance is the scattered void, lack of electricity in both the school and the dorm, and the ability to walk off campus. The setting will remain as is until the characters figure out how to revert the change, or on 01/10, whichever comes first.
✽ PDAs will be inoperable until fixed. Tech-savvy characters may realize that the PDAs are powered through inductive charging, and the first step to getting them (also electrical appliances and hot water) to work again is to locate the generator.
✽ All npcs will be ICly unavailable until we unvoid the school.

Hm? Yes, breaking a mirror, even a small piece, sends you back to the "real" school instead of this one. I take it this is your first trip into the void?

[It doesn't shock him; Hinata may have been here a while by Lucifer's measure, but sometimes students get lucky and don't ever have to experience the void. It's just frustrating that neither of them can leave via mirror.]

Time is paused while you're within it, [something that future Lucifer will find is absolutely not true, not in this case,] and if you get injured in it, upon leaving, your injuries will be reset. Whatever state you entered the void in, wherever you entered the void in, will be restored once you leave. That's... normally how it works, anyway. The fact that we can't get out via mirror tells me something is horribly wrong.

I...

[Hinata trails off immediately, because he realizes it's just another thing that he simply doesn't know. Is he lying if he says yes or no when he can't remember anymore what's the true answer? He thought, by now, that he'd be used to this being his reality... but it still makes something sting in his chest, that whole other life that he doesn't know.

He's living as the Hinata he is now, so the best he can do is answer from that, he supposes.]

...I don't think I have. I probably haven't.

[I am pouring one out for Future Lucifer.

In the present, Hinata is mulling over what Lucifer says, feeling more worried by the second.]

That... sounds like we're in a weird situation for sure, though. I'm guessing there isn't any other way out that anyone's found, either... [Something occurs to him just then, as well.] Is it normal for people to disappear as you enter the void?

Disappear as you enter...? No, actually. That strikes me as abnormal, as well as the lack of "shadow students". They're as they sound, simply simulacra of other students but looking more akin to shadowy silhouettes. That said, now that you mention it, and now that I'm thinking about it, I haven't seen the shadow students around...

[But that's not quite as important right now as the prior thing, which is—]

You said that students disappeared as soon as you entered the void? May I ask how specifically? Did they fall into the... black abyss that encompasses the larger void that originates from the auditorium, or...?

[The void, the void 2.0, the void 3.0, where the fuck are we honestly. Lucifer's desperately seeking answers from a man with amnesia.]

[The fact that Lucifer doesn't know what this means and seems concerned about it just makes Hinata Even More Concerned about it.]

Shadow students...? Yeah, I definitely don't remember seeing any while I was running around... I've been pretty distracted since we got in here but I think that I would've noticed, at least.

[It sounds a little creepy, so part of him is glad that he didn't run into them... But the fact they're always there and suddenly are not really cements that something is out of place here, and that makes Hinata's nerves fray. How can he get back to Rokuro and Keigo like this?

Speaking of - a bolt of pain lances through his chest when he thinks about Keigo disappearing, but he should tell Lucifer about it. That's the right thing to do, he thinks.]

Ah, no there- there wasn't an abyss or anything like that, fortunately. I only saw one person disappear, although I think there's another that might be missing too... At midnight, they just vanished into nothing.

[Lucifer has the fascinating ability to be Not Very Comforting At All, so Hinata can't be blamed for the sudden anxiety. The literal devil is just making it worse.]

Vanished into nothing... No, that doesn't normally happen. Not entirely, anyway. See, we — the transfers — can be cast into the void, but the non-transfers cannot. That being said, where once stood a student, would normally stand a shadow.

[Unless god forbid I have the lore wrong.]

The fact that you didn't see one at all is highly suspect, though I can't explain why. That said, there are some differences between this version of the void school, and the one I'm used to traversing. Notably, the fact that mirrors can let us escape, and also, I've noticed chunks of the school missing where it wasn't before. It could mean the fundamentals of the void itself have changed without my knowledge, but I doubt this, as the changes to the prior void were gradual and slow. This is far, far too fast.

[...]

I apologise. This is probably a lot to parse for someone on their first trip here.
