It's time for a FAMILY MEETING!

Who: Everyone!
When: May 11th, 6 PM
Where: Class 1-B (Gaming Club Items have been stored safely)
What: It's time for a family meeting! Because seriously some things need to be DISCUSSED.
WARNINGS: Death and murder, discussions of cannibalism

After a night of a feral cat losing it's goddamn mind, a day of half the adults and several students looking absolutely exhausted and more, and the end of the auction, clearly something is up. Plus, there'd been plans to investigate certain things after the last meeting that never had been elaborated on. So this time, Nene takes things into her own hands. So once again, transfer students will find a note in their lockers requesting their presence at Class 1-B at 6 PM, after everyone else has gone home.

Even if last time was... kind of a mess.

Is she desperate enough to enact a speaking ball? ... Not yet. But in her pockets is a brand new NERF gun and five darts.

So she unearths the cardboard jail, set up around some desks in the corner, but otherwise clears the board and sets out pieces of chalk... but hoo boy, does she look kind of miffed? And it doesn't even have anything to do with Hanako-kun cracking up at Gay Baby Jail. He'll understand soon enough.

On the board is several things in chalk- "LAST NIGHT", "NEW THINGS" and "FROM LAST TIME" with lines underneath, like she's perparing to take notes. Thankfully, there is more than one piece of chalk however.

[ Twelve compared to her one... The frown tugs a little deeper on Nao's face, but less angry or upset and more... pity. She motions for him to roll his sleeve back down to cover up his wrist, and if he doesn't and she's close enough, she's pulling it down for him. ]

Evidently you've been busy. But you don't remember earning any of that, do you?

[He doesn't roll it back down right away. He even holds his arm out so she can do it for him, his whole manner almost childishly please to let someone else fuss over him like that.]

You noticed, huh? Yup. None of us remember anything about those! Not getting them, or what they mean, or whatever.

[He's shameless in saying it, yet perfectly casual. No reason for anyone nearby to think they're talking about anything all that important. He's just fixing his cuff for him, isn't that nice?

But even smiling, the stare he has aimed at her is pointed and intrigued.]

But not you. So what makes you so special?

[C'mon, give him something he can go back to Shuichi with and settle that debate.]

I'm not.

[ She's nobody special, and she wholeheartedly believes as much, straightening Kokichi's cuff and making sure the cuff is buttoned and everything. But once that's done, she settles back in her chair and crosses her arms over her chest, going back to staring out across the room instead of at Kokichi. ]

You're better off asking whoever stuck me in that box. It's... probably the reason why I was able to survive from one school year to the next.

[ In there, everything was frozen, no life to expire, no memories to deteriorate ]

[He stares at her a moment longer before sighing dramatically and slumping in his seat.]

Come onnnnn, can't anything be easy...? At least tell me what those things mean! Or why you know more than the rest of us...

[Pretty please???]

[ Life isn't easy, boy!! She looks almost smug at him saying she knows more than the rest of them, but the truth isn't that easy either. ]

I know more because I've been through this before. Sort of.

[ She lived past the auction at one point? She remembers the auction, just not this auction where she was the one featured... which makes her sigh, staring down at her hands in her lap. ]

Tally marks are used for counting. These notate the number of times you've taken a life, or lost one.

[ holy shit an actual answer ]

...Huh.

[Hell, he won't even complain about any smugness. He's just caught up in getting an answer for once. His face goes blank, already turning over this new information, fitting new pieces into the puzzle.

"Taken a life or lost one." Maybe it's easier for him to accept given the mess he came from before "waking up" here. He's already died once before, after all. Theoretically. The fact they they're all still kicking, of course...

Damn. What even is all this? Some kind of really intense trick, some mind games? Is it real some kind of actual magic or whatever? That feels silly just thinking it, but he remembers the pain of dying so vividly. It's hard to imagine how that could have been faked. It's just also hard to imagine these two death game schools are completely unrelated, and one just happens to be somehow genuinely supernatural.

God, this is fucked.

His eyes cuts sideways to her after a long few moments, thoughtful.]

So what were you doing before all this? Your life didn't just start in the creepy murderschool, right? I've been hearing some craaazy stories from the others...

[ An actual answer, and the fact that Kokichi isn't taken aback like Clamor is makes her narrow her eyes just a little, though it comes with a nod of approval rather than a squint of suspicion.

Sometimes, all things are murder school. ]

No, I'm not supposed to be here. Before this, I was just... living my life. Same as any of you guys, from what I can gather.

[ Living life, committing crimes, whatever it is, she doesn't seem like she wants to say anymore. ]

Pretty wild assortment of lives we've got gathered here.

[Pointed, but he's not gonna waste his breath digging for her backstory right now. She doesn't exactly sound eager to talk about it. She'd probably just get angry and hostile again, and he wants to keep her talking while she's feeling so cooperative.]

So why do you get to remember while the rest of us don't? A game isn't fair if only some people get to know the rules. Who's in charge here? I wanna file a complaint!

I don't know. If you want to complain, take it up with the principal.

[ She's not the one in charge of the school or who makes the rules, get off her back. And that's saying nothing about how games aren't always fair, or how malleable rules are— how they can be changed, or broken, or made up- and that's all at the discretion of those in charge. ]

The only reason I remember is because I didn't properly die, probably.

[Rules and fairness matter if there's an audience. If they don't matter here...well, that implies that certain suspicions he had about his last killing game might not hold true here.

Anyway, there's something else he can latch onto here.]

Didn't you hear? The principal's been missing. Since like...spring break, at least.

[If the principal is the one actually running this game – if that isn't just an offhanded comment – then does their absence imply that something is different about this "round" of the game?]

What does that even mean, missing?

[ Legit missing? Killed off? Ditched work because being the principal of a hell school must suck? ]

Then, who's in charge now? The principal must've been replaced, right?

[He watches her carefully out of the corner of his eye, searching for any hint of deception. It doesn't seem likely, given how everything's gone so far, but he didn't survive as long as he did in the last death game by trusting people blindly.

But otherwise, his manner remains casually and apparently flippant as he shrugs.]

Who knows? I think poor Miss Vice Principal's been running things for now. But then again, there was a "dinner with the principal" prize in the auction, so maybe they showed back up...? Still haven't seen or heard anything about them, though!

[ She lets out a little scoff when she hears the vice principal's the one at the helm, because lord help that woman. I was PMed and did update the auction list with the principal dinner winner, which is Senku who received what amounts to an IOU for when the principal is available, just so everybody else knows too. ]

Sounds to me like you were better off wasting your points trying to get in touch with the principal, than on me. Or do you not believe in being so direct?

Ehh? But I get to ask you questions right now. That seems pretty direct to me.

[Rather than whenever the principal decides to show up. If they aren't dead in the pipes or something, anyway...]

Besides, Doll-chan is sooo nice! I'm super glad I picked you! It'd have been such a waste if some other moron won and just let you bleed out and then did god knows what with the body...

[ It's okay... the repairmen unclogged the pipes and now they can reassemble the principal, wait for him.

Nao makes a face at him, though it's hard to tell whether that's at the nickname or the accusation of being nice or Kokichi's general being, but it does plunge into a deep scowl at the thought of desecrating a body. ]

[ Name names. ]

I don't even know, that's the scary part! I told you in the bathroom, didn't I? Last time we found a body, someone hid it in the clocktower for some reason and just left it there rotting for weeks. Who does that?? And some of the people here are such freaks, I don't wanna know what they'd do with first dibs on a body...

So aaanyway. How's this whole game work? Are we aiming for a certain number of tally marks? If you get marks from dying, does that mean you just respawn or something? They really haven't told us anything.

[ So lucky... Honestly, though. ]

[ She sets that down first of all, eyes sharp as they flash at Kokichi, but she looks away after, brows drawn together in uncertainty. ]

I don't really know, though... There's nobody to tell anybody anything; it was all sort of unspoken. Having the most "points" by graduation was a popular thought. The senpai have experienced the game and know the rules by watching, while the first years... we get caught up in it and learn for next time.

[ Sometimes getting caught up in it means dying. Coming back, though... ]

Do you know how long it takes for a soul to renew itself? Seven years.

[It sure sounds like a game. A really shitty one where no one is explicitly told the rules and how to win, maybe, but a game regardless. He doesn't flinch away as she snaps at him, just watches her with a cool expression and a slight, unreadable smile, thoughtful.]

So if we hadn't stopped you from dying, then you would have revived in seven years to try again?

I don't know. It's just a belief... It's not like anybody would be keen to test that out.

[ Definitely not her, who idly rubs her thumb over the fabric over her left wrist, who doesn't want to die even once because what is seven years to somebody who is dead? It may as well be an eternity. ]

...you don't remember everything when you come back, either. If it's without remembering, the "you" who died may as well be permanently gone— it wouldn't be the same, you wouldn't be the same person- it's not...

[ It's a mess of an existential crisis, that's what it is, and she shakes her head because she doesn't want to think about it. ]

[Something about that itches at some deep corner of his mind. It's hard to say what it is exactly, but it jostles the same brain cells as his suspicions about their memories and the flashback lights from back in the Ultimate Academy. Nothing concrete, but it's certainly something that's gonna drive him crazy in the coming days.

His eyes flick to her worrying at her wrist. With a quick stretch, he rests his chin in his hands, the picture of idle bored chatter to anyone who happens to glance their way.]

How creepy... Hey, is it just a tally for every death and kill, or do they cancel each other out or something? Can you tell which it is just from looking at them? I wanna know if I had a crazy kill streak going on or what, y'know?

[Flippant, or just covering for how deeply curious he is about all of this? You decide.]

I don't know.

[ Honestly? looking at Kokichi, she suspects crazy streak, and with that thought she shifts a little away from him in her chair, which honestly isn't easily done without falling right over. ]

It's not like people advertise their marks or talk about them. High numbers make you a target, so most people hide them with long sleeves or wristbands or makeup or whatever. You especially should be careful not to show anybody your numbers.

[He's definitely seen glimpses of some people's wrists that seem higher than his! His score isn't that high!

But he catches that look and snickers.]

Relaaax, that was a lie. I'm totally a pacifist! Would a serial killer try so hard to save some random girl?

[Well. Maybe if said serial killer was really interested in the information said random girl has. But no worries, he's definitely a harmless supreme leader of evil.]

Buuut, if I'm understanding it right, doesn't all that mean you can "win" whether you die a lot or kill a lot? Becoming a target still gets you another point, doesn't it? It just takes longer.

[ Anything more than zero is high, with the weight that it carries. Both killing and dying... it's against human nature to do either. ]

I don't know. I wouldn't want to die a dozen times and wait a hundred years just to catch up to you, and you don't know what the target number is either. I don't think mass murder for the sake of numbers is the answer to graduation either... otherwise the school would have been gassed or set on fire.
