I wasn't doing anything that would've set it off. It's... probably a result of the shadows that have been pulling at us around the school. Like... the mirrors have been. [Is that explanation helpful?]

[He’s not even going to hide how the fact that they don’t seem to have an escape route this time somehow manages to make him seem excited rather than worried, and he gives a thoughtful hum as he carefully sets Nene down onto her feet. He keeps one hand out to steady her, his eyes looking Noah over for just a moment to double check that he’s alright before he’s addressing the group once more.]

We’ve probably been chosen for something, then! Anyone got any ideas? It might be a good call to make our way to the source. Down to the auditorium, see if anything’s changed?

[ The fact that they can't leave is alarming on its own, but knowing that Nene Yashiro has seemed unwell lately, and apparently isn't doing any better now, here, is even more so. Their surroundings aren't entirely obscured anymore, if nothing else, and Nene and Noah are faces that Alice recognizes. The other fellow must be a trusted friend to that pair, so he relaxes somewhat, though his frown stays in place, concerned, as his gaze lingers on Nene some seconds longer before flicking towards Childe.

They're all quite composed, despite the situation! He ought to pull himself together, too... He's surely older than all of them... ]

...I suppose that would give us somewhere to begin solving this inconvenient mystery...

Mm... I don't know if much will have changed down there, since it's still probably like Henir. [Pauses.] —The... it's still a void, I mean. We can try it, though. I'll guard the rear. I don't know if those shadow students are going to be... violent, I guess, but I'm the most equipped to deal with them.

[Shadow magic and all that. Childe can take the front for similar reasons.]

I've seen lights in the void before. It takes a while to show up- a bit over half an hour, but they super far away.

( it might be good to know. otherwise, nene sticks close to the group, carefully watching the floor so that she doesn't like... trip and fall in the hole. she might, she's already clumsy at her best. maybe i'll even roll for it.

Lights? I don’t think I’ve ever seen any lights.

[He’s a bit distracted for the moment, honestly, taking in the sights and sounds and scents of… Well. This run down little corner of reality. He loves it here. In some cursed AU he’s probably already hung up several Live, Laugh, Love signs to make the place more homey. So it takes a second for him to catch onto the meaning of the Nenudges, though it clicks eventually and he’s shooting Alice a slightly sheepish look]

[ Noah Ebalon... How brave! These lights sound like another spooky mystery, yet these three are discussing the void topic as if they've made frequent trips to this place... Consequently, Alice stares at them with clear bewilderment while considering that if they're to be a team working together to find their way back to the usual school, he should make himself useful as well. Perhaps he could act as a barrier between the questionable floorboards and the others, if need be...

For now, good manners are deserving of recognition, and he answers Childe with a nod. What a mouthful of a name, but of course he'll use it properly! ]

So the three of you know the void and its perils well?

[ The floorboards are pretty questionable, so it's best to watch their step! If he's paying careful enough attention, Alice might be able to catch sight of something glittering beneath one of the lifted floorboards. ]

...Hmm?

[ The glittering catches Alice's eye moments after he has reminded himself to watch where his feet land, and it gives him pause. Could that be what Nene Yashiro meant? An eerie unexpected light?

It seems more pressing than his previous question, at any rate. Steps coming to a stop, Alice points out the floorboard. ]

You lot can see that, yes?

[Noah, trying not to snicker at "Childe Tartaglia" in the background

Anyway, when Alice pauses, Noah squints ahead from where he's guarding the rear and gives a single nod.]

Uh-huh. Can we... reach it? Do you think?

[He's never been able to finesse his shadow magic to grab things before, so.]

—and yeah. I used to hang out in the void a lot. I come here when I'm upset since time is paused and I can just lay on the floor. Anyway, shiny thing.

Personally I like it here more than I do in the other place. The supposedly normal one.

[He crouches down, squatting on the balls of his feet to see if he can get a better look on what’s emitting the light.]

More stuff to do over here, after all. The perils are part of the appeal.

I try not to come here. I don't like it. But sometimes it just happens. I saw the lights when I needed to just get away from everything though. But Noah and Childe like it here, so I try to be aware at least...

( admittedly, those lights are totally souls, not unlike the ones a previous mission group fuckin clapped... but nene definitely doesn't know that. and as childe squats, nene places her hands on his back and looks over his shoulder. it's the niichan-ness of it all. )

[ It's partially obscured by the floorboard, but the object seems to be within reach if someone wants to try sticking their hand in to grab it. If one looks closely, they might be able to discern that it's a piece of a mirror, or at least what looks like one. It shows no reflection, but it does seem to glimmer despite the relative darkness of the other school. Those with supernatural sight will also notice that it has an faint white glow to it. ]

[Noah having The Eyes because of a spirit contract like: oh haha—

anyway he definitely doesn't say anything and instead he tries to stick his little hand into the hole to grab the thing.]

Careful. If it’s broken it might be sharp.

[He says this like a dad cautioning a kid who absolutely already knows what they’re doing and doesn’t need the added advice, and after a moment he shifts to get his fingers beneath the floorboard. It’s awkward and clumsy for a moment given there’s no sensation in his digits, but once he gets them in position he yanks upwards with the majority of his strength in order to pry the wood up a bit more. Just to give Noah some added room to work.]

[ Obviously they don't need an additional pair of hands for one floorboard, but upon noticing that something seems odd about Childe's movements, Alice stretches his own hands out, too, with the intention of working the piece of wood out of the way completely. No splinters or cuts for anyone, please and thank you! ]

What is it...?

[ From this angle, he can't make anything out, and he won't lean too much closer — there's no room. ]

( good job team! but nene doesn't have much to offer save for Looking at the Thing with her Special Eyes. what's the verdict? )

[ With the floorboards pulled up, Noah should be able to reach down far enough to reach the piece of the mirror. Noah's fingertips will will be stopped just short of touching the mirror by a cold, thin pale hand. Slender fingers wrap around his wrist, gripping tightly for seconds before disappearing and leaving nothing but shadows beneath the floor. This might be jarring, but aside from the brief numbness that follows, there seems to be no damage to him.

The mirror fragment is easily taken. It's cool to the touch, but it does provide a bit of a light. It's a fair sized shard, looking as though it might have belonged to a small mirror - perhaps about ten inches or so in diameter.

Finally, there is a message etched into the floorboard that was pulled up:

"There's not enough TIME."

It appears to be a mirrored version of the messages that have been appearing in the regular version of the school's clock tower recently. ]

[Thank you Alice for moving the wood away because the moment Noah's screaming like that, Childe is jumping to his feet and yanking the boy back and away from the new hole in the floor. Practically scruffing him like a kitten, eyes flickering around the innards of the compartment and searching for some sort of assailant to set his sights on. When he can't see anything there, the murderous intent on his expression is very quickly replaced by concern, turning to look over Noah and assessing him for any injuries.]

What happened? Are you hurt?

perhaps more importantly, though... is the message. that's been there more often, huh? does it look like there's blood around the letters or anything? nene's INVESTIGATIN! )

...I'm fine. [He did not yell. He's not a scaredy-cat. Noah Ebalon does not scream at spooky things, he doesn't cry about horror games either. Fuck you he's tough.] There was... something grabbed my wrist while I was trying to get to the fragment, and my hand went a little numb after, but it let go... I'm okay.

[ Alice absolutely screams at spooky things and can't stomach horror games, and he may have yelped and jumped back reflexively, pulling the floorboard with him. In his opinion, Noah's reaction is perfectly warranted and reasonable. Thank goodness the boy is fine, and wrapped in his friends' arms, however!

Letting go of a breath, Alice loosens his grip on the floorboard now broken off and clutched against his chest. The unsettling message is fully on display, the piece of wood held out once Nene begins to inspect the writing. ]

So it attacked you, Noah Ebalon?! This... thing?! And now there's nothing... right?

The hand appears to be connected to an arm! It's deathly pale, and it retracts quickly. But if anyone in the group is quick about it, or just lucky enough to be looking at the right angle, they might catch the fleeting sight of the familiar face of the original student council president laying beneath the floorboards before the form melts into the shadows.

There's nothing on the floorboard! It looks like it was scratched in using a blade of some sort, but it does seem to be fairly recent. Unfortunately, there's no way of knowing exactly when it was etched in or who left the message for them to find, or even why they had left it. It's a bit of an unusual sight in the void where everything seems to be aged nearly beyond recognition, and which seems to reset each time one visits. ]
