a) travels
• open — 05/19, 2nd floor, right wing
( it takes little time for him to figure out the idea — that he can't leave. what's really strange about it is that... others can? there's a distinct lack of physical barriers preventing him, but even so, it's as if the world itself is engineered to trap him here. it is... something that he makes note of, but after some time spent checking his options, it's also something he sincerely doubts will be easily solved. more importantly, what he notices is that there are some students who just... don't go home. as if they aren't concerned with even trying to leave, even as the building begins to empty out for the evening.b) find my way
so it's them he decides to focus on, and the next person to pass him in the hallway is his first victim. with a wave to draw their attention, amami offers a smile. at the same time, his mind turns, trying to figure out how best to phrase this so he doesn't seem like he's crazy if he's wrong. lets see... first off: )
Sorry, but do you have a minute?
• open — 05/19, 1st floor, bulletin board
( another thing he finds to be of note as he wanders through the halls is the bulletin board. the rules, for one, are beyond bizarre — that's a puzzle that he's going to pocket for the time being. what he's really interested in right now is the class assignments. it takes him a few minutes, peering through the names recorded on the sheet, but it does strike him that not all of the names are unfamiliar. a few stand out: kaede akamatsu, shuichi saihara, kokichi ouma... if it's true... well, at least one of those names is someone that amami has reason to consider may be trustworthy in a situation like this.c) wildcard
option one:
this time, victim number two is anybody who happens to be near the front hall. turning to glance at them, he gestures to the sheet. )
Hey, you wouldn't happen to know Kaede Akamatsu, would you?
option two:
( or maybe your name is one of those he'd recognize in the first place. in that case, when he turns, instead of an amicable smile, you're treated with a momentary expression of wide-eyed surprise. )
What a coincidence, I didn't think I'd see you here.
• open — anywhere, any time
( have an idea? feel free to throw anything else my way, or if you're unsure, you can hit me up via pm or atkagehira! )

no subject
Yeah, let's go there.
[ Kaede even starts to walk that way, a stark contrast to her hesitance earlier. She can do this, she has to. Honestly, it's a miracle her legs feel strong enough to carry her right now, but maybe it's because she'll have the chance to tell him the truth, to apologize. The faster she can come clean, the better.
She owes it to him, after all. ]
no subject
I heard about what happened.
( which... it may seem strange, that he had to "hear about" it despite being the victim and all — but that's how it is. if this is the reason behind that weak smile and those shaky hands, then there's no point in beating around the bush. it's best to be upfront from the beginning and get things out of the way, and while his expression is serious, there's not really any sense of anger in it. )
no subject
...
[ She falls silent, willing herself not to cry. If he knows, why isn’t he angry with her? Why did he seek her out and even smile at her earlier?
Don’t cry. Don’t cry.
It doesn’t work. Tears start rolling down her cheeks, and she desperately wishes they wouldn’t. She shouldn’t be the one crying over this. ]
I’m so sorry, Amami-kun.
[ There’s so much she wants to say... but what else can she say? All the words she had prepared as they walked over here are suddenly gone. ]
no subject
Sorry? It's not like you did anything wrong.
( she's probably just feeling bad that she couldn't do anything about his death, right? something like that. it's kaede, after all; he thought they got along pretty well. even now, watching those big ghibli tears begin to stain her cheeks, he has to reign in the big brother impulse in him to brush them away. instead, he ends up with his hands on his hips, frustration colouring his expression. )
It's my fault, really — I should have been more careful. Sorry, Akamatsu-san, but it looks like I wasn't able to put an end to the killing game.
no subject
She tries not to cry even more when he apologizes, the only thing stopping her from doing so the realization that he doesn't know. Kaede vehemently shakes her head. ]
No, I'm the one who wasn't able to put an end to it.
[ And she knows she needs to explain that, so: ]
I... I set a trap for the mastermind, because I thought I could save everyone if I was able to kill them.
[ She looks down at the ground as she confesses that, because she was the one who started the killing game by letting those thoughts take root in the first place. ]
You were the one who got caught in it instead. I'm sorry.
[ She did do something wrong. She was trying to do the right thing, but instead Kaede made a huge mistake—one she can't take back. ]
no subject
( for a long moment, he doesn't actually say anything. what he does do is run a hand through his hair, shutting his eyes as the situation begins to make sense. when he finally speaks, his voice is low and it's clear that his tone is very carefully measured. it isn't that he wants to make kaede feel worse, if it's really as she says then he's sure she feels awful already, but at the same time... )
I thought... I told you all not to do anything unnecessary?
( and the worst part is that... it checks out. working together with the ultimate detective himself, it makes sense that the two of them could have found the hidden passage.
amami gives a long exhale, pinching at the bridge of his nose. )
What was it, then? Whatever it was, it must have done the job pretty instantly — I didn't even fully realize what had happened until Ouma-kun brought it up.
( and even then... it wasn't until he saw the look on kaede's face that he believed it was really possible. )
no subject
She can't even refute the unnecessary comment either—now that she's had time away from the situation, Kaede realizes she shouldn't have tried to fix everything on her own. As she speaks again, her voice is quiet, but firm. Kaede will answer whatever he wants to ask, after all. ]
It was... a shotput. I'm a fan of Rube Goldberg machines, so I set one up so that the shotput would roll along the bookcase and fall right where the camera was.
[ And the flash Rantarou saw too, that would have drawn him there. She's sure that he can put those pieces together. ]
🚨 V3 spoilers 🚨
So you mean... the one that fell off the shelf?
( letting his hand fall back to his side and returning his gaze to kaede, he blinks. suddenly the situation isn't quite so clear-cut anymore. )
Sure, it caught me by surprise, but it didn't kill me. If I'd been standing just a little closer it probably could have, though.
no subject
It didn't hit him? Kaede stares at him, her eyes wide in shock. ]
Huh? You... You didn't get hit by it? But it was laying right next to you, with blood all over it.
[ Kaede pauses, realizing she just told him what he looked like when he was dead. She should be more careful. ]
Sorry. You probably don't want to hear about that. [ She shakes her head, trying to clear up some of the confusion she feels. ] But that was the only one I had... If that didn't kill you...
[ Does that mean she didn't actually kill him? There's a lot of weight to that very idea, and it makes her head spin. If that's the case, then she was executed for nothing. ]
no subject
( kind of awkward, but realistically, it's important to know in a context like this. after all, even if the murder weapon may have been a shot put ball, clearly it wasn't her shot put ball.
because... he's certain that he saw it land in front of him after rolling off the shelf. she only had one, and it missed, but the belief in that plan having worked clearly indicates that he didn't make it out of the library after that; what he last remembers really was his time of death. with all of those facts drawn together, there are very few possibilities surrounding what may have happened. the most likely of which being... )
Akamatsu-san, did anybody else know about your plan?
no subject
No. I didn't want anyone to find out I killed the mastermind.
[ Who would want to be friends with a killer, after all? That's beside the point, though. ]
So there wasn't anyone who would've known about that trap. I was really careful to hide it, you know.
[ Kaede frowns, going over the sequences of events in her head. If she wasn't the one who did it, then who...? ]
There wasn't anyone down there when all of us found you...
[ And that timeframe was pretty narrow too. Hm. ]
no subject
( but if she didn't tell anybody, then how?
...
amami doubts they'll be able to discover that here, alone, between just the two of them. and it isn't that he's giving up on this either. it's just... the lunch hour is only an hour long; no matter how nice it would be to solve his own murder in under an hour, he's pretty sure that's not going to happen. besides, there are other important things that should be said on this topic. )
Ouma-kun... might be right. I was probably set up.
( like that, for one, as he folds his arms over his chest. )
no subject
You know... I agree with you. The mastermind probably saw you as a threat, so when they had a chance to get rid of you...
[ Where Kaede herself plays into that, she's not sure. Was she just a convenient sacrifice, or was she a target? Actually, now that she thinks about it— ]
The mastermind went against their own rules to punish me, even though Monokuma acted like the rules were super important to follow. There's no way this wasn't a set up.
no subject
Wait, you were punished? What about the first blood perk?
( KAEDE? KAEDE??? IT JUST KEEPS GETTING WORSE... you were supposed to get out of jail free! you had the card and everything!! )
no subject
I... I didn't confess. When I realized I didn't kill the mastermind, I decided I would try to draw them out in a trial.
[ She pauses, bringing one of her hands up to hold onto her arm and steady herself. ]
I couldn't manage to do it, so...
[ She got executed. ]
no subject
So they were able to take out two threats at once, huh. They must've been real happy about that.
( there's a momentary pause, and though he remains serious, some of the irritation in his demeanour eases slightly. )
Sorry, Akamatsu-san. I know I already apologized, but I just...
( he trails off there. he just... what? what should he have done?
the fact that there may not have been anything he could have done might just be the most frustrating part. )
no subject
It's not your fault, Amami-kun. If anyone should be apologizing, it's me. I'm the one who came up with that plan to kill the mastermind when I shouldn't have tried to do everything on my own.
[ But in that case... Maybe they were both at fault for trying to do things on their own. If they had teamed up—
There's no point in thinking about it now. ]
no subject
( he's quiet for a moment, taking in the words, but can hardly let it end on that note. )
No, it's not your fault either. The chances of me being successful, in hindsight, probably weren't very high.
( as much as it paints him to admit, with a short exhale. )
But it's thanks to you that everybody else didn't have to face punishment as well. If there hadn't been a set-up, I doubt the mastermind would have let everyone off scot-free once the time limit went up.
( and it wasn't even her fault that he died in the end, apparently. so what's to apologize for — being framed? he doesn't hold it against her; the two of them were no different in this situation. )
no subject
Kaede falls quiet, her gaze falling towards the ground. ]
You're... You're right. I just wish it hadn't been this way, I guess. I wish we could get a do-over or something.
[ But they can't. ]
