June Event

hello

You open your eyes.

And you scream.

Four long gashes tear your sleeve to ribbons and arm to searing pain, something sharp clamps down on your ankle and sinks into flesh and bone, down the hall another student dangles half a foot off the ground with their hair slowly separating from their scalp, and littered across the floor are bodies pooling blood and occasionally twitching— not in a last bid for life, but in the way strips of skin and muscle and fabric pull away from a person's limbs when several dozen invisible hungry imps have decided they don't want to be banished and would rather feast on the blood of their enemies if that's what it takes to survive.

For every instance of blood that touches the floor, the school pitches and transforms into a dilapidated version of itself, what npcs that were in the hall with you turning into shadow versions of themselves and taking hold of the fallen bodies to drag them to the auditorium. There, the empty room is pitch black. There, the threshold at the doorway crumbles and expands with each shadow that stands and feeds the void another sacrifice. In this school, in its darkness and its silence and its faceless students that cannot be touched, you may at least find some reprieve from the imps that do not exist, find fresh water flowing from the bathroom sinks, and scenes of normal school life playing out in the cracked mirrors that if you break even further you find that you return.

You open your eyes, and no time has passed. Something invisible tears open a student's throat, so close you can see their vocal cords bright white and vibrating as they scream. Blood splatters on the ground, and the school pitches and turns once again.

hi

For each fallen student, a new one transfers in to replace them. Between the student council election and the imp infestation, more and more you seem to be surrounded by unfamiliar faces. The contrast is stark between those veteran students with bandaged arms and a limp to their stride and long sleeves and pants despite the growing heat, and those students with bright and smiling faces, the ones who coo over the cats and share their lunches with anybody who looks hungry and sit in small groups outside by the wisteria tree to chat during breaks, ignorant of what keeps it fed.

With all the new transfer students, many teachers have decided to assign group projects for their classes: poster presentations on their favorite myth or legend, short skits portraying famous historical scenes, and, everybody say thank you Cain and Kelly, taking care of flour sack babies. Projects are by homeroom and can be done in groups of 2-4, because sometimes a family is a dad and a dad and a wine aunt and a dog. The projects are all due at the end of the month, and if you're able to keep your flour sack baby from being turned into a cake or torn apart by imps, you may notice that they start to feel... warm... after one week. At the end of the second week, they begin to make short, quiet noises— a gurgle, a breath, a whine. At the end of the third week, while you're cradling the sack in your arms, you swear it moves. At the end of the fourth week, well. The project is over. Maybe it'll hatch? Let me know if you make it.

can you hear me?

The veteran students don't seem very keen on working with transfer students who make excuses about not wanting to work outside of school, but newer students are more willing, eager to meet people and get to know them and learn about the school. They gravitate towards the bulletin board to check out the class ranks, new clubs, a new section on the board with several dozen slips of colored paper tacked onto it and a little container below containing blank slips and a pen so you can add your own wishes:
"I want to be normal. --XX, 1-A"
"I want to live. --XX, 2-B"
"I want my friends back. --XX, 3-D"
"I want life to go back to normal. --XX, 2-A"
"I want my brother back. --XX, 2-A"
"I want more power. --XX, 1-A"
"I want to be loved. --XX, 1-B"
"I want to fix the past. --XX, 2-A"
"I want to find my family. --XX, 3-B"
"I want to be loved. --XX, 2-A"
 "I want a normal life. --XX, 1-A"
"I want my brother back. --XX, 2-B"
"I want to see my family. --XX, 1-C"
"I want to die. --XX, 2-D"
"I want my friends back. --XX, 2-D"
"I want to fix the past. --XX, 3-D"
 "I want freedom. --XX, 1-D"
"I want to live. --XX, 1-C"
"LUNCH DATE WITH IZUMI SENA!!! --XX, 1-A"
"I want to be strong. --XX, 2-E"
 "I want freedom. --XX, 3-E"
"I want to live. --XX, 2-E"
"I want to die. --XX, 3-E"
"I want to remember. --XX, 3-C"
Wishes are meant to be granted, but... Some of the newer students make an attempt at being a little more realistic and add things like "I want the answers to next week's math exam" and "I want a pony" and do check the board occasionally, so it never hurts to leave a wish of your own.

That's certainly the thought as the month goes on and there are more and more wishes for the construction in the clock tower stairwell to hurry up and finish already, as the entire month of June, from 6AM to 6PM, six days a week, the sounds of drilling and hammering and screaming and sawing can be heard in the stairwell despite no construction workers being seen entering or exiting the school. The clock tower itself is inaccessible while the stairs are being taken down and replaced with a brand new elevator— veteran students are particularly grateful, because it's hard to climb stairs and go to class when your shin is splintered and a thin layer of bandage is the only thing keeping your guts from spilling out onto the floor.

In the evening after the npcs leave, characters are able to open the doors on the second and fourth floors to find... that nothing looks any different. On the first floor, however, a set of elevator doors has been installed right by the front doors, and while the button to open the doors don't work, they can be wrenched apart and entered, revealing a barren space with metal walls, a clock hung on the back wall that ticks backwards, and too many buttons on the panel by the double doors. Most buttons are white, numbered -6 to 27 though out of order and not all the numbers are there. Some are black, one is red, neither colors having symbols etched into them. None of the buttons work when pressed.

Not yet.

it'll be alright

Until then, the clock tower can be reached as normal up several flights of stairs, the room at the very top bright and sunny with clock faces in the glass on all four sides, floorboards stained copper red and the air thick and difficult to breathe. For some, it's still worth it for the view of the wisteria tree in perpetual bloom in the courtyard below, especially as the heat and humidity of summer approaches and with it comes clouds of gnats that have taken up residence in the courtyard, hovering over puddles of light pink water left over from watering the courtyard overnight. Classes are no longer held outdoors, as teachers find it impossible to speak without gnats entering their mouths at any given opportunity, and the heat inside the school becomes near unbearable towards the latter half of the month as there is no air conditioning and teachers hesitate to open their windows. The homeroom teachers in 1-B, 1-D, and 2-C made that mistake once, opening the windows facing the courtyard and the gnats had gotten in, little homing missiles to their favorite food: blood, sweat, and tears. But if you don't cry, sweat, or bleed and aren't afraid of the gnats squeezing their way through the mesh screen in the windows, it can be nice to sit by the window and hope a breeze comes your way.

Those in classes 3-A, 3-B, 2-C, 2-D, 2-E, and all of the first year classes can find that they're able to open the windows in classrooms 1-B, 1-D, and 2-C to enjoy the breeze, but find an invisible barrier blocking their way and preventing any part of them from reaching out into the open space. 3-A, 2-C, 2-D, 2-E, 1-B, 1-D, and 1-E are able to remove the screen and exit through those windows facing the courtyard, keeping in mind it is the 3rd and 4th floors and they will have to climb back up to reenter the school. 2-C, 1-B, and 1-D can go a step further and find that the front door to the school opens for them, except when they try to leave, they run into an invisible barrier, unable to take another step out the door. But they can stand there and take in the sight of the school gates in the near distance, of the forest just beyond, of the npc students slipping past them on their way to and from home. At this threshold it is chilly despite the heat that smothers the school in waves, the air is fresh, invigorating, and when the sun passes overhead you swear you can feel it staring.

OOC

✽ Sometimes you summon murder imps and you gotta get rid of them yourselves. The imps are invisible unless supernatural sight (eg Nene, Clamor) or form (eg Moriarty, Sherlock) is regained, or are seen through an adder stone (possessed by Arthur, Gundham), but can still be fought either way through physical or magical means, or banished with the proper materials. They will NOT be rampaging and attacking everybody all the time, so this prompt is avoidable if you'd rather not, but they will gravitate towards 1) students who are alone, and 2) areas where there is already bloodshed happening.
✽ For the flour sack group project, groups are by homeroom and can number between 2-4 students. You may also assume npc students are part of your group if you wish.
✽ Characters may notice that physically, an elevator can't make sense without demolishing the first floor locker area, and they will have to accept the fact that not everything will make sense, and that sometimes, Ori just does not want to redraw floorplans. The elevator will be functional starting next month, maybe.
✽ Only windows in classrooms 1-B, 1-D, and 2-C can be opened by characters in classes that have gained at least one class rank to date. Those classes that gained at least one class rank last month are able to exit out the windows facing the courtyard only. Those classes with 30 or more ranks are able to open the front door to the school but not exit through it. To anybody else watching them open the door, they will see that character turn into a shadow and go through the motions of opening the door without exiting, exactly how npc students appear when they enter and exit the school.

⛧ The Imp Problem

[Remember when Lucifer said he was a demon but that he couldn't switch forms last month? Yeah, that's no longer a thing, and there is currently a very angry demon prowling the hallways with an actual honest-to-hells whip in his hands literally doling out punishments to whatever imps he sees that are fucking around and finding out.

Sure, last month, he was fine with them — cute little pranksters, just doing what demons do! Though he did make an effort to stop some of the more dangerous pranks, for the most part, harmless things like water bottles being knocked over and math homework being eaten got to slide. Lucifer is absolutely biased to his own kind, after all.

But then the little bastards started to hurt people for real, started trying to rip throats out and slash tendons and spill blood, and that's where Lucifer draws the line. Yes, his moral complex is flimsy at best, but this is fucking ridiculous. He's also the one partially at fault for this nightmare situation, and so he's taking responsibility. Responsibility in the form of walking around with huge, feathered black wings extended high over his head in what is clearly meant to be an intimidation tactic, cracking his whip at anything that doesn't immediately back the fuck off when it sees him.

They get two warnings. The first warning is his presence, and if small-time demons like this don't get that they're in trouble, the second warning is the deft cracking of a whip that hits a non-lethal area on the imp in question. After that, if they don't scamper away — or if they're dumb enough to attack him — Lucifer is very, very quick to strike precisely at the most lethal areas he possibly can.

Somehow, through all of this, he manages to miss you entirely with his strikes, whether you just stumbled in on the scene of him fighting imps (or fighting the air, as it probably looks to most folks) or happened to be someone he was saving from certain death. Either way, it's clear to see that the Avatar of Pride is pissed off. In fact, "pissed off" may be a gross understatement.

All this senseless violence, and the only way to solve it is with more violence. Have his kind not long since outgrown this? No? For fuck's sake.]

⛧ The Voidtorium

[When he's not committing war crimes, Lucifer can be found in front of the auditorium void flexing his wings like he's curious about something. Is he about to do something fucking stupid? Yes, he absolutely is.

That stupid thing is lowering himself like he's about to pounce, shifting his wings on his back, and preparing to yeet himself into the auditorium void... Only to see you approaching and stop. The investigation is on pause for now.]

I believe the other realm is growing. [He makes vague motions to the creeping void.] I have a mind to explore it, if you'd like to come. I believe I could fly both of us through it safely.

[Why? For science. Also for morbid curiosity. If you want to get bridal carried by a large demon and flown through the void, now's your chance!]

⛧ *distressed bird noises*

[As much as Lucifer is trying to put the events of the 31st out of his head, it all gets dredged back up at once when he gets that envelope in his locker. Yes, he's absolutely still upset about Madison, not that he's trying to let onto that. He doesn't get sad (he absolutely gets sad) and he doesn't get sentimental or make attachments (he absolutely does these things). He's the Avatar of Pride. He's the Avatar of Pride and he's not upset and he's not sad about Madison and he's not in grief over his siblings who are all he has left—

And because he's Not Sad and he's Not Distraught and he's Not Feeling Emotions, Thanks, he can be found in 3-C staring down at the bloody envelope with one hand half-obscuring his face.

(They're fine, he tells himself. They have to be. How could anyone bring harm to the Devildom's most powerful demons?)

(Surely this has to be a prank, says his anxiety, and shouldn't he be used to those by now?)

Surprisingly, should you choose to swing by, he doesn't notice you. He's usually so attentive, though, how could he not hear the door opening?]

⛧ Wildcard

CLOSED to Clamor

[These imps have got to fucking stop.

Yes, this is his fault. He knows it's his fault, he doesn't want a reminder, he knows. (He maintains that teaching those cultists to summon will prevent them from fucking up in the future, with regards to the whole "how to summon safely" and not "help we demon'ed the whole school and people are getting fucked up because of it".) But he's no longer tolerating the shit going on here, and so—

CRACK

—so that means poor Clamor gets the pleasant surprise of a whip whizzing by his head to save his eyes from being torn out by an imp. There are more than just the one, of course, and now Lucifer's gone and drawn aggro on the other ones. Surely this will end well?]

Get behind me, and yell if something comes at you.

[Lucifer is so happy to assume everyone but him is absolutely defenseless.]

Alternatively, jab your fingers into their eye sockets if they come for you. If you get deep enough, you'll puncture the brain and they'll die.

[THANKS??]

[Being able to see the little demons running around has been a mixed blessing. It did mean that, for awhile, he was successfully shooing them off... until they started getting violent, and he started getting cocky, and the next thing he knew they were trying to eat his face.

But anyway, Lucifer's assumptions are correct today because Clamor has a CP score of -1. He appreciates the help, even if the advice that follows is a bit... morbid... he'll just back up out of imp-murder range for now, thanks.]

They seem a lot feistier than they were last month... [has he seen anyone get murdered right in front of him yet? uh. let's say no, May was bad enough already.] Where do these things keep coming from?

[also the wings are new? and the horns?? Someone's looking more demonic today... he finds he doesn't mind it, though, since it's Lucifer. but let's maybe save that topic for when they're not being attacked by tiny invisible demons.]
carpevinum: (z141.)

[personal profile] carpevinum 2021-06-07 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
They are. [Crack.] I have no idea what's got them so riled up, but I've had enough.

[One of the angry little fuckers manages to get within melee range, and Lucifer quite literally decks it out of the air. It's been a long time since he's gotten into a physical fight with anything at all, and he sort of wishes he had a sword or something like he used to. Ah, the bygone days of being an angel and—

quick sidestep to avoid an imp latching onto his face

—and having a sword imbued with the magic to kill these motherfuckers outright. He doesn't miss it, but it would be a little less effort. Just touch the consecrated holy weapon and burn, dammit.]

To answer your question— [looks back at Clamor, realises he's about to get his ankle bitten, takes the little dude out with inhuman precision] —they originally came from those cultists, though I don't think they're summoning more of them. Actually, I told them how to unsummon low-ranking demons like this, and then watched them try to unsummon...

...oh, what's his name. Kokichi?

[There are several people in this school that probably wish it worked. Lucifer is genuinely completely indifferent.]

On your left.

[CRACK.

Problem solved?

They're not really out of the woods yet. Hells, he didn't think there were this many, though. He's been at this all day.]

Unless those fools forgot to close the circle after summoning the first... Demon King knows how many, there shouldn't be more showing up. Granted, those that respected my authority the first time I warned them got to live, and if they've forsaken that chance...

[He leaves that note there, because Clamor can probably figure out what he means. Do not challenge the authority of a man whose only trait is the fact that he loves exerting it over others.]
sunstead: (010)

[personal profile] sunstead 2021-06-09 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
[haha wow Lucifer is also kind of terrifying today... but, well, that's not really fair, is it? Noah can get pretty scary when he's fighting, too. Clamor just... tries to keep out of the way. Leave the fighting to the fighters. A few times one of the imps manage to get a bit too close for comfort, but it helps that he can actually see them, and Lucifer is quick to intervene when he gives a shout... and if he ends up backing up enough that he's practically buried between Lucifer's wings, well. It's not the worst place he could be.

Still, he's a bit surprised by how much Lucifer actually knows about this situation. Of course it's because of that suspicious cult—]

What if this was their plan all along?! Someone's going to get killed if this keeps up! [and he sure as hell doesn't trust cultists to handle this problem anyway, even if they're not actively trying to murder people...]

Summoning magic isn't my specialty, but maybe I can help? I can at least see these things, anyway. If it's the cult that summoned them, we should start there before worrying about any unsummoning rituals.
carpevinum: (z129.)

[personal profile] carpevinum 2021-06-13 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
I'm almost certain someone has been killed already, which is why— [he ducks under an imp, snatches out it out of the air by its tiny wing, and then quite literally yeets it into a wall,] —I'm dealing with the problem.

[But, see, those cultists are his darling mortals and he's going to defend them, so while he's killing everything that comes near himself and Clamor (the ones that come near him get a little more mercy such as being flung into walls; Clamor gets a whip whizzing past him every 3 seconds or so, or big wings casting shadows over him to defend him from attacks), he makes sure to make it clear whose fault this really is. Because, if one thing is true about the Avatar of Pride, it's that he's not about to lie about things that are his fault because that goes against everything he stands for. You know. Honesty, integrity, being better than everyone else because he can choke out an apology...

Ahem.]

Admittedly, when I taught them how to summon, I didn't realise they'd get themselves into this much trouble. [Quick carry on talking,] They're fairly innocent, curious kids, and I doubt they did this with malicious intent.

[However, it is worth investigating, isn't it? Hm.]

I would appreciate the help. We should pay those kids a visit... Duck.

[And there goes the whip again. Lucifer sure is calm in the face of certain death.]

Imp problems

[personal profile] improbablenotimpossible 2021-06-06 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Lucifer wasn't the only one who had enough. He was fine letting the little pranksters be, even if he couldn't see them a month ago, but now that they're attacking people?

No can do.

An imp goes flying, crashing into a wall and sliding into a waste basket. The Detective lowers his leg, pivoting when he heard the sharp crack of a whip.]

There you are, I figured you would be cracking down on them.
carpevinum: (z142.)

[personal profile] carpevinum 2021-06-06 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh? The kicks are intriguing. Lucifer files that away for later, though; this really isn't the time to sit here observing how Sherlock fights.]

I've had enough of this. People are already dying left and right here, and I won't stand for lesser demons besmirching the name of demonkind by making it worse.

[They've got a long way to go until peace between the three worlds is even possible, but this is still Lucifer's core philosophy nowadays.

Also, he's physically incapable of admitting that he cares for anyone here, see, so he skips that part and swiftly takes out an imp that thought to attack Sherlock from behind. And of course, because he's a showoff, he has to make conversation while fighting.]

Good to know that you can see them.
improbablenotimpossible: (A bloody mess)

[personal profile] improbablenotimpossible 2021-06-06 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[His lips quirked, being reminded a little bit of some of the more proud Servants he is acquainted with.]

If they simply stuck to childish pranks, it wouldn't been an issue.

[However he suspects from Lucifer's reaction the school might have done something to the imps. As he pivots on his heel when sensing something approaching the loud crack alerted to him that the would be backbiter had been handily taken care of, turning his focus to another, weaving to the side and axe kicking it into the floor, pinning it in place by stomping on it]

Thank you - and well, I only recently regained some of my abilities as a Heroic Spirit, and just in time.
carpevinum: (z150.)

[personal profile] carpevinum 2021-06-08 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Those kicks of yours are quite impressive.

["Just in time" indeed, because Lucifer has spent the better part of the day defending people who can't see them from certain death. Luckily for the two of them, their numbers are thinning rapidly. The imps drop left and right, either due to running away out of cowardice (and Lucifer swears if they run off to harass someone else he will find them) or because they're, well, dead due to being whipped and axe-kicked.

It takes a bit until the battle ends and they're given a moment of peace, at which point Lucifer lowers those fanned-out wings of his and begins winding the whip back up. Shooting Sherlock an amused smirk, he remarks,]

I genuinely wasn't aware you could fight so well.
improbablenotimpossible: (Default)

[personal profile] improbablenotimpossible 2021-06-08 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you -

[He inclines his head, looking over the mess as he slowly slides back into a more natural stance]

I am usually not a combatant, however as a Detective I have to learn to defend myself when I get too close to the answer for someone's liking.
carpevinum: (z121.)

[personal profile] carpevinum 2021-06-10 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Naturally. I've come to understand that many detectives are often targeted for assassinations for finding too much out.

[Morbid, thanks.]

Tell me, have you ever found yourself in such a situation? I'm curious.
improbablenotimpossible: (A smoke break)

[personal profile] improbablenotimpossible 2021-06-10 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
More times than I could count, both Alive and as a Spirit.

[He takes a glance around, the Imps don't seem inclined to return any time soon]

From poisons to even magical attacks, as you correctly stated - many will kill to keep their secrets. Or I have to counter assassination attempts on my clients.
carpevinum: (z125.)

[personal profile] carpevinum 2021-06-15 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I see.

[It's an interested "I see", not flat nor dismissive like he tends to be. The one run-in Lucifer had with any sort of detective work in recent years was because Mammon got accused of murder... that was a fun little trip to London.]

Ah, I apologise if this topic is heavy. My younger brother is slightly obsessed with true crime and detective stories, and I find myself having a similar — if less-obsessive — love for such tales myself. Countering assassination attempts, though... what a nightmare.

[Save for the occasional witch with a vendetta (and Solomon pestering him for a pact), the Devildom these days is relatively peaceful, meaning he doesn't have to deal with much violence these days unless he's inflicting it upon others himself.]
improbablenotimpossible: (Default)

[personal profile] improbablenotimpossible 2021-06-16 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
[He shook his head, lips tugging faintly]

It's something I have gotten used to, there's even a bit of a challenge to countering them.

[A bit of a front, Moriarty's attempts to deter him had spooked him quite badly - and the consequences of failing does weigh high. He starts walking]

Let's go somewhere a little more pleasant - so which one of your brothers is the Mystery fan?
carpevinum: (z122.)

[personal profile] carpevinum 2021-06-18 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yes, surely there's somewhere more pleasant to talk than what lingers of a "battlefield". Perhaps other imps lingering nearby will be scared off by their combined presence, too. Lucifer falls into step besides Sherlock, a light smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.]

The fourth eldest of us, Satan. He has a particular love of both cats and tales of detectives. He's genuinely quiet knowledgeable on the latter topic, though I once lost him for an entire day due to some marathon of his favourite true crime series on TV.

Uh.

[ Let me honest for the record that Crona is the worst person to wander in here, knowing no lore of the school at this point beyond 1). Hope is important, maybe. 2). Body doubles do exist.

They're so shocked by everything going on right now, the strange school, the bloody carnage that tipped them into this quiet creaking void so they just stand looking at Lucifer blankly for a second. They lack even the words to complain about this.
]

Will that fix things? [They'd take any sort of answer right now. Maybe a hug. ] Is this what's causing everything?
carpevinum: (z128.)

[personal profile] carpevinum 2021-06-06 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[They look young to Lucifer's eyes, but then again, Lucifer is extremely old. All y'all look young to him. Crona has a strange aura about them, something he makes note to ask about later. Call it demonic senses (because that's literally what it is).]

To be honest, I'm not sure. That's what I'd like to find out.

[Those wings of his flex just a bit, a feather falling to the floor as he does so. He regards Crona with curious red eyes, crossing his arms. He doesn't think he's seen them before. Perhaps introductions are in order before investigating.]

My name is Lucifer, by the way.
radnarok: (*3*)

[personal profile] radnarok 2021-06-07 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
[ They're something of a demon themselves :) Or someone's attempt at creating one.

They stare at his wings longingly. They had wings once...but it was mostly just Ragnorok helping them. Not something they could do alone.
]

I can help. [ They try to square their shoulders and stand up straight. ] You aren't supposed to kill people without a reason...or put voids in schools. Maka wouldn't like if that happened to her...So I won't either.
carpevinum: (z126.)

[personal profile] carpevinum 2021-06-07 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[Is Maka another student here?]

I agree with you there. [Says Lucifer of all people, and while he wasn't known for just slaughtering people en masse, he certainly used to kill in the past. Often, at that.] If someone had opened a void at the school I'm on the faculty of, I'd hang them from the ceiling by their ankles.

[Ahem.

Lucifer offers a hand out to Crona. If they're going in, they're doing it via the air, because Lucifer's not dumb enough to step into unknown territory with his feet. He's dumb enough to go in, but not dumb enough to physically touch the floor.]

Let us be off, then. Sitting around isn't doing us any good.
radnarok: (sweet child)

adventure! adventure!

[ No they're just...attached. ]

Ah...Don't hang me by my ankles! All my blood would rush up into my face because I'd be upside down and I really couldn't deal with going gray like that! [Despite the cringing complaint, they do actually accept his hand with only mild hesitation. Nice to meet you, sir. Crona is just like this. ]

Has this void always been here?

[No, no, Crona, not you! Others, though...]

Not to worry. Unless for some reason you're responsible for this, which I doubt you are, I won't harm you. And... as far as I'm aware, it hasn't been. My memory of this place doesn't go that far back, but I believe this is a... [Lucifer makes a face, disgruntled,] ...new feature to our lovely school.

[Crona takes Lucifer's hand and Lucifer goes a step further, pulling on it and then scooping Crona into a bridal carry, which is probably the safest way for them both to get through the void in one piece. This kid weighs literally nothing, damn.

It's difficult but not impossible to get up off the ground when he's indoors, and it takes a solid minute of Lucifer beating his wings until they're airborne and shooting off into the depths of the void-torium, which...]

Ah. Those must be the infamous shadow-people everyone kept going on about.

[Is it him, or is the auditorium, er, also falling apart? That bodes well. The shadows are shuffling about below them, but Lucifer doesn't exactly go down there, not yet.]

From what I recall, not only does time slow down within this space, but the shadows shouldn't attack us as long as we don't try attacking them and as long as we aren't severely injured.

I don't think so? [ LIST YOUR CRITERIA. IN DETAIL. PLEASE. ]

[They let out a bit of a yelp with Lucifer grabs them but at least they don't wiggle enough to get dropped into the void. ] Shadow people? H-huh? [ They peak over his shoulder. ] Wah...

If only I had my blood...I could hit them from up here and then we wouldn't have to deal with it. [ They cock their head downward, gripping Lucifers shoulder with a single white knuckled hand. ] Do they do anything? When we aren't here?

[Lucifer flies a bit lower, shaking his head. He doesn't know for himself; he's only heard tales. Tales which he tells, of course.]

The shadows are apparently those of students who go to school here. That seems to be the working theory, anyway. [Beat.] According to Moriarty, attacking them gets one in trouble, so you using your... blood magic, I presume, would only get us killed. Best not to disturb them. He had mentioned last month that leaving the shadows alone means they'll leave us alone in kind.

[But there's also the small issue of...]

There was an argument at the time of the meeting, [Lucifer keeps descending lower, finding nothing but empty void as he talks,] and the discussion at hand was about how the shadows come after people who are near death. So, to reiterate... don't fight them, and don't find yourself dying within this space.

[And maybe don't come in here without someone to fly you around. Lucifer is now searching for a wall within this space, but he can't even find the floor even though he's descended long past where the auditorium floor should be. It would be trivial to throw someone into this space and have them fall for eternity, dying slowly of dehydration...

Crona doesn't seem like a killer, but Lucifer still doesn't share that. No one needs any ideas.]

Weird. So you don't have a shadow if you die? Maybe they don't have souls, if they've only got shadows. Or something. [They tap their chin as they consider. ] But! I won't attack them, sir! I'm even better at not attacking instead of attacking!

[The flying is going on so long, Crona's stopped being freaked out as much and started getting bored. They keep peeking over Lucifers wings. ]

The school doesn't go this deep, hm hm. So weird haha. Do you think it goes down forever? Forever is kind of hard to deal with.
