- [You honestly think there's a murder happening when it hits six in the morning and you hear a scream on the first floor--it's near the bathrooms, too.
But upon actually checking, that isn't the case.
There's no dead bodies, especially not in Murderless March, but Inaba might as well be a proverbial corpse, because she's going to die of embarrassment.
If someone just takes a peek, they'll immediately understand why.
The normally composed and cold girl named Inaba Himeko is completely stuck in a maid outfit.
Unfortunately for her, too, she doesn't have something to cover it up with, so she's just stuck like this. On a school day. Which also means all of the third years get to see her in this during the entire class period.
Of course this means aggressively trying to avoid people now more than ever, to the point where the moment she sees a transfer student--or anyone else, really, she starts to bolt. But she's pretty easy to catch up to, given that she isn't exactly the athletic sort.]
↳ option two. ( dreamscape #01 / cw: human experimentation mentions & sudden mind + emotion reading )
- [The dream that you enter in leads you from the forest into what seems to be a clubroom.
You're alone--but there seems to have been some activity in the room. Warmth.
But then the door opens with a bit of a creak, and there's...
...a mysterious man that appears, the light in their eyes completely gone. They see you, and speak, walking further into the clubroom. They open their mouth, but the voice that comes out is monotone, near emotionless.]
"I see.
I suppose that you, a visitor, are interesting enough to join the bonus round."
[And just as he says that, another set of footsteps enters in.
It's a girl that you probably do recognize. However, she's not wearing the usual Yogen uniform, but instead a very different uniform and her breath stills and her eyes widen in shock, her mouth opening, the words not entirely coming out at first.
Her nails dig into the skin and the shock soon turns to anger in her expression.]
Did you do something to them--
[She steps in quickly, and the man swiftly moves to leave.]
Goddamn it. [Inaba curses, because she knows all too well that she's powerless to stop anything. Of course she is.] Sorry about that.
[She answers, calm. Cool. Collected.
Just as always.]
That was supposed to be my problem. [No emotion.] They didn't spout some weird bullshit at you, did they?
↳ option three. ( dreamscape #02 / cw: memory loss, but for inaba only )
- [In this dreamscape, you find yourself in the same clubroom.
However, you find yourself surrounded by five others, Inaba included. Those who are observant will notice that the pendant that she normally wears is absent.
At some point, you're noticed and she turns to you and asks--]
Hey, have you figured out what you want to write for March's gazette yet? It's due at the end of the month, so we have a lot of time, but it's better to get things started earlier rather than later.
↳ option wildcard.
- [Want to play something completely different that isn't any of these prompts? Feel free to hit me up at
Also as a heads up, the second prompt will deal with characters being able to suddenly hear Inaba's thoughts/feel her emotions randomly and if you want to opt into the reverse, feel free to let me know, I'm down for it. But it's primarily there for people to understand Inaba a little more. This actually describes what the phenomena entails better than I can.
And the third prompt deals with Inaba's muddled up memories and how she's experienced a lot of very specific memory loss that isn't quite amnesia.]

[She sees the bag, but she can't see what's inside of it that clearly.]
no subject
...
Why the hell did he say any of that. He'll have to kick his own ass later.
Anyway, he opens it up, holding it out to her. ]
Look familiar?
no subject
[Inaba's eyes widen and then her mouth parts to say the words.]
Cardiospermum halicacabum...
[She grits her teeth.]
You said you found those in that classroom?
no subject
[ He's not really familiar with these at all. Just a little outside of the scope of what he learned at Shuchiin. ]
They were left in this bag, on top of one of the desks.
...what're these supposed to be?
no subject
They're heartseeds, to put it simply.
no subject
What the hell, that again? That must explain...
[ From the conversation much, much earlier. Ugh, he can't help but be curious then. ]
...this 'Heartseed', did it ever draw anything like an inner child out of you?
[ That's his best guess of what just happened. Not that it was just a much younger Inaba. ]
no subject
[She sighs a bit, having guessed a few things based on his phrasing.
When she speaks up again, it's with as much seriousness as she can take from the situation.]
The Second once had us become younger during a certain timeframe at one point. The ages varied from becoming a baby to just a year ago or so. Although I was lucky to never revert that young... I guess you must have seen the 'younger me' in there, then.
[...]
I'm sorry.
no subject
What do you have to be sorry for, exactly?
no subject
[That's the answer that she gives aloud, at least. But it's not the only answer that is heard.
It was all over, after all.
And now that it's being brought to the surface again, it's scary. I don't like being so seen like this. It was bad enough that people are killing each other. But this... I want to cry.
I need to make sure this ends soon.
And when it does...
I can go back to being alone again.]
And even though she's aware of the transmission, she tries to ignore it like it's nothing, turning on her heel.]
Anyway, let's go. We need to get out of here, right? Since this isn't real.
no subject
Instead the information was presented to him, laid out as this dream peeled back layer after layer--
That's enough. ]
I told you, Inaba. You're not going to be alone.
[ It's confidence that, again he may feel embarrassed by later. But who really gives a damn at this point? ]
You want to apologize for this? Don't make me laugh. If anything, you should apologize to yourself for trying to keep yourself isolated. It's clear to me that you didn't face any of this 'Heartseed' business alone, so why should you face anything else, from that school to this one alone?
[ With a brief moment of hesitation, he concludes: ]
If none of this is real, then I'll accept that. However, I refuse to accept being your enemy. I'm going to assist you in any way that I can, but I won't let you hurt yourself any more.
no subject
[And for the first time, Inaba's voice crackles--not with seriousness or blunt sarcasm, but hurt. Her voice is watery and shaky with emotion that she doesn't usually show.
But there's also frustration, too.]
And it's because nobody will understand. Even like this, nobody could possibly get it.
[She laughs, something tattered and broken.]
After all, who would understand a girl who's been through hell and back dealing with all this supernatural bullshit for two years before things went back to normal, finally, and then wakes up in another place where killing is not only fucking commonplace, but it's rewarded?! How I later find out that I've probably been killed at least five times here and I don't remember shit about what happened! How this place is supposed to be the afterlife, but I don't even know how I died! How I don't even know how the people I care about are doing!
And how people keep saying "we're going to get out of here and back to where we were before" and I'm the only one who can't fucking accept that...! Because I have no plans on coming back to life or dealing with some stupid bullshit reincarnation or godly force or whatever!
no subject
[ After all. Nothing supernatural happened to him prior to coming here. Nothing extraordinary, past his scholarship. ]
But, I do understand the rest of it. Hating this system that rewards murdering, being unsure of who's going to stab you in the back figuratively or literally.
[ He grasps his wrist, feeling the tally marks burning just a bit. ]
Nothing makes sense. I'm fucking dead, and I don't get to say goodbye to my family, my friends-- the girl I'm in love with.
[ It feels... weird saying that out loud. But Shinomiya'll never hear it. It doesn't matter. What matters is, he can't deny that any more all things considered. He's dead. ]
Even so, I can't do anything on my own. I'm practically worthless. I don't want any of them to die, but I don't want to keep away from others. The instant I do that, I'll have lost, and Miyuki Shirogane will cease to exist.
[ He hesitates, taking in a deep breath. What the hell is he talking about? ]
I won't force you out of your shell, Inaba. If you would rather be alone, that's fine.
But I want to understand. And... you're right. I want to be your friend.
no subject
...
And when he says it aloud, she can't help but mutter under her breath, shakily:]
Stupid. There's no way... I'm such a dark person, you know? You already know that I can't trust anyone here, right? How am I supposed to be so sure that if I did... try any sort of friendship, that it'd wouldn't hurt me in the end?
[She chews on her lower lip. It isn't that she doesn't want friends. She's just too terrified that she'll regret it, that she'll only get hurt.
That's why she purposely distances herself.
And yet-]
The real me is really a weak, pathetic person like this... Ahahaha.
no subject
[ Being vulnerable, letting someone learn who you are, what you're about. It's tough. Even he's never shown anyone the "real him".
... ]
The real you. Figuring that out, letting someone else know that, it's terrifying isn't it?
[ Her opinion of herself is so low, to the point of self-isolating so much, believing she's that weak... ]
But you've faced more terrifying shit than I ever have. All of this, speaking to your friend about the guy you both like-- and it doesn't take a genius to realize that doesn't end up too bad in the end.
I don't care if you see yourself as weak. You're still a hell of a lot stronger than I am.
[ 'And certainly a lot less pathetic than me.' ]
no subject
And it ends well for us, but-- then I don't have a life after high school? Or I just simply don't remember it?
[She hugs herself, fingers digging into the fabric of the uniform. Her voice isn't steady at all.]
Are you sure about that...? I might just crumble right now, after all. It's taking so much from me just to - just to even say this sort of thing... without running away. I really want to run, so badly.
no subject
[ It's getting to her pretty badly, and suddenly Miyuki's confidence level is plummetting. They're questions he doesn't have the answers to, and boy if he's starting to feel the pressure.
Oh god, please don't end with her crying-- ]
Well... you know--
[ He rubs the back of his head sheepishly, just kinda laughing a little. ]
Maybe... maybe this isn't the best time for me to put you on the spot like this? We should refocus on getting out of here, maybe.
no subject
[Her eyes are already watery but she tries to blink them away, wiping them with a sleeve before clearing her throat, giving her rejuvenated vigor.]
Actually, you shouldn't be putting me on the spot in the first place, I'm just a shadow, after all.
[Never someone who could be considered the protagonist; just someone who hides behind others and plots things in the background.]
But you're right, it's probably dangerous to stay here for too much longer.
[And thankfully for the two of them, there's a hallway that does lead to the front entrance.
Is it freedom? Or--?]
no subject
Once Miyuki spots the front entrance, he runs right up to it, pausing right at placing his hand on the door. He pulls back for a second, looking back at Inaba. ]
I think this is it. I'm going to open it-- is that alright?
[ It has to be. Come on, get them out of here...! ]
no subject
[Regardless of whether or not she's serious, she's ready for basically anything.
The door opens and there's a bright light that shines through, and from behind the two of them, there's a voice; a kind, gentle one of a young man--]
"Be good friends with her, okay?"
[It's a voice that makes Inaba flinch and she almost turns on her heel, but there's a gentle push--
And the bright light fades,
growing ever so darker,
until the background fades into a dark, dark black, disorienting before they find themselves in the forest again.]
no subject
The voice gives him a jolt, and even though he's ready to walk out, he turns his head back. Who the-- was that--
Before he has any time to fully process anything, the two find themselves back in the forest, Miyuki trying to regain his balance. He wipes at his mouth with the back of his hand as everything starts to hit him at once. Wait. ]
Inaba, are you...!
[ He turns to face her, trying to gauge how she's doing. It should be over, but... how is she?? ]
no subject
I'm fine.
[She's not.
But she's wiping her tears anyway to pretend.]
Stupid, selfless bastard...
[Even though the words themselves are an insult, there's something fond about the way she says it too, her voice watery.]
no subject
...
He's not going to turn down a request like that. Of course not. ]
Come on. Let's get out of here.
no subject
[For a multitude of reasons, but none of which she plans on voicing right now.]
