( so, it's like this: nobody likes komaeda.

well, it seems that way a lot of the time, from what norton's observing, and the unfortunate fact of the matter? no matter how absolutely off-his-rocker insane he's been acting, he... well, real or not, he didn't seem to be a bad guy in those memories norton has of him. try as he might, he can't simply act as though they don't exist either. so instead, with a sigh of defeat and an important date that he'd learned in those strange memories in mind, he'll go about collecting those who seem to be... more tolerant (even if that's a generous way to express it) of komaeda lately.

he's already arranged for the most reliable chef he's yet to meet in this school to help by preparing a birthday cake, (and learned quite a bit in the process, actually,) and he's let the others know where they should gather. so, when norton decides it's about time to drag komaeda to the survival club's meeting room for some kind of survival club-related excuse of a reason, there should hopefully already be at least a couple of people there and waiting for them—including one boy holding a white cat who may or may not look a little out of his element.

his voice is soft, but as the cake and the small collection of people he's managed to gather come into view, norton offers a smile. )

[she'll let the ordinary bit slide. because it sounds a bit like slightly above average, and she's cool with that.]

I'd have a lot more hope if you weren't so mean to yourself all the time.

( don't get him to lying, but he does follow where hope takes him so as long as everyone on this team works hard towards that same goal... komaeda's willing to listen, or assist. he takes a step forward, looking around the music room for a split second as he gathers his thoughts. ) You all know what you have to do... as long as you work together and never let the bonds you have break, hope will easily win.

( and if not, then he put his attention in the wrong group. )

Ah... I'm pretty pessimistic sometimes, but it shouldn't influence any of you. That's because you have people who'll make you happy.

So do you! [whether you like it or not] We're your friends, and friends make each other happy. And it's not because you're the ultimate whatever, or not, or anything like that. It's just because you're a person, and every person should get the chance to be happy.

I wouldn't even call myself an Ultimate, my talent... is too ordinary, and who would even have something like it...

( so it's okay, he's as normal as stephanie, kind of. but don't tell him that because he'll get on his high horse and claim he's an ultimate again, yeah, komaeda's brain works messed up. )

Stephanie-san, when can a person decide that someone shouldn't be happy? ( he thinks, tapping his chin in thought. ) Do you have to do good things for that to happen? Isn't a life like that miserable, but I'm always happy, so you should make everyone else happy too.

( not him, when he's happy by default. )

[she's quiet for a little while. just thinking over what he's said.]

... You're an upside-down person, you know. [said very definitively. that is dr. pinky's official medical diagnosis.]

Huh? I don't think so, I thought that was straightforward.

( he's trying to make heads or tails of what she's saying, but it does stand out to him. )

So you must agree that you can only be good to have good things happen to you.

Being nice means you usually have nicer things happen to you. And being mean gets you meanness back. Good things happen to everyone, though, just like bad things. [such is the fickle nature of life.]

I just don't know what you think "good" means... or what you think most anything else means, really. That's what I mean by upside down; you always use words the exact opposite way I would. [beat] It's not wrong, just different.

That could be true, but it's not necessary. You can be nice and bad things still happen to you.

( he stares at the wall before them as he wonders if that would be the perfect spot, but he doubts it. ) Being mean can also give you nice things in return, so you shouldn't look at it like that.

( he's just giving some advice as an adult! though, it's all wisdom departed from how his life has been. )

Hope is everywhere, I know you had it too, because if you didn't... you wouldn't be here, even this place is a stepping stone to strengthen your own.

[... she was about five minutes from going into a whole Thing and now she's just distracted.]

We're here because we were kidnapped? If I'm here because I'm hopeful, I won't even hope for snow on Christmas anymore.

It's just a hurdle, that's how you look at this.

( let him slowly get his point across. ) If you have hope, you'll be able to get over this pretty easily.

( and christmas? ok... god forbid they're still here until christmas. ) Even with all that has happened, you haven't let your feelings overwhelm you, Stephanie-san. It makes everyone believe that maybe they can make it.

There's no try either... you've all been doing, and it's really nice to see that. Some would have accepted defeat, but none of you did...

( well, i'm pretty sure she doesn't want komaeda to answer that. )

Yeah, you're right... I was pretty lame to say something like that.

( and he smiles after, leaning into her finger that she's poking him with. )
