[OPEN] *draws a tarot card* oh shβ
who: Noah & You
what: Tarot readings~
when: Post-Disney fieldtrip, so 02/12 and on
where: Dorm Common Room
warnings: I'm on my pagan bullshit again it's fine
[If you venture into the dorm common room at any point after the fieldtrip ends, you will find Noah sitting in the middle of the floor with a deck of tarot cards, Trying His Best. He only recently acquired these cards (they were scattered about his room, see) and he hasn't had too much time to play with them.
Obviously, the correct thing to do is to play with them now. Step right up and get a very amateurish tarot reading free of charge! He has a book open in his lap about how to do this, including multiple spreads that he can use. If he spots you while he's nose-deep in studying, he'll wave you over with a hand and ask if he can read your fortune β you just have to tell him what you're interested in knowing. Past, present, future? Love? Interpersonal relationships of a non-romantic nature? Just ask!
As a disclaimer, Noah is not responsible for any harm that comes to you if he divines your future and it turns out really badly. That is not his fault. Your fate was written in the stars, after all.]

Well... I don't really know. I let the cards lead.
[According to his research, that's what you're supposed to do. Let the cards lead as you divine fate.]
S...sorry. I don't have anything like a natal chart or a good way to read the heavens... But if you have a question in mind that's not a yes-or-no question, the deck should be able to help.
[Because tarot doesn't really do well with yes-no questions, but if they wanted to word their "will they exist past March" question in a non yes-no way, that could work.]

What... do I have to do...
[ ...something impossible... ]
...to save my brother?
[ They look up at Noah like is this a valid question, if it's not they have a thousand more at the ready ]
i'm fucking weeping i died and left this for 2wks and now theyre dead,
It's an important detail and Noah should ask about it, but he doesn't, and he keeps shuffling untilβ
Without explanation, a single card jumps out of the deck and lands on the floor between them. Noah's hands stop moving as he parses what just happened, and then he silently sets the deck aside and picks up the fallen card.]
Oh... um. It's... The Tower, Reversed.
[Noah gently tucks the card back into the deck like he's almost afraid of it. When Fate deigns to throw a card out of the deck at you, that's The Card, and you listen to it. That's unfortunate, because...]
...there's... nothing you can do. The Tower says to not resist change β or rather that you can't resist it, but you can only brace for impact.
[He looks sheepish, honestly, that his deck would give such a response.]
self fulfilling prophecy
It fell, so it doesn't count.
UGH. anyway i legit pulled my cards out for this one,
That's fair. I'll shuffle again.
[He's only just started doing this and he's not going to argue about if a deck yeeting cards at you is a decent form of divination at this stage even if he feels that it is. Shuffle, shuffle...
He decides on a three-card spread this time, and luckily the deck doesn't throw cards at him after he shuffles it twice. Three cards are laid out before Keigo in the space between the two of them.]
The card on your left, [so Noah's right,] is you as you are now. The middle card is what you can do to save your sibling, and the card on your right is the outcome once you try.
[Pretty traditional spread. Noah flips the cards in the order he listed.]
The leftmost is the Ace of Cups, Reversed. You... I mean, I guess it's obvious, but you're feeling upset about something, aren't you? Which is why you're asking this in the first place... It could be a sign that you're blocking your intuition. The deck wants you not to give up, though.
The centremost is Columba, Reversed. [Which is his deck's equivalent of The Fool.] It... signifies a new beginning that you're reluctant to jump into. And that whatever's coming... it can't be stopped. [Effectively, what The Tower said, in a less threatening light.] It's a card that also indicates being accident-prone and advises you to be mindful of your surroundings. That said, aside from these warnings, Columba advises you not to be reckless in your decision-making when it comes to this new beginning. ...it's not a way to "save" someone, I suppose, but maybe you both want to watch your backs, given the accident-prone thing?
[Noah sighs a bit and flips over the last card. This is Not how this was supposed to go, fortune-telling is supposed to be about fun things like getting wealthy or love readings.]
Eight of Wands, Upright. ...
[He stares down at the cards like, what the fuck are you trying to say?]
...the Eight of Wands is a card that represents a couple of things. Positivity, energy, hard work paying off, infatuation, obsession, and getting carried away, but also it could signal an impending medical emergency. All of that is pretty nebulous, so it depends on what you do with Columba's warnings. If you're not careful, the Eight of Wands could signify that emergency... This card really depends on the card before it and the outcome chosen there.
[But he's stuck on a certain detail, which is,]
Hard work paying off... I guess if you accept the outcome, maybe "saving your brother" is something different from what you think it is. It depends on what you want to save him from, but you have to put things in perspective, I guess. If he's saved from one thing, another thing could pop up, et cetera... S-sorry. This one's a bit hard to wrap my head around.

Be careful on the stairs, they tell themselves. Get home before dark. Uhh... what else should they be careful about... ]
Uhh...
[ It depends, of course it does. But this isn't a step by step manual of how to save their brother, just a general feeling of how it'll go. ]
Doesn't all this mean that even if I try my best, something's going to go wrong and Aniki's going to get hurt or worse?
[ It really is no different than the Tower, then. ]

[Noah waffles over the results visibly again. He wants to say "everything will be fine", but the deck has pulled virtually the same result twice now.]
Um... you're trying to save him from getting hurt in any way, right? While the cards are telling you to be mindful and dare I say intuitive to avoid being hurt while contradicting itself and saying it'll happen anyway... maybe following their advice will lessen the impact?
[For example, if Keigo's brother is going to get hurt beyond repair, maybe being mindful of their surroundings and intuiting everything will soften the blow, like maybe their brother will only get hurt but slightly?
It's a lot of maybes.]
J-just because it says it can't be stopped, it doesn't say the blow can't be lessened.

[ Noaaaaaaaahhh!!!! Why can't he have a deck with only good cards, aren't fortune tellers supposed to say things that make the client happy, that's what Natsume does!! ]
no subject
[That's absolutely not what they're supposed to be doing, fortunetelling is about divining the secrets of the universe so people can prepare for every eventuality, even if it sucks! Natsume's not even nicer than Noah is so why is this happening like this!
Noah puts his face in his hands. He's sorry.]
I'm not trying to freak you out. I know it's too late for that... I really do feel bad. But listen, the cards said you'd be successful somewhere, somehow! Even if that success might be a little or a lot off from what you're expecting it to be...
no subject
"Somehow" huh...
[ They sound a bit glum at that, but, you know. It's vague, and the sort of success they expect is what they need it to be. ]
...it's not like this fate is set in stone either, right? I'll keep trying hard, but... before graduation, can I come get another reading? Do you think it would change? Even just a little bit.
no subject
[Otherwise, how would people like Add or even Harque be able to do time magic? Still... the reading doesn't sit right with him anyway. He wishes it was nicer. Better.]
You can come get a reading whenever you want to, yeah. It might change by then. Who knows how long in the future this is set for anyway.
