[she doesn't know what to say, with his hands on hers and the notebook under her hand - emotions fly through her, plainly writ across her features. she should be alarmed, that he took it. she's confused, that he can read it, embarrassed that he did, sent for a loop from his compliments. Helena feels like she can't find her footing, and a faint flush begins to creep up her cheeks. did he mean it? wait, but it wasn't for him - it was more like a diary, nothing for publication - and anyway, there are parts of this that expose things.]
I...this, it's not a novel at all...it's just my notes...
[it's the worst case scenario. but at the same time, someone is saying they were moved? by unfinished thought?]
How much did you look at this...? It was meant to be for my own eyes.
[there's a slight scolding to it, even through her fluster - really, had he no shame, prying through someone's personal belongings?]
Page 8, and so on, and so forth. I was nothing more than thoroughly impressed by the feelings you wanted to articulate through your attention-grabbing note taking.
[ his voice exposes how taken aback he is by the notion that this was mere supervision. he becomes a person that anyone wants to be, and he falls easily into the role if it shows itself. her fluster due to kind words is enough, so he molds himself into someone who admires her efforts and work, wants to see more of her instrospect and exposition. ]
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and Miss Helena, this brilliant diamond shines bright due to your vision!
[ a soft bit of laughter, kind and considerate, pleased by notes, in other words, her diary? it makes sense why she's so intent on getting it back. ]
Sharp words cut down into an expressive and dazzling outlook, I've learned quite much from it.
[ has she ever thought of making a helena declassified school survival guide? because that would be it. ]
As I wanted to say before: Thank you for the chance...
You're very kind, and I appreciate your words, really, but really...this wasn't meant to be read.
[and that's the firmest she'll get with a stranger, not wanting to be too harsh if it was an honest mistake. the idea of someone opening it to try to find the owner and then getting caught up in the words...well, they'd know swiftly, wouldn't they? there aren't that many Braille writing third years.
there were things in here she didn't want so widely known, after all. her romance observations, to gain insight on something she's lacking, just to name one...]
Perhaps you could do me the courtesy of forgetting all about it?
[ braille isn't that hard to learn, is it? or could it just be that the man he is today had to learn everything, work hard, and put in so much effort that this is mere child's play to him? midori isn't one to half ass, no, not when it comes to his success, and due to both time and patience, he's able to read and understand more languages than others. it's one way of understanding another person, it's a love language, but due to the fact she seems miffed by his actions, he doesn't dig any deeper holes for himself. ]
Leaving it by the chalkboard didn't seem to be the right choice, anyone could have picked it up and taken it home. Reading it gave you enough time to come back, but now that it's back in your hands: please, do forgive me.
That..is true, though. All the same, I do owe you my thanks for keeping it safe.
[oh. she should take her hands away from his - surely that's lingering far too long to make him comfortable? she isn't sure, but it's still a slower parting, trying not to offend.]
Please don't think I bear any ill will. After all, it was my carelessness in the first place.
[oh...and here he is saying something that disarms her again from being miffed that he looked in the first place. it's still an invasion, but he's couching it in pretty enough words that maybe, just maybe, she can forgive this accident.
maybe.]
Oh...well, to be truthful, that is my dream. To write poetry, actually.
[ if that's her interest, he can use it to make mileage on their relationship. he could get personal because what is a person if not their words when they lack sight, it's an interesting take, but he'll have to watch her to make sure of this, she can't just be a normal girl considering the type of school this is. ]
How beautiful...
[ he must see the good in such a hobby, and he comes off impressed though knowing he's always right. ]
Have you spoken with the librarian to suggest a book corner, or a discussion club? [ god knows they need it when they don't have many good books or poems to choose from. ] Show them your poetry, gain feedback, and sign your best sellers.
No...goodness, that would be quite the demand. I can hardly show poetry that doesn't yet properly exist, let alone be so bold as to make some sort of discussion. Besides, there wouldn't be interest.
[the people who want to read this in this school are few and far between. she has to make special requests for books all the time, and thankfully the librarian has been so gracious that when Christmas came, Helena had made sure to drop her off something delicious as a thank you for putting up with them.]
You have a grand imagination, for sure. It's almost inspirational.
It's the year 2000, isn't it, Miss Helena? Perhaps it's you who inspires some of the newer artists of the years to come.
[ it's cute when he thinks about it, how the timeliness work in this world gives them the chance to influence the future. as long as love is inserted, he thinks her efforts can be worth a great amount.
a small laugh, short: ]
A great leader's courage to fulfill his vision comes from passion, not position!
[she flips the book open to a blank page, and reaches in her bag for her stylus, that he might be able to leave the dots without the risk of puncturing the paper.]
[ he's going to sit down in the desk close by, and there's a few grains of something on the surface. slowly, he smacks a few away as he lays the paper properly on the table. ]
You're too kind. Are you familiar with Japanese?
[ he's already dotting on the paper, one after the other as he plays nice. ]
With time and practice, anything's possible, right?
[taking the book back, her fingers brush the name there. a bit odd, but people here have had stranger, and it's not in her nature to openly question it.
(later, when it's percolated enough in her mind, she'll have the sense to ask someone who knows Japanese what the words "sunny weather" are when translated, and then promptly choke on her drink to understand.)]
It depends on what you're looking for in people. Everyone here is very unique...I can't say they're all novel readers, but they're still certainly worth knowing. Mr. Add is quite the genius with machines, and he's a bit prickly in demeanor, but don't let that stop you from asking questions. Mr. Ishimaru's a good person to talk to especially if you're new - he's our new student council president, and I've found him very welcoming. And Subaru's one of my dear friends, and he's always ready to make more. He has a lot of enthusiasm for life - I'm sure you'd get along!
[there. three boys recommended as a starting point, and then Mr. Sunny can develop more friendships on his own from there. at the least, she's sure he'll find his orbit.]
All that said, it's not hard to find me if you're looking for me, if you have more questions or if you'd just like to talk.
That's nice to hear, Miss Helena. I can trust your judgement of others, there's a calming air about you.
[ all the people spoken are some he's heard before, and there's a new one in the pot as well. he finds that he can accept these words on people that midori could speak with. there's no need to cause problems when he needs to get his footing, and so he's happy that there's a few he can connect with, and others that he can share the same space. it's not hard for him to be in anyone's space, or become anyone. ]
Are you within the dormitory?
[ he gets up from his seat now, she can hear him walking to stand next to her. ]
I can walk you back if that's where you were on your way to before I troubled you. [ if she moves, he'll move with her, but for now he'll continue their conversation. ] I'm new here, so maybe you can tell me about everything you've been apart of. I was told there's a void world if you drip blood!!
[ midori sounds excited by the logic of it, that, and he doesn't want to be rude by using the contents of her notes. ]

May I ask your name?
no subject
[ at his name, he nods his head, considering she can't see. ]
Of course! Since I read your work, I'll return it by doing so in paper. May I borrow your book?
