lets go in the garden, you'll find something waiting (semi-closed to the gardening club!)

WHAT: Time for the Gardening Club's first meeting!
WHEN: Early June, just after school
WHERE: Room 3-E
WARNINGS: ... None. Yet. It's Yogen, we'll see.

i. INTEREST CHECK!

( at some point during the first week of june, you might find nene at the bulletin board, putting up a new flyer: an advertisement for a potential gardening club! the flyer itself has a series of lines so that people can note down their names to show their own interest, but since you seem to have caught nene- or perhaps another person also interested- there, you can ask her anything right there! despite the circles under her eyes, she smiles brightly when approached. )

Are you interested in gardening?

ii. a: the first meeting!

( a few days later- wow, that sheet filled up fast!- and nene has happily let everyone who signed up- or perhaps were signed up against their will- to meet after school in room 3-E. at some point you'll see her trying to lug around a bunch of equipment to set up... or maybe you'll get there by the time everything's been set up. 3-E has a new shelf installed, and on series of desks pushed together is a few stacks of clay pots, planters, tools, and a bunch of seed packets. left on the ground is sacks of soil and meal. to the side, however, is a little egg carton planter that nene is tending to herself, given that the flowers have began sprouting over the course of may. )

Hi! Welcome to the first meeting of the gardening club! Not everyone has experience, so if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! If I can't help, I'm sure someone with more experience can!

So, we've got a lot to work with... which I think is really fun, because it gives everyone an opportunity to do something different!

( she's so excited, guys. as she starts setting things out for everyone, it should be clear to see the inventory:

10 Standard Clay Pots - 1 for each Club Member
5 small multi-plot planters
12 packs of seeds ( American Coneflower, Chamomile, Mint, Daffodil, Lavender, Sage, Strawberries, Cosmos, Basil, Rosemary, Anemones, Jade Plant )
3 Hand Tool sets ( trowel, transplanter, cultivator and weeder )

and she's also made a set of labels for everything with toothpicks, paper and a bunch of markers for everyone to make their own. all in all, a varied and... oddly useful haul? )

ii. b: getting to work

( after helping people get started, nene has turned most of her attention to the egg carton planter. if you pay attention, you can see her carefully cutting the cardboard and transferring different sprouts into a planter. though she seems to be leaving the little labels she's made blank. huh! what's up with that? )

iii. the mingle

( not an actual prompt, just have fun and get to know your new fellow clubmates! some folks might need help getting started, or maybe you recognize some of the seeds! the bloodmeal doesn't activate the void school, thankfully. have fun, don't be a dick, love you all. )

[god she really needed something like this right now. the health of this lavender plant she's tending is now directly related to her self-worth as a human being, it's fine.

and if you're next to her while she's planting this, well, now you have the full-force of a sentimental child talking at you.]

Back home, all of us kids work on the town garden together. It took a really long time for the first stuff to grow, and it was a lot of hard work... But, I can't remember the last time my uncle had to buy sports candy at the store. We grow everything ourselves. I hope we can do that here, if we have to...

[These plants are ostensibly normal compared to what's in the Devildom, which Lucifer will share if you talk to him for longer than five minutes. Sometimes, they have normal plants that get spells cast on them, which Lucifer might also share with you — a story about the time Satan got a cursed plant from a disgruntled girl who he once rejected, and how said cursed plant attempted to kill him over time. That was funny.

Or, if you ask really nicely, he'll share the time he bought expensive-ass roses worth 100 million grimm and gave them to the Prince of Hell himself as a birthday gift, and how one such rose was turned into the fanciest tea he's ever had by the Prince's butler.

Basically, Lucifer's 500 old man stories aside, he has an interest in plants. He helped to maintain the gardens out in the front yard of his house, after all, and so he knows a thing or two. He hasn't yet planted the daffodil seeds next to him, though, because he's busy painting his clay pot. Yes, he did steal paints from the art room for this. Fuck them kids, Lucifer does what he wants.

Which sadly includes probably telling you one or all of the aforementioned stories like a grandpa and also might include explaining that one time a carnivorous plant tried to eat Mammon, good times. Please indulge your wealthy demon ~~grandpa~~ father by listening to him talk, he's just an old man.]

ii. a: the first meeting!

[Crona's hand instantly shoots up from where they've been anxiously sitting at a random desk when Nene asks about questions. ] Yashiro-san! Er-What if the plants die? If our plants die do we get kicked out of the club?

[ They've never taken care of anything in their life and only said yes to this in a panicked haze. They're practically green with stress. ]

Gardening~!

[ A bit later after everyone has been handed out their pots, Crona looks a bit calmer. They're carefully pushing down the dirt in their pot with a finger, trying to find the perfect way to deposit their seeds. ]

Hm. Hm. I've never had a garden before. But flowers always looked really nice when I saw them. I don't really know the names though. Do you know what they mean?

Wow. That sounds amazing. [ They mean it! ] Do you think it will take us a long time now? I'd like to eat something fresh soon. [ Life cannot be sustained on marshmallow candy alone...this they have learned. And people here are weird about eating the meat. ]

[ They are both spellbound, and also hiding behind their hands when he talks about plants eating people. No! No! Say it isn't so. Plants are one of the few cute good things in the world, okay? Don't shatter their fragile innocence!! ]

Did Mammon-san grow that plant... [ They look down at the seeds with wide eyes, even as their hand reaches out to try and snag one of the jars of paint. They want to make their pot colorful too. Share you old man. ] Afe...what do you do if a plant tries to attack you? How do you know which ones are good?

( nene shakes her head, before smiling in what she hopes is a reassuring manner. )

Of course not. We'll all do our best to keep all the plants healthy and thriving, but if something happens, we can always try again.

( everything she has does seem pretty hardy... what would be a good beginner plant? )

It depends! On what the plant is, of course; everybody grows at their own speed. This little guy [pats the soil] should start sprouting in a few weeks, and, if I don't water it too much, and I can find a spot for it when it outgrows the pot... it'll be a grown-up in about half a year.

What I'd really like is an apple tree. [sighs] We have so many apple trees back home, but those took years and years to grow like they do... I could stand under one, and he'd hit it out of the tree and right into my hands. That's my favorite stunt.

iii. the mingle

[ Let's face it... Yuzu hasn't had a good time here so far. She's been here for less than a month and she already wants out... not that she expects to actually get something convenient like that anytime soon.

Still, the people here were nice... so it was a good distraction from this apparently murder-filled place that she's found herself in. She's always been interested in gardening, she's just never really tried it because of how she focused on Dueling instead. Of course, now that that's not really an option... she may as well learn, right?

Unfortunately, being a reincarnation that represents flowers doesn't mean an automatic green thumb. Right now, she's looking a little lost, being pretty fixated on the seeds but... not really sure where to go from there.

[Lucifer shares paint! There's no red because the art room hasn't had proper red paint in months, but there's everything else.]

No, luckily, Mammon didn't grow it. I believe it was wild. Carnivorous plants of that variety usually don't grow in the human world, though I distinctly recall that one having massive teeth and being twice my size, [and Lucifer is not a small man,] so that's a good indicator as to if it's dangerous or not. As far as I know, in the human world, carnivorous plants don't "attack" like that, nor do they get quite so ridiculously large or violent.

[But also he can't account for other worlds. He can only account for what his worlds are like. Plural, because before coming here all he knew was that there were three worlds (or three realms, more like) and now he's meeting people who are uh, not... from any of those three. Wow, multiverse theory.]

There is a variety of carnivorous plants that don't have teeth called pitcher plants. They feed on insects who make the mistake of falling into them. They're too little to harm you. There's also the venus fly trap, which looks as though it has teeth, but again, they're far too small to do anything to you and consume bugs. I rather like the latter variety for pest control reasons.

O-oh...Thank goodness. [ They slump back into their chair. ]

I really don't want to kill a plant. They're nice.

They are! ... Hmm... if you're worried, we can start you out with the jade plant! They're notorious for being hard to kill. And they're really cute!

( of course, with the size of the pots, they'll probably need a couple seeds so as to ensure the pot gets properly utilized... a bundle of jade plants... )

[Add...... is not entirely sure why he's here. He did not sign up for this?? It's Komaeda's fault so I guess Komaeda dragged him here and then left, the bastard. He's standing in his own little corner for all of Nene's introduction, scowling with mild irritation as he debates whether he should just leave now or take his annoyance out on everyone else for this first...

except then he notices Turing is also here, so. maybe he can tolerate this club for a little while if it means observing the cool robot some more. hmmm.

He doesn't look enthused to be here, but at least he's sticking around? Maybe... he's just shy??]

[iii]

[Despite his initial disinterest, Add does end up filling a little pot for himself. What's he growing in it? Wouldn't you like to know, huh.

He's surprisingly diligent in caring for his little seed, stopping by the club room frequently throughout the week to check up on it. He doesn't stick around to chat, though, and perhaps it's not a coincidence that tends to show up when the fewest number of people are around. But maybe....... he's just shy??????]

[ Oh, well there's no need for her to fear a demon, especially when her best friend back home was apparently one of four reincarnations of a guy who turned himself into a demonic dragon person...

Basically, she's fine... totally. ]

Oh, um... not really, I'm just new to this whole thing in general... I'm not sure what to do first.

[ She's a little embarassed, to be honest... ]

( It's a good selection; he's particularly excited to see the herbs, peering at the rosemary seeds and then the lavender... He'll have to put in for mugwort at some point, or some good old ginger and ginseng. Regardless, even if it hadn't been Nene recruiting he would've joined - it's the icing on the cake that she is here, not to mention the other friendly faces. )

「a. planning」

( It's important to go into gardening with a plan... and even if they don't have the sprawling garden area offered to them that Ensemble Square does, it's still important!!! So Natsume's sketching in his notebook a little layout for pots and planters...

but to do this accurately, he kind of needs to know what everyone's thinking about planting, so don't mind him peeking over your character's shoulder and marking something down; he's not even being sneaky about it.

Ideally, they'd group similar plants together or make it make some sort of sense so it'd be quick to find what they want, putting labels aside. That's pretty much all.

He'll also be asking when people are available to come check on the plants and water them, get a nice little schedule going so it isn't always on just one person and it also isn't just "whenever the club meets". )

「b. planting」

( That done, he's going to actually... plant things... The flowers are nice, but the only one he even thinks about planting and doing so are the cosmoses; he takes one of the multi-pot planters and sows herbs otherwise.

The dirt beneath his fingernails is kind of awful, but nice. He didn't realize how much he missed soil until now. ...He's going to just be poking holes in his soil as an excuse to feel it, but as soon as he catches someone looking— )

I'm making holes for my SEEDS.

( :T even though he already planted what he wanted, yes, shut up. )

( don't mind nene just peaking over your shoulder, natsume! because we need the mental image of her dangling off him or just casually inserting herself under his arm to look, you're welcome. but she takes this seriously too- if they had a plot for vegetables, she'd be even more invested in that than even natsume. )

I have some mystery seeds that were given to me a month ago- ( YOU. YOU GONNA EXPLAIN, NENE? ) -so I'm not sure how big they're going to get... so it might be better to allow them room to grow.

Oh- hi!! Add... right? ( she's pretty sure that was the name on the sign up sheet. she hopes she didn't just spook him though, like... what if he's super shy.... ) It looks like your pot's doing really well. I hope it sprouts soon!

( he makes room for her regardless, whether it's lifting his arm or leaning down more so she can see better over his shoulder, he can work with her.

at mystery seeds, though, he cocks his head quizzically and looks at her... returns to his notes to erase something and draw a few circles with lamb faces in them. nene's corner. )

Who did you get them FROM? And do they have any noteable characterisTICS, or do they appear to be ordinary SEEDS?

( she loves and appreciates you so much natsume. at his question, however, she speaks softly... ghost stuff. surely he understands. )

I got them from the gardener- he arrives at night, but not everyone can see him. He told me to call him Kazuki... and to make the temporary planter I started with, but when I was doing that, he left the seeds and vanished.

( she gestures to a little box- it's a cute little egg carton planter, with four spots for each variety of seed. but it won't last forever. while she's not aware of what they are, maybe natsume will recognize them as pacific bleeding hearts, foxgloves, and pheasant's eyes... or maybe not. it's only been a month, after all. ... however, she's right about them needing space- hopefully once they unlock outside, they can have more room for these big boys! )

I don't think they're... abnormal, but I don't recognize them.

One of those is foxGLOVE, and the other is pheasant's EYE.

( but the third is a mystery, and he looks closely at it before shaking his head. )

I'd be careful handling any of them THOUGH. Foxglove is toxic to humans -- skin irriTANT, though I can't imagine anything good comes out of ingesting it eiTHER... Pheasant's eye is used in herbal mediCINE, but in high enough doSAGES, even the best medicine turns into a poiSON.

( and the third..... well, it could go either way, so. )

I've heard of Kazuki-san recentLY, though I haven't seen him mySELF... The little viper - Kawai-chan - told me a little about HIM. ( hmm. nene could see him because she has spirit sight, and both of them could hear him... ) I wonder why he gave you SEEDS. An interest in gardening aSIDE, it's a rather odd gift, wouldn't you SAY?

( nene nods carefully, though... ... with the wisteria, and now this... she had to be careful with who she gave access to the plants she was growing. she wants to trust others, but...

I'll see if I can get gloves to handle it with, once it's growing more. But those are kind of tall, right? ... Man, I hope these planters can handle it!

( ah... were seeds an unusual gift from a gardener? or was it that they were potentially dangerous plants? she hadn't even thought of it. ... she might have been too excited, actually. )

I didn't really think about it. We were talking about the wisteria tree, and things to plant in the future...

[She only spooks him a little, clutching the flower pot to his chest protectively as he shoots a glare over his shoulder. But since it is only her, he sighs and relaxes into "mild irritation" a moment later. This kid is way too bubbly to be any kind of threat.]

You're... the club leader? [has he forgotten her name, or is he pretending he did just to be a dick? could go either way.] Of course it's doing well. I know what I'm doing.

( unaware of any possible attempts to be a dick, nene nods cheerfully. )

Mhm! Nene Yashiro, club president! Nice to formally meet you. ( since he didn't really approach or anything during the initial meeting... ) If your sprouts need anything, the meal is under the shelf, annnnd we have to ask the science club to make any sort of fertilizers or stuff, since we can't go in their ourselves.

Yeah, sure, whatever. [He shrugs, putting his pot back on the windowsill and making sure it has the best position for optimal sunlight. If he has to shove someone else's pot out of the way to achieve this, too bad for them—his spot now.]

Fertilizer won't be an issue for long, since I'll be getting into the science club myself... but compost should work just fine for now. Plants like these aren't that difficult to care for.

I hope we aren't trapped here that LONG, to be hoNEST, but it's a nice feeLING.

( he's with you, stephanie... surprisingly, he is. he makes note in his notebook (little bunny - lavender) and, glancing around, decides he can take a break and sit down with her. )
